TOP CHOICE - Lonely Planet 2012 "If this hostel (a tastefully converted 1950's Tuscan home) were a B&B, it would be described as 'boutique'. One of Durban's best hostels, it has sparkling surfaces and rooms neat enough to pass an army major's inspection. It even provides a continental breakfast- to be enjoyed in an attractive indoor-outdoor dining area." Gibela is conveniently located in the safe, residential area of Morningside and within walking distance to the center of Durban’s entertainment life, Florida Road, where there are restaurants, cocktail bars, clubs and coffee shops galore.

Definitely recommend staying a Gibela Backpackers Lodge when travelling to Durban! I loved the cosy atmosphere, the clean environment and the kindness of the staff. Nice breakfast with fresh fruit salad!

Shame there was no-one to let me in when I arrived. I had rang them to let them know my flight was delayed. I reached at 8pm and the door was closed. I had to find another hotel to sleep. Very sad really they don't write that afther certain hour they don't let you in.

Had a fantastic 3-night stay at Gibela. It was very quiet, which was exactly what I wanted but the was close to Florida Road so if I wanted to enjoy the nightlife I could. It's also very short walk to a supermarket and laundromat, so I got everything done without needing to go very far. I wish I had known before that the wifi there is not unlimited (400MB/night) but I found it to be enough for me if I didn't stream anything. Plus Starbucks, with all the free WiFi you could need, is only a quick walk away. Very helpful staff and a fun cuiro shop. Breakfast was also great! Definitely stay at Gibela if you're looking for a quiet and clean hostel with a central location! Definitely would recommend!
