We stayed here at the start of our Costa Rica trip and what a place to stay. Once you check in you are rewarded with a fantastic view to the ocean. The resort has a great infinity pool, large hot water jacuzzi and cool plunge pool....very relaxing. The staff are really friendly and helpful and there are fantastic breakfasts each day. We stayed in a garden room which was suited to our budget. The room was spacious and clean - the only drawback being that there are interlocking doors to the adjacent apartment so at times we could hear the other people. This didn't affect our stay too much though as you have access to such fantastic facilities. We did a tour of Manuel Antonio park which we booked through the resort, well worth it.

The nicest place to stay in Manuel Antonio. We did some tours and visited other resorts, and this was the best! It’s gorgeous, great food, warm pool, lots of animals, and the most amazing view from every room. Free shuttle to the bus, and they drop you off near loungers and food. It was walkable to several great restaurants like Cafe Milagro and Samui, and also right next to a grocery and pharmacy. Perfect location if you’re worried you’ll get bored eating at a resort for a week. We paid for a day pass to a more expensive resort, Arenas Del Mar, right on the beach and very fancy, but since it’s at the bottom of the hill it’s not walkable to anything. We were congratulating ourselves on our choice of Mariposa all week 😎

The views were incredible and we really enjoyed sitting by the pool and the bar staff was great. It never got crazy crowded and seeing the Scarlett Macaws each evening flying over was so special. Restaurant staff also very chatty and friendly. Beach shuttle was also nice to have. Check-in staff member seemed distracted and charged a $291 incidentals deposit to my card before telling me the cost or what he was doing. Unfortunately we chose to eat at the restaurant on Valentines Day and it was a fixed menu. Way overpriced for the quality of food, and nothing special, they were cooking for the masses though so was just bad timing on us I think. We walked down to Cafe Milagro the next night, 2 minutes away and really good food. We had a garden view room on the ground floor. It was very dated and it became a game of find the millipedes every time we entered the room. They were really small and harmless and we really didn't care but some might. We just laughed it off honestly after coming from Monteverde and seeing some gnarly spiders. Beds were comfy for us and the AC worked great, nice and quiet. I genuinely would stay again just for that sunset view at the pool each night but if not for that we would likely look elsewhere next time. Also shoutout to the cute resident cat.

The most beautiful view of all! It is perched up on top of one of the highest points in Manuel Antonio. It was slightly reminiscent of Santorini, Greece but with a Costa Rican vibe. We will never forget this experience and would definitely go back 💕

What a beautiful hotel and views are magical setting. The views from various places in the hotel so serene, beautiful, and breathtaking. The grounds are lush and the crew works to keep them beautiful. The restaurant is open aired with a breeze while you eat. From any seat you can see the Pacific.

We just returned from Manuel Antonio and spent 2 nights at La Mariposa. As others have mentioned, the views and the public areas were outstanding. As others have mentioned, the service was fine, but somewhat aloof and inconsistent. I was impressed by the room pictures on the La Mariposa website and decided to upgrade to a Premier Ocean Garden Sunset View room (#1). I have attached a few pictures from the La Mariposa website next to pictures for the exact same class as room that we received. While the view was great, the room wasn't even close to what I thought we were getting when we upgraded. I understand that hotels portray rooms in the best possible light, but at the *very least* the room should generally look like what you receive. That wasn't the case here and we felt ripped off. The bed was also not particularly comfortable. The hotel also has a bit of an identity crisis. The public areas would seem to dictate an quiet elegance vibe but the music played at the bar (like AC/DC) and the multicolored lights in the pool all night suggests that this hotel is not exactly certain what demographic it is trying to attract. If you really want the view, which is worth it, stop by and have a drink at the sunset bar. I would just stay elsewhere.

Let me start by saying I am a tough critic because this was my second visit to Manuel Antonio area but my first to La Mariposa. My first stay we stayed at Makanda which is in a totally different class, so I was not expecting that type of service. However, the service at this hotel, with a couple exceptions of truly stellar service, left a lot to be desired. Overall, I would stay here again, and I will give all the details both good and bad below. Upon check in we were greeted with no enthusiasm and none of the Costa Rican hospitality that is a hallmark of this amazing country. The check in staff were not friendly and actually made it seem that we were bothering them. This attitude remained constant the entire trip and we felt very unwelcomed by them whenever we needed to go to the desk (which is to exchange your pool towels everyday). On the other hand after leaving the desk we were approached by Andres —The BEST employee at this facility who is a waiter in the restaurant but welcomed us kindly to the hotel and offered us a reservation at their restaurant. His hospitality was the highlight of our time at La Mariposa. Every morning he greeted us and had some pleasant conversation over breakfast. When we ate in the restaurant for dinner he was always a smiling face with excellent service and hospitality. As far as the employees go, he is by far, the best representative of this hotel. Fabian, also in the restaurant, always a had a smile and was willing to help. The restaurant is beautiful, outdoors with a 360 degree view of the ocean and jungle. I think this is the best view from any restaurant in the area. The food is excellent. I would recommend eating here whether you are staying here or not. We ate dinner here twice during our stay and loved it. The breakfast is included and is a buffet with many options and an omelette bar. Traditional Costa Rican breakfast items are available as well as all the US standards. Our room (32) was truly magical. The room is minimalist with white floors and bedding and a floor to ceiling wall of glass that overlooks the ocean and jungle. The room was clean, comfortable, large and had all we needed. We woke every morning to the sun rising over the mountains, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. Two mornings we were awakened by the calls of the howler monkeys which are so amazing - nothing makes you feel more like you are in a true jungle and very special place. The only drawbacks of the room were that the bed and pillows were very firm, at times I felt like I was sleeping on a table. And the rain shower could have had more pressure. The hotel did arrange three outings for us and we were very impressed with both the outings themselves and the service from these companies. We took the Manuel Antonio Private guided tour, the horseback waterfall excursion, and the Amigos Del Rio 10 in 1 adventure. I would repeat all of these. They were fantastic. The grounds are clean and well kept with beautiful gardening. Being high in the hill you are above the jungle and therefore we did not have as many close up wildlife experiences as we did at a hotel lower in the jungle. However, the view is unparalleled, so you can pick what is important to you. The infinity pool area is clean and very pretty. It’s the perfect place to take in a sunset while relaxing in the pool. The location is also very close to many restaurants so you can walk to and from many delicious options. Overall, we had a great stay. I would consider staying here again. I would have liked friendly hospitality and service. Luckily, Andres offered the hospitality we hoped for.

The view is a 10 out of 10 but somehow they found a way to find unfriendly employees in a country filled with some of the nicest and most accommodating people I’ve ever met. Checking in, the front desk person was cold and unwelcoming, and they had an attitude when we asked for an hour late check out after getting sick from the food.
