We don’t stay at this hotel but wished we had! It was just round the corner from our hotel and we were lucky to find it so close as everyone said not to go out at night! Lovely place to relax, with special cocktails, beers or whatever beverage you fancied really! We also ate here - the tuna appetiser was of particular note! Delicious!

Fantastic hotel in the centre of San Jose. Loved the quirky decor and chilled vibe. The roof top bar and restaurant is beautiful with excellent food and cocktails. Coffee and tea in reception all day to help yourself. What really makes this hotel stand out is the excellent service - everyone is so friendly, cheerful and helpful. A special shout out to Sharon and Daniel on reception (such lovely people) Jorge on luggage who does nothing but smile and Christian in the restaurant.

I would have rated 5 however the room is nothing like any of your photos. Closet doors missing, furniture that does not go with the room. Lights hanging out is the ceiling. And a frosted, cracked window with no view and it’s called a superior room. Large bathroom with a huge jacuzzi tub and open shower which actually sprays water everywhere. Disappointed in the room. Would have asked to be moved but a water pipe broke in the 4th floor and a tour group arrived. Now, on the positive. The staff is great. They were very professional and helpful and greeted us every time we passed through. They also delivered us a nice plate of yummy treats as a Honeymoon treat. Again great. Location is perfect to walk the city and see the sights. The lobby is quite impressive and once they are done with renovations it’s going to be great. It was hard to relax in the room but we leave in the morning. Appreciated the transport to and from the airport Again the service is great. Let down by the room.

Thank you for the review and the helpful details. The window, light and shower are being fixed as I type this. We are also refreshing our staff on the importance of promptly reporting anything out of the ordinary that needs fixing. We’ve had a lot of newcomers into the team, and we are bringing everybody up to speed. I am very very very happy to report that the new hardwood guestroom furniture FINALLY arrived, and we are installing it as quicky as availability allows us. We hope you had a great visit in Costa Rica, and a safe trip back home. Daniel

I stayed here for a few nights, and found the location very convenient. The room was comfortable and clean, and breakfast was delicious. And when I had a problem with my tourism plans, Daniel at the front desk went above and beyond to help me figure things out and make new plans. Thank you so much!

This is indeed an oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The architecture is amazing and the rooms spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious and the roof top is a must. I had the best pasta of my life sitting up there one evening. It is a bonus to have secure parking and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Paola at the front desk was delightful and Jorge was very helpful with parking and luggage. It’s a bonus that it’s pet friendly however it is 3 blocks to the nearest park. I would love to return and hope to stay longer nxt time. Well done to all at Hotel Presidente on a tremendous first impression.

The hotel was all around amazing. Room was spotless and well maintained. Staff was attentive but not overwhelming. Located close to Central plaza with shopping and nice restaurants nearby. We felt comfortable wondering the nearby streets and sights. Breakfast buffet was very good with nice selection and well maintained. Would definitely stay here again.

An architectural gem--a beautiful mix of the old and the new. Comfortable rooms but be sure to ask for a room with a window. Friendly staff. Ask about the history of the building and the original owner. Perfect location. 1/2 block from the pedestrian street. Nice breakfast. Great restaurant on the 4th floor with superb views if you're on the outside deck. Would definitely go back!

On our 3 week trip around CR, we began in San Jose. Hotel Presidente is perfectly situated near to all of the historic landmarks including the National Museum, National Theatre, Gold and Jade museums and the parks. The welcome by Daniel on reception was superb and this continued with all of the staff - Kenneth in the Nest was outstanding. We did eat in the Nest and enjoyed superb tuna risotto and red Thai curry. Our room was very big but starting to look a little tired although the bed was so comfortable and the shower powerful and hot. A really good stay in a tired and graffiti covered capital city.

I booked a king room and was given a room in the center of the building with no window. I asked for a different room and was told that only rooms without windows were available. I would not book here because it seems there is a good chance you will not get a window, which I have never experienced in my travels across the Americas, western and eastern Europe, and Southern and Western Africa among many 2 star to 5 star hotels. This is especially unacceptable because this hotel claims to be a 4 star hotel. I am waiting for compensation from the hotel or I will dispute the charge on my Amex card. Other notes: rooms are extremely outdated and don’t look anything like the photos on the website; the area of San Jose is unsafe at night; the breakfast is ok, gallo pinto is meh; airport shuttle is $45 one way per group
