This is a very busy, crowded hotel. The hot springs were crammed full of people so we decided not to enter. Rooms were old and tired. Breakfast was average. We stayed the night before at Tabacon and then switched to this hotel which was a more affordable option. Maybe the experience would have been different if we stayed here first and then went to Tabacon after.

This resort has so many great qualities. Location to the volcano. Hot springs. Great pool w water slide. Guest service in lobby was inadequate. One person in our party booked 4 rooms. They did not have the ability to put each person on their respective rooms when we arrived. Therefore, everyone in our party was called Don throughout our stay. Including my mom. . I had to argue to get a safe key. The front desk attendant upon check in was plain rude and condescending. Crummy way to start your vacation. Breakfast buffet was a bright spot. They are building a bar next to that area and at 9am the pounding begins. So go early if there is construction. Food selections were good. They have a non-OSHA compliant water slide that was terrifying and amazing. Just get out of the splash zone before the next slider. No attendant up top, so people come one after another. The pool area was clean and nice. The hot springs are hard to describe. Simply amazing. Lots of pools of varying temps and lots of privacy. Great place for couples. The pool bar was underwhelming. Can’t open a tab. Gotta pay for every beer/drink that you order as you go. Kind of annoying but think they get day visitors and imagine they could walk out easy? Around 5pm, people converge on the pool bar after their daily activities. For our visit, it was mostly college age kids. Loud and a bit unruly. Hopefully they get that other bar open with a calmer vibe. Getting cabs to town was easy, but also discovered Uber worked well. We found scheduling activities Thru TripAdvisor was the best for activities. We booked one in town (worst experience). The resort concierge was rarely there. We had 2 standard rooms (107-108) and 2 “superior” rooms (128/129). The rooms were the exact same size and all had same furnishings. The standard room locations were better located. Had big uphill walks to get to the superior rooms. Rooms were basic. Clean. 2 beds. No chairs (small bench out front door). A/C worked good. It was hot and humid during our first 2 days, then didn’t need it as much. Overall, there were some great points about the hotel (hot springs) and no so great (front desk check in guy, crowded pool bar). Overall a 3.5 star rating.

What a beautiful resort! Everyone is incredibly nice. Special shout out to Oscar, our driver everywhere. Our room was pretty far away so we had to call the shuttle quite a bit, but never had a problem with that. We did try to hike up to the observatory with two little kids and that didn’t go well. It’s a really long way up there so I don’t recommend going unless you have a vehicle. breakfast was amazing. So many options. The pools are great. Our 2.5 year old could stand in the hot spring pools, so he loved that! I highly recommend this place!

We have already stayed in this hotel about a year ago. It was a lot quieter in regards to guest numbers. The restaurant was having work completed on it & various other construction was active. Our room 217 was high up on the resort, very spacious with coffee & A/C and sitting outside on Botha sides of the room. The room was dated in decor but kept very clean. The bathroom was not the best in that you had to climb into the bath for a shower, the step moved & floors could be slippy. The pool bar is the only bar in the resort & is surrounded by the hot springs & pools. It can be very busy.

As background, I book 100+ nights a year. Some of this is multiple rooms per night, but many are just me, so see many different hotels. That being said, this one is a gem. Excellent customer service from the check in, food service, pool service, maintenance and so on. I was looking for some animals and there were several workers who dropped what they were doing to show me different things to see and photograph. As described, the hotel is on the hill so a good walk. The pools go up and down the hill with paths, bars and different pool options from hot to cool. There are a number of bird species that are around and frogs croaking during the night. There was even a sloth on the upper end of the pools. There are some of the pools that are more intimate in nature as they are more secluded, to big family areas and slides. The swim up bar is always great, but what I loved, was the morning it was drained as they were cleaning it. They filled it shortly, but was great to see it being cleaned. The breakfast had a lot of typical Costa Rican breakfast selections and of course very good Gallo Pinto. The fruit was fresh and the selection very broad. I ate in town for the other meals so cannot comment on the rest of the food. Arenal was showing her splendor while there and much of the day you could see to the top. Stunning to be sure, but what surprised me a bit was how much I enjoyed sitting in the pools looking at the clouds as they moved past. It created a nice contrast and was fun as the views were in a constant state of flux. My room (building 4) faced the volcano and what was great was night. As the sun went down, the views of the volcano changed and the frogs and other animals started a concert. I sat there for a long time watching the volcano disappear into the darkness and the other animals. Many hotels have a jungle feel, but this one sounded like I was in the jungle with how loud they were. I was there scouting for a group of friends and this is one that I want to visit again.

Initial impressions of this resort were: ok, how far are we from the main facilities? These early concerns are soon dispelled though, thanks to the excellent on demand shuttle service. Much of the charm of this place is the setting - right at the base of the Arenal volcano and obviously benefiting greatly from the fertile souls afforded by the location. The grounds are beautiful and the range of pools - from super hot springs to rainwater pools are fantastic for adults and children alike. The staff were friendly and helpful and although the breakfast is not a standout feature, it is more than fair for the price. The restaurants evening ambitions are probably a bit too aspirational for the property, but there is always the bar. It rained for most of our stay and the volcano never fully revealed itself, but that did not matter. The wildlife here was mind blowing and we regularly saw peccary's wandering around. For the money this place is an absolute gem.

Decent enough hotel in a great setting with volcano views. We booked it as we wanted to experience the hot springs at a cheaper price point and this place delivered. Staff were generally friendly, aside from one unpleasant experience. The hotel was bigger than I anticipated but the complementary shuttle was very handy. Food was edible but not special (I guess reflected in the reasonable price). All in all a fun base to explore beautiful Arenal.

Amazing stay at Los Lagos. Beautiful grounds with fabulous hot springs and pools. Even during busy Spring Break time it didn’t seem too crowded. Pools are open until ten and many are covered in the event it rains (and it does often). There are also posted rules for the pool and hot springs but there are no lifeguards to enforce them so you could end up with a hot spring full of screaming kids splashing but there is enough of a variety to move around and try out different pools. Swim up bar was fun and the 2 water slides were crazy fun! Delicious buffet breakfast was included. We also had lunch there that was great and bar food by the pool was also good (really good bacon cheeseburger). Our room was far from the pools but we had a great view of the volcano and lots of cool wildlife to watch from our back porch. Saw horses, peccaries, and cool birds. The shuttle was super easy to use and picked us up from our room and dropped us at the pool, restaurant or front lobby. We booked the canopy tour and horseback ride through the hotel and it was so easy since they are located on property. Both amazing tours I highly recommend. Prior to our stay we were talking via email with the front desk and we they were very responsive. The hotel was also a short Uber ride from downtown La Fortuna (not really walkable). Also we never needed Costa Rican money. Everyone accepts US dollars.

The grounds are beautiful, the rooms were very large and clean, the breakfast was delicious, and the hot springs and swimming pool area were both beautiful and enjoyable. The water slides into the natural water pool were were so fun for the kids! The pictures on the website don’t capture the beauty of this resort. I highly recommend—especially for families with kids.
