I stayed at the Waterfront Hotel and Spa 2 years ago and what a pleasant experience, and beautiful view of the harbor. I was so excited to go back to the hotel in Oct 2020, what a disappointment. I could not believe my eyes when I walked into the hotel and saw how the hotel has gone downhill and no view of the harbor any more due to a big warehouse being build in front of the hotel blocking the beautiful view. On our arrival the reception was not friendly at all and we could not go to the room as they were still busy, we ask to order 2 coffees and the reception advised us there is no coffee and there were no staff to assist us. The reception advice us to walk to the next block and have some coffee at that "restaurant" being 2 ladies we took the walk and once we arrived at the "restaurant" it was a proper bar that is not appropriate for any lady and they do not even serve coffee. Once back we said to the reception we could not believe that she even send us to the bar for coffee. The room aircon was so noisy and not working we asked to be moved to a different room, and the second room was just as bad not clean and smelly. The next morning the breakfast was disgusting and I could not stand to see my clients at the hotel and spend another day at the hotel. I went to the reception and said I am not happy at all there were no manager to lodge my complaint and the reception said we can leave if we are not happy that I did. I will not recommend anyone to waste their time and money visiting the hotel.

Let me start of by saying: Waterfront Hotel and Spa, Durban offered us a slice of heaven through pictures and in reality it was an awful experience. Upon arrival: unpleasant reception area, dirty floor and a group of people socializing extremely loud on the side. During our stay: door, windows, walls, carpets and bathroom floor extremely dirty. Bird poop in the window sill, toilet leaking onto the floor and the shower light was not working. Between 1-2am there was a serious rage outside (music and people checking in) - sleeping was not peaceful. At breakfast: no variety of food, recycled sausages, oily scrambled eggs, lady to make sunnyside ups was very rude, dirty cutlery, no water, tables and place mats were dirty, no butter/margarine for the bread and there was no fresh air/ventilation in the room. We also called reception for bottled water and it was brought to our room, however, at breakfast we were hammered to immediately pay for the bottled water. Car parking: chicken bones everywhere and cars were partially not safe. Sorry Waterfront Hotel and Spa, Durban, you are not a match for a 3-star hotel and you have a lot of fixing and cleaning to do.

A decision to try a different hotel in Durban....the experience..... then a new decision....never again. Just NO! Firstly it's quite far along the old Point Rd near Lion Match and a block or 2 away from Ushaka. So some rooms face the harbour but sadly there's a huge terminal being constructed in front of it that will inevitably block the view. At least Ushaka is close. On arrival 1st room was filthy, full of dust and pigeon feathers and....on the floor. Pleasant receptionist at least changed the room and that was better.... except for the faulty vanity light in the bathroom and the crackling TV channels. Multiple requests to replace the light bulb went unattended to. Then going down for my 1st breakfast I entered the restaurant to find no one in attendance, no tables set, no breakfast buffet as per advertisement and dirty sticky tables and floors. In fact, I was sure I was in the wrong location. Back to reception....nope that was it!! On returning a chef came out and advised there was nothing on the menu except a fried Eng breakfast. No yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, or even a brewing pot of coffee. The wisdom of oily chicken livers for breakfast cruises my mind, given food turn around times, general lack of hygiene and cleanliness. Let's think normal hygiene here....not even Covid-19 ones!!! It did not feel safe and sanitary at all. When I asked to see a manager I was told there wasn't one there. It was obvious the staff were trying their best, but this hotel has obviously taken a knock and not spent a cent on their re-opening. On the walk back to my room I noticed all the other issues....pigeon poop all over courtyard floors, cracked windows and lift face fronts (all floors), the smell of smoke in corridors and room balconies that last had a sweep or clean eons ago. And the so caked Spa part of the hotel name. Not operational. It was sad indeed as this hotel has made no financial spend to restore the basics and the overall experience was not one that would draw me back. I doubt tourists would be happy with that standard and so it will likely slip further into decline. Last note.... I did lodge all this in worrying to customer services via booking.com. To date no reply or comment from the hotel at all. So thankfully my 3 nights there are over and I've moved on, but I for one won't be back, sorry to say.

A lovely hotel and an excellent price. The rooms are well appointed and so clean. I was most impressed. Good aircon system. The sheets were nice and crisp. The breakfast was good. Not special but tasty and I ordered eggs. There is a nice bar for the evening
