We tried to contact this hotel numerous times over call and email to cancel due to COVID-19, especially as the border with Costa Rica is closing, and have been shouted at and made to feel afraid. I do not recommend staying here as the staff has been rude, unaccommodating, and just plain mean when we never did the same.

Response from correos archivo, Dueño at Hotel Tangara Arenal

Their message is so irrational, they made us feel scared! or they are in the wrong place, we do not understand why they should feel fear or we should have treated you badly, if we do not tolerate any abuse or hostage to another guest, in case it happens we will go to the tourist police but to avoid shows we ask that they leave the facilities The priority is to protect the guests and staff of Hotel Tangara Arenal.Always speaking the truth opens doors! My brother and I stayed at Hotel Tangara for four nights. It was great. The rooms are clean and spacious.”, with good AC and spotless washrooms. The hotel is surrounded by a magnificent tropical garden, complete with hummingbirds and, if you are lucky, toucans. Staff members Solomon and Herberto were very helpful, and organized many fine outings for us. A generous breakfast is included with the rooms. The hotel Tangara is about a 15 minute walk from downtown La Fortuna Arenal. We didn’t have a car, but taxis were cheap and only took a few minutes. This is a much more peaceful setting than in town. I slept well because of it. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our stay. Lovely room in a beautifully designed wooden building. Great breakfast with a nice pool in the lovely garden. This was great value! A pleasant surprise. We would stay there again.

This was a cute hotel that served us well for a short trip to the Arenal region. Run by lovely, honest people, this is a real value for money option and you won't be disappointed if you're on a budget but still looking for quality.

Beautiful property, lots of birds and wildlife on the grounds. We stayed in one of the bungalows (114) it had a cute open porch with chairs and hammock, where you can watch the birds and lizards. You are really close to the pool from the bungalows. The room is big, with a big comfy bed. Bathroom was also big with a walk in shower, which was nice and powerful. The pool area, I only used the pool once as we were quite busy doing excursions etc. I would have to say that it is lovely. I was lucky enough to have the pool to myself, the flooring is HOT around the pool so wear your flip flops or whatever until you get in the pool. There is a shallow pool to sit in leading to the main pool. It’s not big but enough to do some swimming. Sun beds are plastic yet comfortable. The hotel is really quiet, which we put as a good thing as we we’re on holiday!! The owners could not do enough for us whilst we were there, they ordered us pizza one night and had it delivered to our hotel door for us! Anything we needed they helped us with. They called taxis for us, to get into Fortuna town it is about $3. You can walk into Fortuna - it is about 20 minute walk from the hotel- prepare to get sweaty as not a lot of shade on route. Whilst our reservation stated breakfast included in price it actually wasn’t. Coffee was included but if you wanted food you had to pay for it (between $4-$7 depending on what you order) we didn’t eat there. We went to a soda next to the bank and it was cheaper then the hotel and food and drinks were delicious. Whilst we didn’t have a problem with bugs please note that you are staying in a rainforest area and there will be bugs around. If you stay in a bungalow you will hear at night bugs outside and things crawling about. We did stay at two hotels and I would 100% come back here over the other hotel we stayed at.

This hotel has staff that specialize in providing excellent customer service. They are very helpful with booking restaurants, shuttle service or taxis as well as organizing tours. We were fortunate to stay in a cabin, with a comfortable bed and hot shower. The grounds and pool area are beautifully maintained. We enjoyed a nice homemade breakfast every morning. It is an easy 15-20 minute walk into town. We highly recommended this hotel in La Fortuna.

This hotel is very reasonable and clean, with an amazing staff. It is older and we knew we were not in for a fancy resort experience so it worked. It’s conveniently located and the breakfast was good and generous. They had the best coffee we experienced in Costa Rica! The staff gave us a very good recommendation for dinner and directed us to an excellent doctor needed by someone in our group. The bathrooms are very small and older but good showers. Room was very large. They were able to book our Sky Tram trip which we enjoyed. (Be sure to hike down as few do and it’s delightful)

Stayed here for too short a time on our trek around Costa Rica. Hotel Tangara is set away from the town, but within a fifteen minute walking distance dependent on how fast you walk. Location is nice and peaceful, and grounds are well kept. Nice place to relax after a day out on tours. Few eateries close by if you fancy a bite to eat. Rooms are clean and spacious with toiletries such as soap. Good Wifi reception throughout, which came in handy specially as we had to rearrange our accommodation to our next location. Breakfast is not buffet but sufficient to get you started for the day. Use of the kitchen is permitted so you can make yourself a nightcap before going to bed. Wash the cups as they will be needed for breakfast. Staff are really great and helpful and go out of the way to accommodate. Thanks to Edi David, Floreiny Shirley and Fabiola. We stayed during the Footbal World Cup. On our last day Edi was kind enough to let us watch a match before we departed. Much appreciated. Also had my laundry done at a very reasonable rate. Definitely, worth a stay no complaints. When next over that way, will return and for longer. Thanks again ... memorable Thanks again

We initially booked a hotel room but Heri upgraded us to one of the cabins by the pool. The room itself was private and large and even had a fridge and tons of storage. It was super quiet and private, we really enjoyed the location. It’s not directly in the city center, but it was a pleasant 15-20 minute walk and we were happy to get some exercise. The breakfast is great and Heri made sure we felt at home. The pool was a nice amenity that we actually utilized a lot. For the price of the room we thought we got an incredible deal! They definitely took pride in hospitality and they made us feel welcome and comfortable. Would definitely stay again!
