The Westin is a very nice all-inclusive resort overall. The grounds are enormous, which never leaves you feeling crowded at the expense of everything being very spread out. The hotel is mostly bungalows set in nicely landscaped grounds. You will regularly encounter the local wildlife including various birds, iguanas, coatis, squirrels, and even monkeys around the grounds . The hotel itself could use some updates. Our room in the beach club was a bit dated. The hotel is at Playa Conchal and has direct access to the beach, which like all beaches in Costa Rica is public. The beach is quite nice and not crowded. You will find many vendors hawking their wares or services, but they are just making a living and are not pushy. You can get good massages on the beach. Definitely take a sunset or sunrise walk down the 2km beach. You need to ford a small stream about half way down the beach which is easily crossed unless it has rained a lot. You can get a paddle board or kayak from the hotel and it is a nice paddle down the beach as well. I saw a sea turtle right next to my kayak. For an all-inclusive, the food and drink is very good overall. Booking restaurants is aggravating and some like the Italian and the seafood restaurant were not impressive. The Asian fusion restaurant, Bamboo, was the best of the lot. The buffet restaurant was very good for a buffet and had a good variety of food choices. The service was generally very good but at times a bit random. The room cleaning was either great or we came back to no towels and no coffee. In room dining, which you will use a lot if you do outings, can be hit or miss. Sometimes you get what you ordered and sometimes you get chips instead of a salad. We stayed in the beach club, and the service at the dedicated pool and bar was excellent. The concierge for our tower, Jeffery, was superb. He was very attentive and efficient. I didn’t get the name of our other concierge who was also excellent but we had less interaction with him. The outings were the highlight of the trip. We booked one outing with Destination Services in the lobby for a volcano tour of Nicaragua. It was exactly as expected. The highlight of the trip were outings we booked with Erick Garcia, who you will find in a blue shirt on the beach just outside the hotel. He is great, and he will set up private tours for you. We did 2 day trips, Rio Celeste and Rincon. Both were really fun and very well organized. We also booked a surfing session with him. The nice feature of his activities is that you can tailor them to your preferences and you can set your own pace. The guides each have their own personality, so every outing is unique. Eric’s day trips start early and you don’t have to join up with a busload of tourists from other hotels, so you will arrive at your destination as soon as they open and you will be able to enjoy it crowd free. Our guides were amazing at spotting wildlife. When we came back from our waterfall and volcano hikes, the parking lot was full and there was a long queue of people waiting to get in. We were a bit reluctant to book with ‘some guy on the beach’, but after reading so many reviews we gave it a go and we’re really happy we did. Overall it was a really great trip and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Westin.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Westin as the first location for our honeymoon in Costa Rica. It was the perfect choice! The grounds were beautiful, and it was much bigger than we expected! Our junior suite was spacious, and the resort restaurants were tasty. We especially enjoyed the massive pool and swim up bar. Not overcrowded at all! The beach access couldn't have been easier. All of the staff were super friendly and attentive; we were treated so well! I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking at resorts in the area. You won't be disappointed!

Overall, I think there would be much better places to stay in CR for this price point. This resort was a bit bland and seemed much more appropriate for families with small kids. I would not recommend. Pros: The main pool had a lot of room and tons of available chairs which was great. Was not an issue at all to get chairs for the day. The hotel was also not at full capacity because of renovations, which may contribute to this The Italian restaurant was great Good breakfast Cons: Check-in was a mess, room wasn't ready at check-in time. Very little information is provided about the property, restaurants, and how everything works. Dinner reservations system is terrible! I tried contacting the hotel before arriving for dinner reservations and was ignored. Calling once arrived they seemed very confused. Was booked one night at the restaurant I didn't request, etc. In "low" season (November) half the restaurants aren't open, which contributed further to the mess of booking dinner. There are only 2 bars (Pool bar and Imperial bar, which opens at 5 pm) The beach was just okay The staff at the restaurants were great and super friendly, but some of the service was questionable. Little info provided at check-in, when we asked how to find hiking trails no one could answer, and when I asked the concierge to assist with booking transportation to our next location they seemed baffled by the request and eventually just hung up on me without ever following up again. Just sort of weird throughout and felt like a lot of the staff didn't know how things worked.

My family of four had an amazing time during our recent visit to this Westin resort. I can't say enough positive things about this place. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the food is great with many different options, and the pool area is fun. My teen boys loved having access to food 24/7. As a family, we enjoyed having access to the free bikes, paddle boards, and kayaks. The beach the resort is on is also very nice. It is clean, safe, and quiet. We booked a beach horseback riding excursion through Marilyn (she wears a red shirt and is located on the beach right outside the Westin), which I highly recommend. She was easy to work with and matched us with just the right horse for each person in our family. We also booked two excursions through Erik Garcia (blue shirt), who is also located on the beach right outside the property. Like so many other reviewers, I highly recommend him as well.

The BEACH is phenomenal and that is everything you need. Unlike other all inclusive resorts, I was actually very impressed with the food. The room in the upgraded area left a lot to be desired, but how much are you actually in your room anyway.... We liked being able to move from the private adults only pool to the main pool. I was surprised how quiet this resort was. SOME type of night life or entertainment would have been nice. We truly enjoyed every person that we met on our vacation here. Great people. Only regret is not being able to stay longer.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Westin on playa conchal. The amenities were very nice and house keeping cleaned up the room everyday, which I appreciated. The all-inclusive nature of the resort is awesome, all the food is amazing and the bar tenders keep the drinks flowing, including virgin cocktails for the kids. We booked an excursion with Erik Garcia on the beach (look for a blue shirt), and it was very fun and adventurous to say the least. I would highly recommend using Erik for any excursions or outings.

What a wonderful week at the westin hotel in Costa Rica. Our family of 6 absolutely loved every single day. The beach is breathtaking especially in the morning when there is no one on it. The Westin does not disappoint with it’s 5 start ameneties and service. The staff in this place are all so nice and we made several friends during our stay. Rooms are a bit dated but hey, it is what it is. The food was good, 2 of us got sick but we are prone for stomach issues when we travel. We loved trying the different restaurants and no complaints there. We booked this hotel 4 months in advance as we understood it would be sold out in November. What really made this vacation truly special was out excursions booked with Conchalfun. Like everything in life, the key to success is good planning. Exactly what we did: contacted Andrei at Conchalfun to help us set up a itinerary of fun for our family. We did a private sail boat charter, with food and snorkeling as well as open bar. We went as a day trip to rio Celeste and this was an incredible day with Ron the BEST guide we ever met in our many years of globetrotting. We say many groups but honestly none of the guided had Rons charisma, few humans actually have his amazing personality. If we would of waited to book, we understood we get “what's available” it’s a no brainer: chose your favorite days and tours and its done ! We also did the ATV tour and it was amazing to see local villages and different beaches. There is so much more to see in this beautiful country and we will be back for sure. Thank you Conchalfun for this incredible time.

We stayed here for 6 nights starting in the middle of November 2022. We booked the all inclusive package through Costco. We flew into the Liberia airport and had a private transfer to the hotel. The drive is approximately 1 hour. For the entire trip, rain was forecasted every day, but we only saw about 45 minutes of rain at the resort the entire time we were there. We are a family of 4, we had one room. The room had two full sized beds with a pull out sofa. The room was in good shape, but by the end of the trip it seemed small for the 4 of us. The bathroom had a shower (no tub). The mini-bar and snacks were stocked daily and we were able to customize what we wanted. The pool was wonderful, and the poolside service in the family section (Yosselin and Kevin) was amazing and the concierge were very attentive to our needs. We made reservations for and ate at La Sabana, Manglar, Spirula Trattoria and Bamboo. We had reservations to go back to La Sabana and Manglar but chose not to because the food wasn't what we were hoping for. Thankfully, Mitra opened for dinner the last two nights we were here so we just opted to eat there at our own leisure. Generally speaking, the restaurants seemed to have slow service and, in my opinion, employees that weren't as attentive to our needs. Many times we would ask for something and it would be forgotten or come 15 minutes later. For example, we asked for refills on our drinks and ate our entire meal before we received them. This is where the resort can improve the most, in their restaurants. We requested reservations (6:30pm) before we arrived, but still received mostly later reservations. This was very difficult with a younger child. Mitra has so many options for both breakfast and dinner, it was wonderful! For excursions we booked everything through Erik G (blue shirt) on the beach. You can't miss him once you walk through the gate to the beach. Everything he said was true and accurate. The first excursion we did was ziplining over the trees. There were 9 lines that our family got to ride. We opted for the photo package so we didn't have to take our phones with us and could completely enjoy the experience. The second excursion (Rio Celeste) we took the tour to see the blue waterfall at the Tenorio Volcano National Park, a brief stop at the river, coffee and cocao plantation tour, sloth tour, lunch. This was a private tour and our guide, David, and driver, Allen, were awesome! Seeing the sloths was most certainly the highlight of this tour! Our third excursion was surfing lessons with Pablo in Tamarindo. This was such a wonderful experience as well! The beach is not private and you will encounter vendors, but they leave you alone once asked. We never once felt as if safety was a concern. My wife and I both noticed that it felt much safer than we expected. Massages are available on the beach for $30/hour. There's nothing better than a massage on the beach with the sound of the waves crashing. Overall, we enjoyed this property very much. It's well manicured and quite beautiful. As I mentioned before, the restaurants left a lot to be desired and I feel that this is where the resort can improve the most. We would certainly return to this property again if given the chance!

Staying here right now for 1 week; today is day 4. There is only 1 tequila (la jarana) available unless you pay for an upgraded drink package, same for whiskey/bourbon, and gin. There is only 1 “open bar” for the entire resort, outside of the individual sit-down restaurants (which are mostly only open at night after 6pm with very few exceptions). For the “upscale restaurants” - 1-2 are really good, 1-2 are just average, and 1-2 are flat out bad (quality of food). The only reasons this isn’t a 1 star review is b/c the staff are very friendly and welcoming, and they are attentive/responsive to your individual needs for your room (bedding, room service). Also, the beach is beautiful (as with many places in Costa Rica), and the pool area is nice/large. Wouldn’t recommend to friends/family; definitely not a 4-4.5 star resort - this is a 3 star resort at best
