Howler Monkey sits in a very chill spot up the hill. The pool area is really cool and a great place to hang out in the evenings while talking to people. Our host was a really cool guy and we liked that it was situated a little bit out of town. We stayed here right after having our worst day of the trip and it really could not have worked out better. I even saw an armadillo in the backyard by the pool! There's nothing too flashy about the place, but it's clean, quiet, and a great rest stop by the jungle.

I really enjoyed Howler monkey hostel in La fortuna,CR. The owner Edison was so sweet, kind and real chill. Me and My friend visited the hostel during march. It was easy to book and Edison was flexible regarding our change of plans, he was also willing to help us out regarding having some place to stay if our flight got cancelled wich made us feel like home. The hostel in it self had a nice pool and places to hang around and chill with other guests. Edison also helps you out if you want to book any activities. The only downside was that it took a bit to walk to get to stores. However There was a good restaurant nearby.

The owner is awesome and treats you like family. He doesn’t do it for the money, he just wants everyone to have a great time. He told me the only reason he charges is so he can keep making the place nicer! Highly recommend. It’s true though that sometimes people stay up late listening to music (not obnoxiously though) so bring ear buds if it’s too loud for you. I slept fine through it.

The hostel is more in the forest, it's very peaceful. Someone cleans the hostel everyday! Nice dorms. 2 km away from downtown so if you don't have a car, it takes you approx 30 minutes to go to town. The owner is very rude. There's no quiet hours so a party lasted until 4 am with loud music playing. Also, badly organized.One day we arrived in the middle of the afternoon and we were locked outside because all the staff had left.

Very inviting and a beautiful walk from the bus station. Arenal volcano is visible through most of the walk. It is a perfect vlog walk for vloggers because the volcano is in the background. The hosts are awesome, and hung out with us. Shout out to Edison. Super cool guy. Will definitely come back here and stay longer next time.

Pros: Relatively comfortable beds, relaxed atmosphere. Cons: Very buggy. Besides the bedrooms (which are left open sometimes), the structure is not fully enclosed. Therefore, it is very buggy. Mixed/other: Although they have someone to help with planning, I have had experiences with other hostels that were more knowledgeable and helpful during planning.

A very nice hostel with super friendly staff and pool. Open kitchen- and livingarea are perfect to have a good time. Furthermore it is really close to the town of La Fortuna. I would definitely recommand it!

Even though the hostel may be a bit out of town, it is definitely worth the stay. Edison is an amazing guy who cares about all his guests. He made sure we were having a great time. His Labrador Monkey is the cutest thing ever! Miss this place and hope to be back soon!

This hostel is a little outside of La Fortuna (maybe a 20 minute walk), but this has its advantages! I enjoyed being a little away from it all, and it also means it is only a 45 minute walk to the La Fortuna waterfall where most people have to get a taxi. It has a great pool with a waterslide, a nice communal area for chilling out, a hot shower, etc. Edison (and his dog) are very charming and helpful, you can book tours and transport through him directly, and he speaks excellent English.

Best hostel I’ve been to in Costa-Rica! Enjoyed it so much! Edison is such a nice guy, and his best friend Monkey (brown lab) lights up the place! If you ever visit the area you have to go to this place! Home away from home! Would go back in a heartbeat!
