The day we went everything but a family cabin was booked so we took it even though we were a couple because we needed a place to stay and most hotels around were at capacity. Our cabin was spacious and cool but a bit outdated just like the lobby and their restaurant. The hotel has wonderful views of the Arenal and the surroundings are beautiful. Electricity went off a couple of times one morning so did the Wifi and hot water. I'd recommend this place to nature-friendly people since there's nothing fancy there.
The lodges are rustic but charming, very clean. Breakfast was quite delicious and the Christmas dinner also yummy. Hotspring very comfortable with the three temprature pools. Best part is abundant wildlife and kind people to help you see them. In the morning I saw a flock of one male and four female Great Currasaws just ambling around the restaurant area. The hotel team showed me how to look for a mommy sloth and her baby then sent me videos of them when they were being very active but I wasn't in the hotel to see them. Other song birds flutter around a clear view of the Arenal volcano in the mornings. Delightful place with a big heart, highly recommended.
My family (2 adults 2 teens) stayed in a "standard family room". The room itself was very spacious and it was important to us to have 3 beds. The room had a rustic feel, a little dark, we did not try the tv and there was no air conditioning, but this was never a problem. The bathroom was the biggest negative as our shower did not drain well and could have used a serious scrubbing with bleach. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful! And the view of the volcano amazing! The hot springs it is true do not all have water in them and the ones that do look a little questionable due to being murky. However we used them anyway and enjoyed the soak surrounded by nature and birdsong. The pool was very good and we had it all to ourselves when we used it. We also sat in the reception/ lounge area a good bit, to read on a rainy afternoon or play card games at night. It was a nice amenity to have available. Having a restaurant on site was super helpful. The breakfast is not fancy but serviceable and there is plenty of it. We ate there for dinner two nights after long days adventuring when we didn't have energy to go back to town. We felt the food at dinner was good and reasonably priced- my daughter and I thought the soup was really fantastic! The best part about Kokoro is Ms. Peggy & her staff. They are so friendly and helpful and provide the best service. Ms. Peggy arranged our private transportation from San Jose to Arenal. They helped with restaurant recommendations and transportation everywhere we wanted to go. They offer their own taxi service for a modest extra fee and we used it almost exclusively to get to and from our activities. And one of the nights we were there was my son's 17th birthday- although we had had a very fun action packed day, we realized at 9pm that he had not had any "cake". I went to Ms. Peggy and within 15 minutes she came back with a big piece of chocolate pie complete with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and a candle. Ms. Peggy to the rescue! Overall we were very happy with our stay and felt it was a good value. We would definitely recommend Hotel Kokoro to other families traveling to the Arenal area. …
Had a wonderful three night stay over Christmas with another family. Breakfast was ample and delicious - solid coffee, fresh fruits, eggs, pancake, and local tipico fare. The hot spring is a major plus in our experience. It's constantly maintained and this is felt in the temperate and water quality. At the end of hikes and nature tripping, soaking in its three huge hot springs is much welcome. Rooms are clean with good AC. No problems with showers too. There's a short trail but we didn't get to explore it. Highly recommend this place.
Beautiful hotel and grounds staffed by beuatiful people who really seemed to want to make our stay as fab as possible by being so friendly, helpful, welcoming and just all round lovely! Our room was great with a wonderful view of the volcano. The pool was fab and the hot springs were a delight. Lovely restaurant - the breakfast was amazing and we ate their one night and it was ace. Would definately recommend and love to come again one day.
The perfect blend of ambiance and hospitality. The staff and managers are incredibly friendly. Rooms are spacious, well kept, comfy mattress and working AC!! Pool and thermal springs were nice after long days of hiking through the jungle. Only a quick drive to town and a walkable local coffee spot made this place perfect for us! Our room view of the volcano was pristine (when the clouds didn’t cover it (obviously not the hotels fault))!!
Nice facilities with really big accommodating rooms. Even though I traveled solo my room was big enough for at least four other people. Bathroom high. Lighting was not the best but what can I expect it’s the rainforest. Bug bug bugs if you are scared of bugs you need to make sure you sleep under the mosquito net and keep your lights off because they are everywhere.
We stayed at this hotel between March 12,13, & 14. We reserved an upgraded room 6 months in advance of our stay. Our room was large but had only a bed, small wicker loveseat and TV on a very high desk with no chair. There was no closet to store clothes', no place to put suitcases, no table/desk for my laptop, no chairs to sit on. The bathroom had no place to put toiletries. I complained to the staff about this and they did deliver a dining table, two chairs, a table for a suitcase, and some hangers for clothes. The hot tub had no water and was surrounded by yellow tape. There was no water in two of the three hot springs. The one with water was so discolored I would not use it. The hotel is very poorly run. They have a lot of large school tours that stay there. So noisy at breakfast time. Such a lovely location and nice grounds but they need better management. The hotel is over priced for the quality provided. A very disappointing experience hotel experience.…
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. While rustic, it was clean and cozy. The grounds were great and well kept, pool was awesome and the hot springs were wonderful. GREAT locations, 7 min to downtown La fortuna in an Uber or they do have on site shuttle. We did bogarin trial and saw the sloths, we did a combo day of going to the waterfall, hiking arenal volcano and finished with a very nice public hot spring Another day we went white water rafting, zip lining and had lunch. This was all set up by Peggy (the owner) and her office associates. They are so friendly and welcoming. The server at breakfast and also dinner was so wonderful. This resort and downtown is the best food we have ever had in our lives. This trip is highly recommended! Oh, and the view on site of the Volcano is spectacular.…
I stayed here with my family and we had a blast! The food was delicious, the room service was so helpful, and especially Mrs. Peggy. She was so welcoming to us when we first got there and made us feel very special. And the view.....Chef's Kiss! I had so much fun in the hot springs, and one day, we actually saw the full volcano. I really do recommend this place to and kind of trip- family, friends, and buisness. I loved it.
