Really lovely owner/manager and staff who spoke English and went above and beyond to be helpful and accommodate us throughout the entire stay, and even afterward. The room was modern, clean with comfortable air conditioning and had an enormous shower with warm water that my whole family enjoyed. Breakfast was delicious, healthy and beautiful. And the coffee strong and delicious too!The humble sized property is beautiful with a lot of birds and insects to see closeby. The location worked perfectly, as it was private enough to be quiet and tranquil but close enough to the center of town, many stores, restaurants, and sights to be convenient. It far exceeded our expectations at such a good price.

This lodge is quiet, very clean. The hosts provide excellent customer service. They treat you like family. The breakfast costs $7/per person and is great. Very close to la Fortuna waterfall and town. A rental car is handy in this town to get to various spots. There are so many hummingbirds here. Coffee on porch watching hummingbirds was a favorite activity. It’s a lovely place and we would stay again.

We had a wonderful stay in Selvita Lodge! Adrian, Irene, and Josue were incredible hosts! The breakfasts were delicious, from traditional Costa Rican breakfast to pancakes and eggs. Living in the cabanas felt like Paradise! The cabins were always clean, Excellent air conditioning and fan and bathrooms.

They were great hosts and helped us make our itenerary. We hiked on the trail around the grounds with Adrian and he pointed out the amazing local wildlife including red frogs, pavon, and beautiful hummingbirds.

We would totally bring our family of seven here again!

My husband and I just spent 5 nights at the Selvita Lodge Arenal. This is a great location as you have the benefit of the Arenal Volcano and the darling little town of La Fortuna. The cabins at Selvita Lodge are very spacious, modern, have a huge bathroom, air conditioning, refrigerator, cable TV, fantastic Wi-Fi internet and beautiful colorful plants that you would imagine in Costa Rica. Selvita Lodge is on a residential street that offers a wonderful handmade wood gift shop, shake drinks, and restaurants. We had a total sense of exclusion, away from the crowd of downtown La Fortuna, however just a short 5 minute drive into town. The owners, Adrian, Irene and their son Josue we're very family oriented and made us feel welcomed at all times. The cabin comes with a home cooked breakfast every morning by Irene and you have your choice of 3 different breakfast options. The Selvita Lodge is perfectly located in the center of all the activities you could possibly imagine. Adrian can make all the tour arrangements for you. We booked 3 tours through Adrian, Baldi Hot Springs, White Water Rafting and the Unique Cano Negro River Cruise. Once we booked Adrian did all the work. He followed up to assure we would be picked up and we felt very safe at all times, knowing that Adrian made all the arrangements. All tours were an amazing experience. If you are looking to be a little away from town and have a sense for Costa Rican life style, yet all the convinces of home and still close to town, I would highly recommend Selvita Lodge Arenal.

Prior to our trip I called and spoke to the son of the owners to make them aware of our upcoming trip and late arrival. Our flight was not arriving until 7:40pm into SJO. The private transportation service I made plans with told me it would be 3 to 4 hours from the airport to Selvita Lodge. I repeated this twice to him and asked if he could please be sure to note this in our reservation. He assured me he did and he himself would be available upon our arrival between 11pm and 12am. As soon as I landed at SJO and had cell phone service I sent an email to the lodge giving them an update on our arrival status. I told them we were on our way from the airport.

Upon arrival, after a full day of traveling, we were greeted with a locked gate and a pitch black parking lot. I climbed over the gate and used my cell phone to make it to a door that I hoped to be the front desk (but appeared to be a house). I knocked on the door several times. No answer. Luckily our transport van was still waiting and had WiFi so I was able to make a phone call to the number I had called previously. The owners answered and came outside to inform me that our cabin had been given away to another family because they did not think we were coming. At this point our transport van had left. Awesome.
The family had been searching for an empty room and could not find one...the town was fully booked for Easter. You can imagine my reaction. 😡 They said don't worry we will take care of it. So we sat on the front porch and watched a poor mom, dad, and 2 young kids get kicked out to the streets at 11:30pm.
We finally get in our room, which still had the sheets from the prior tenants and no towels for a hot shower, which I was dying for at this point. But guess what, no hot water. So to bed we went, knowing we had to be up for a volcano hike in the morning. The next morning, we had hot water. 😊 On the hike we went. It rained the entire time, which is expected in the rain forest. No problem. The problem occurred when we got back to the cabin at 10pm (cold and muddy) and again had no hot water. At this point I thought maybe they only allow you to shower with hot water in the mornings. 😡 After an hour of them 'trying to fix it' they moved us to another cabin.
This cabin was right on the road...with alot of traffic noise, had NO bathroom door, and the bathroom sink was not attached to the wall. So every time we would turn the faucet on the sink would fall into our hips. But we had luke warm water 👌 right? Oh yeah, and the AC actually worked in this room 😊. The first cabin it barely worked. Luckily there was a ceiling fan.

I would have loved to write an amazing review about my experience here like all of the rest of the reviews I read in my researching hotels, but I had quite the opposite experience. We ended up cancelling the rest of our stay there and moved to the La Fortuna Downtown Inn which was so much nicer and CHEAPER. And as for a view of the volcano from the cabins...maybe if climb a tree...let me know how that goes. 😉. OH YEAH and upon departure, guess what, he 'found' the email I sent from the airport. It was sitting on the office desk as I was checking out.
If I had to add a pro...the family was nice and tried to help but the place needs some TLC.

Mrs. Denise had no communication that they would be so late. With all the good intentions he was given up food to the other people who had 4 hours of looking for accommodation and did not find it. You were given the beds well-adjusted and changed. The electrical appliances are not perfect and that night a water heater failed which was repaired the next day. They change to another room that has hot water and very little noise because after 5 pm the traffic is almost nil. As our deal is familiar and personalized and we like to share with our clients I offered them free breakfast and their response was negative and in very bad way. You got angry when you came to pay me that by the way I did not charge you two more nights that I should have charged you and I showed you the mail that said nothing to arrive so late. Besides, I was just touching the desk, not like you say I'm sitting in it. All cabins have air conditioning. We are not perfect and there are moments that something does not go well but the comments that we have sound very good thanks to people very grateful and happy with our treatment, we will always improve so that the tourists who are our friends feel at home and can pass it of the best. Adrián.

We recently stayed two nights at Selvita Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Lodge includes four large, clean and comfortable cabins each surrounded by lush vegetation. The family that owns the lodge was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We speak very little Spanish but had no trouble communicating. It almost felt as if we were doing a homestay, but we had the privacy of our own cabin. We had a lot of rain while we were in La Fortuna and missed seeing the volcano, but the family and our stay at Selvita Lodge made up for the disappointing weather. We didn't have a car and had no trouble walking to/from town for dinner. There is a little restaurant called Bettys that is also located nearby and has delicious soups and traditional Costa Rican food at reasonable prices. The lodge is conveniently located on the road to the La Fortuna waterfall. Selvita Lodge was a great base for exploring Arenal and we highly recommend it!

This is a family operated business with very nice owners. They will try to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
The cabins are comfortable and the surroundings are quiet and beautiful. Breakfast is good too, they will cook what you want and the bread is homemade.

This is a small cabin-style hotel with only 4 cabins available. It is entirely operated by the owner and his wife (really nice people).

It is located just outside the town of La Fortuna, very close to the waterfall and close to some adventure activities (zip lining, horseback riding, etc.)

They advertise "hot water" but it only comes out "steaming hot" (unbearable) for the first minute and from then on it's freezing cold (which is not that bad for the weather).

There was an old TV in the room, but no cable. The fridge was not even plugged. There's no wifi in the rooms, but the owners will gladly let you use their computer in their house (located inside the hotel).

The cabin was very clean, roomy and well-kept. Breakfast is fresh and tasty, prepared in the moment by the owner's wife.

Our overall experience was very pleasant and I would definitely recommend it as a low-budget alternative to visit La Fortuna and the Arenal area.

It was a lovely quiet unpretentious cabin that was very clean. My children didn't see a single bug in the cabin for our 4 days there even though outside it was humid and tropical which I found frankly incredible.

They had wifi that was slow but worked enough for my son to play games and me to check email. The air conditioning was good.

We used taxis to get around and that added a nice touch of meeting local folks. I loved the garden where I saw frogs, toads, lizards, and humming birds. We did not find mosquitoes but there were little fruit-like flies outside. The set up seemed to work well to keep them out of the cabin. Although we had our tours planned because we arrived at a busy Easter week, Adrian will help you with tours and activities either before hand (he was very prompt to respond to email prior to our journey) and during your stay.

My sons thought the pancake breakfast with eggs the best of the trip and Adrian and his wife were simply lovely.

Thank you for your hospitality!

Each A frame lodge was built in such away as to feel like your in a garden. Just outside bungalow number 1 you can see the Volcano Arenal. This was a spectacular place for the money if your are doing day trips and it is just close enough to La Fortuna but you feel at peace with no hustle or bustle. It's a 2 minute car ride to be in the center of La Fortuna. We took a day trip to Nuevo Arenal along the lake looking for house and found several with fantastic views of the lake and volcano but it was nice to return "home" to Selvita arenal after a long day. Breakfast is not included but for 6 dollars you can get a typical american breakfast or a "typical tica" breakfast. Both Irene and Adriane were attentive hosts. We had a wonderful time at their B & B
