Nice hotel with good service. Only negative is the management policy of sticking booking with the number of people on the room to those who are eligible for breakfast. If you book a room with just one person and there’s two of you, the hotel will not allow the two of you to have breakfast, rather charge for one extra. Stupidity.

Our first trip to Africa, and South Africa specifically began with a few days in Johannesburg and a stay at African Pride. What an amazing first and lasting impression. Bella helped check us in, accommodated our requests ahead of time, and even upgraded our room without asking! On top of that, she had a sparkling personality…helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and fun (we offered to take her shopping with us, but alas, she had to work. It would have been fun).
Our room was frankly huge…about the size of a New York City apartment. No kitchen, of course, it’s a hotel after all. But certainly large enough to accommodate one. Everything in the room appeared new and was in good working order. Very little sign of wear and tear anywhere in the room (or throughout the property for that matter).
There were two nicely appointed restaurants on the premises, both modern with an elegant overtone to the decor. Breakfast was included in our rate and also did not disappoint. It was a combined buffet for items, plus a menu to order from…meaning that it’s a combined buffet and hot breakfast served at your table. The food quality for both breakfast and lunch was very good!
The staff here are the true stars of this location. Every single person made it a point to greet guests, smile, and be friendly and easy to strike up a conversation with. From the moment we were dropped off in front of the hotel until we left, we felt very well cared for. Staff went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. Shepherd at the front desk was extremely helpful in getting us an early check-in and assisting when our prepaid shuttle to the airport did not arrive on time. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious! The location is perfect - an easy walk to lots of restaurants and shops. My 89 year old Dad decided to buy some cigars and staff walked with him to a cigar shop. He was confused by the exchange rate and bought 10 cigars at $10 each. After realizing what he had done, he went to the front desk for help. They called the shop to try to get him a refund but he had smoked one of the cigars already and they would not take the rest back. We have family in Johannesburg and have found our new home for each year’s visit.

Stayed at this hotel just before going home and it was a great way to say good bye to Africa. The staff became friends, the location was great for dining and walking around at night. Bonvoy members got dining and drink discounts, the bar staff were amazing. There is a hop in hop off bus you can take from the nearby Marriott. The hotel can arrange tours and a driver - quite pricey though but as I was on my own it made sense. I loved my stay and my room which had a beautiful bath. It was the wonderful staff, however, that made this stay amazing. So many great staff but would be afraid to miss someone - they were the best!

We stayed her for one night in January, one our way to the Drakensberg mountains.
I absolutely love the aesthetics of this hotel. There's endless high-end African art scattered throughout the hotel. It's so beautiful. The room is somewhat quirky, and similarly arty. I loved it. There's high-end furniture and bathroom appliances, and, unlike in many other South African hotels, there's a proper coffee maker. Yay! Shame that our's didn't work, but I'm sure they'd have fixed it had we bothered complaining. Shame also that their room service people didn't check it during cleaning. Wifi, aircon, TV worked flawlessly. The safe was hidden behind a painting depicting a safe robbery. How clever is that?!
We had a king size bed, slept perfectly well, no complaints.
There's a gym and a pool, neither of which we tried.
Parking is tricky (you've to drive around the property into a public, underground parking garage), but once you've done it, it's easy. Your Waze or GPS is most likely to fail you, simply ask one of the Melrose Arch guards for assistance, they're used to that and will guide you.
Beware, if you're an international visitor and you have to pay in advance, they struggle charging your international credit card and you end up in a convoluted administrative nightmare involving ever more menacing automated reminders (your responses to those are seemingly not read by anyone). Eventually the deed was done manually, but really, for a property that markets itself as a luxury hotel, this was embarrassing.

Our first moments in South Africa have been wonderful. We stayed three nights at the African Pride Melrose Arch. The accommodations were very comfortable and the hotel staff very warm and friendly. Before and after day tours we ate in the hotel restaurant. Normally we would explore more but again the staff made you feel like an honored guest and the food was excellent and well priced. We enjoyed many different South African wines during our dinners.

The staff were exceptional, especially at the reception—Thando, Bella, and Peter were amazing, professional, and welcoming. The drivers were always on time, ensuring smooth transportation. The restaurant supervisors went above and beyond to assist me in finding suitable fasting food, making my stay even more comfortable. Excellent service all around!

My wife and I recently returned from a weeks stay at the African Pride Hotel Melrose Arch Johannesburg. The hotel was truly excellent . Guest Rooms are spacious, functional and well maintained. The levels of service at the hotel are very high but more importantly, staff are genuinely friendly and obliging . Also, as we visited during a low season period, the felt that we had benefitted from excellent value . ( The new gym in the hotel is smallish but excellent with new state of the art equipment ). An all round wonderful hotel. Highly recommended .

I had a wonderful time with my 10 other guests. Everyone enjoyed themselves due to the great hospitality of the hotel staff and Mr. Dingaan.
I frequently bring groups of guests to visit South Africa. I had 19 guests with me this past January. I had 10 guests with me last week. I will be back in Johannesburg in September and staying at the hotel once again. I look forward to my stay there as always.
Mr. Dingaan took special care of my wife during my trip last week. She became very ill and was confined to the hotel room for 3 days. While there, Mr. Dingaan made sure she had medication, soup, tea and whatever she needed. He went far above and beyond with extraordinary customer service and I am very grateful. The entire staff checked on her and my son while I was out hosting my guests at our various daily activities.
He also coordinated dinner for us at The Grillhouse up the street as well as decorated my room for my 55th birthday. Both are greatly appreciated.

Hi. You can email the Hotel and get them to arrange the pick up or at least give you the WhatsApp number of a trusted taxi driver. We used trusted taxi drivers arranged by the Hotel reception. Regarding early check in, same recommendation to arrange directly with the hotel the early check in.
