Bridal shower held on 5 December 2020, below email sent to owner and to this date (28/12/2020) no response: • None of your staff and waiters were wearing masks • No temperature checks were completed on guests upon on arrival or sanitisation requests • Your staff clearly told me they had no proper tablecloths due to a function the night before. • My guests arrived before the tea cups, cutlery and food did • I had to beg for Sam and the waiters to get things done, such as getting an extra table to house all the food, tablecloth, dishes, cutlery, food and of course to keep wearing a mask when entering our room, Sam even had the audacity at 3.15pm to me to calm down as it was getting done…note this is 1hrs and 15min after my function started • Food arrived that was not ordered by us but I had to just accept it. • Food that was requested to be vegetarian was not. Imagine yourself biting into a pork samosa after requesting it to not be pork…this is exactly what happened to my vegetarian cousin who bit into a chicken samosa after me requesting it to be vegetarian • When Sam, the manager, the chef and the staff were questioned they played the usual blame game and no one could provide me with a proper answer, and Vusi was blamed. • Regarding pastries only 1 of them was requested to be eggless and yet all of them turned out to be eggless • Everyone was sceptical of the scones as they had the golden top as if brushed with eggs when baked but I was assured it was eggless • When the tea cups arrived they were mismatched with some mugs arriving and everything was dirty so the waiter had to stand in the room while my function was going on and wipe them down • Coffee jugs and boiled water came through and as usual we had to ask for milk and teabags and sugars, please bear in mind again that this was a high tea function • The door was another pain point in our function as the lock bar was sticking out therefore it could not be closed fully and when asked Sam said he did not have the key • We had requested to see Vusi before we left and that also could not be arranged The best service I did receive was when I wanted takeaway containers, those arrived immediately because it seemed like the staff couldn’t wait to get rid of us. Overall a very disappointing experience and not a place I would recommend to anyone.…
I enjoyed staying at this hotel. I liked the size of the bed and curtain were beautiful. Our room was clean and nice, but they forgot to check if everything was working in our room (TV) and also not everything was there. I had to ask for milk, fridge, extra towels. All in all I liked your place.
St. James is an intimate place, very private and relaxing. I love how they have a restaurant. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms weren't so clean, found a few papers there and there but overall okay. It was value for money.
Myself and my husband recently stayed at the St James on Venice while he was in town for a congress. While the staff were very welcoming and accommodating our stay was sadly very disappointing. To begin with the quality of the hotel is not four star, even calling it a 3 star would be a push. The wall paper was badly scuffed, particularly upstairs leading to the rooms where large sections of it had black lines running across it, when in the room we noticed our walls were also scuffed, as well as the bathroom sink. Our bed was sufficiently comfortable but we battled to relax inside in our room as there was a very noisy Sheesha (Hubbly Bubbly) bar outside our window that was incredibly loud. Furthermore and perhaps most disappointing were the breakfasts. There were NO COLD BREAKFASTS at all on the menu - not even a basic pastry. When I asked if there was anything at all they could offer me instead of hot breakfast I was told fruit salad and yoghurt could be arranged only to be informed 15 minutes later that it in fact it couldn't be arranged as there was no yoghurt. On our second morning (still no cold breakfast on the menu) there was no fruit choice available at all. To make matters worse the hot breakfast was really not great and took a long time to prepare. Even the most basic of hotels have a pastry selection and fruit juice available for its guests. I am not sure when this hotel was last reviewed by the grading council but I do advise travellers that it is no longer four stars.…
Wonderful food, crispy clean rooms, environment is so lively. Very helpful staff, from the security to Manager everyone ready to help. Just go see for your self, the outdoor has a farm vibes with all the trees with amazing shades yet still stand out modern and elegant.
