Amazing lodge for everyone who is looking for a tranqulil and quiet place. I travelled alone and found exactly what I was looking for. The staff was really exceptional - cook "Tiger" asked my everyday what I would like to eat. The small size of the lodge allows for a lot of extra service and added individual value for the customer. Margaret is the good soul and always there for any customers' wishes. I stayed a week and was really sad when I had to feave. The staff had already become family. Every day, I was picked up for amazing safari drives and other tours. The room was clean, lovely furnished with a comfy bed and all the heart desires. Book Katekani if you want a great time!
Absolutely nothing to criticize!

My wife and I visited Viva Safaris as part of our honeymoon and we opted for the 3 night / 4 day safari.
We thought it was perfect in every way. The ride from Johannesburg to the Kruger National park area was quite long but well organised. The accommodation was excellent and the food was fabulous.
But as with a lot of things, the people made it. The accommodation staff and the safari guides were fantastic (big shout to Smiley) and we were lucky enough to see the Big Five which made a great experience into an incredible one. Highly recommend Viva Safaris

How spoilt was I for 4 nights! I enjoyed 3 home cooked meals everyday which were amazing. Tiger, our personal chef catered to everyone's individual dietary needs and were prepared and presented worthy of any fine restaurant. The unique 'tents' came with all mod cons and private plunge pool. The rooms were serviced daily and even included a coffee machine.

The highlight each night after dinner was the timetable delivered personally to each guest including times and activities. Everything went to plan and everything was included except for drinks.

The camp wasn't very busy when I visited so you got to share your days adventures with other guests in the lounge upon everyone's return.

I was sad to leave and would return if I get the opportunity to get to that part of the world again.

Mama T and her kitchen crew were terrific, very friendly and helpful! She even cooked me another egg when I indicated I didn’t want peppers and onions in the omelette. The tents were huge and really decked out, with a great view of the forest from the small sitting pool outside. Only concern is the floor of the indoor shower is extremely slippery when wet and the slope to the drain makes it difficult to stand. Please consider a bath mat or treads under the shower head.

This option with Viva Safaris is a must do. The rooms are large, peaceful, spacious and very comfortable. The private pool, plus inside and outside showers were nice features. The location for meals was comfortable and allowed all guests to mix and share their daily safari stories. This lodge was personal, extremely comfortable, peaceful and relaxing. All meals were delicious and super fresh. Charl and his stories and experiences made the stay even better. All guest really appreciated his service, humour and knowledge. Highly recommend and ensure to maximise your stay with the 6 day tour.

Viva Safaris were great, well organised and caring. It was an intense 5 night / 6 day safari where Viva were focussed on maximising every opportunity to share all the beautiful animals in their homes. We loved the scenery, the local people and those who guided us in the safaris. We’d certainly recommend paying the small uplift to stay at the tented lodges. The hospitality from Margaret and Jane was personal and thoughtful, they cared about us and even undertook to bake a gluten free cake for my husband, we were certainly well fed with tasty home cooking.

Hi Arlene Thanks for an EXCEPTIONAL review. We are pleased that you enjoyed the action-filled program and that you appreciated our staff. Viva tries to give our guests the very best value for money safaris to Kruger Park. I agree that Katekani Tented Lodge is well worth the additional costs - it has a very special feel about it. Was so relieved to begin travelling again after COVID and when a last minute work opportunity came up i jumped on it and added some holidays afterwards. This meant last minute booking whatever i could and luck must have been on my side when i booked with Viva Safaris and 4 nights at Katekani tented lodge.
I cannot think of one thing that took away from my stay, the tents are luxury and far exceeded my expectations! It was so peaceful a quiet and i felt so relaxed and at home there, watching monkeys playing the trees from my lounger on my deck next to the plunge pool, or listening to the sounds of the African bush at night and seeing leopard and hyena footprints in the sand in the mornings as i walked through the beautiful paths to breakfast. The staff were amazing and always up for a chat or to just leave you to your quiet reflection. Food was also 5 star. Viva Safaris were a class above, excellent guides who loved interacting and sharing their vast knowledge, everything ran smoothly which after 2 years of little to no tourists was a clear sign they knew their stuff...got to see 4 of the Big 5!
Cant wait to come back.

Hi Tegan Thanks for a superlative review - certainly not your average one !!! We are thrilled to know that you so enjoyed your experience at Katekani after the Covid-induced delay. It is great to know that the accommodation exceeded your expectations - "peaceful", "quiet" and "relaxed" are evidence of your enjoyment of the surroundings. It is clear that you loved the wild aspects of Kateani - finding leopard and hyena spoor on the path from your unit to the Boma is exciting! Thank you for commending our staff and food. Viva Safaris is honoured to be classified as " a class above" and we are pleased that you noted we are running smoothly again. You are most welcome to visit again - the sooner, the better! Be well

I had a wonderful stay at Katekani lodge! I stayed for 4 nights as part of a 6 day Viva Safaris experience and I am super-happy with my choice of accommodation. The "tents" are huge and I really appreciated the air con as it was really hot. Also, the private pool was great for cooling after long safari drives. However, the best of the best are the staff, especially Margaret with her hospitality, care and cooking. Food was excellent!!!

I was also lucky with animal sightings and saw the big five by day two. I actually ended up seeing the leopard three times!!! This was my fourth longer safari trip (having been to Kenia, Tanzania and to other parts of South Africa before), and these were my first ever leopard sightings. The drivers / rangers on the drives and walks were knowledgable and great fun. Big thumbs up to Viva Safaris!

Hi Hanna-Kaisa Thank you for a WONDERFUL review! We are thrilled that you are" super-happy" with Katekani Lodge. Thanks for acknowledging the efforts of our staff, especially Margrett. She certainly is an excellent chef. Well done on your game viewing - to have seen the Big Five by day 2 is great ! We are thrilled that VIva Safaris provided your first ever sighting of a leopard - despite your having visited Kenya, Tanzania and other game reserves. Not one sighting of leopard but THREE - wow !!!! Thanks for the big thumbs-up !!! Be well.

The whole experience was amazing! The organization was seamless. Every day was filled to the max with a variety of adventures! The guides were amazing! Rocky, George, Viktor all were dedicated to finding us The Big Five and were so informative and knew so much about the animals and plants and it was so educational! Katekani Lodge was very comfortable and the rooms were huge with a walk-in shower and individual plunge pools! The highlight was the chef Margaret who made a special delicious meal for us every time we ate with her! Also all the people we met on Safari were so lovely! We never met such awesome people!

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our package with Viva Safaris and was blown away with the accommodation, which was clean, beautifully presented and very luxurious. The staff were beyond welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you, and the meals were delicious and there was plenty to eat! Viva safari’s exceeded all my expectations for my first safari in South Africa! The guides were so friendly, informative and knowledgeable and did everything they could for us to see the animals- managed to see the big 5! Could not recommend them enough!
