My husband and I stayed at Hotel Bijagua for 3 nights in February 2020 and had a wonderful time. We found this hotel to be an oasis as soon you entered through the gates. We only have pro’s from our stay: - The pool and lounge area are beautiful and relaxing - The room was comfortable and spacious. There is an A/C unit, but we preferred to sleep with the fan on and the windows open. The sound of the rain every night was so relaxing. - Breakfast was excellent. It was made fresh and there were three options: “Typical” Costa Rican, American, and Fruit/Yogurt - The location is perfect. There is a grocery store next door. North Fields Coffee Tour is only about 3 minutes away by car. The La Fortuna waterfall is only about 10-15 minutes away by car (easy to get there early to beat the crowds) and the Red Frog Cafe is right next door. - Above all, the people who ran the hotel, Julio and Karen, were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Julio helped us arrange for the nighttime frog watching tour at nearby Arenal Oasis Wildlife Refuge. He also provided us with nearby recommendations, like Mirador El Selencio hiking trail, to view the volcano instead of the more popular 1968 Trail. Thank you, Hotel Bijagua!

This was a great place to stay. The gates open up onto the main road, it's right beside a grocery store but it's still very quiet and tucked away. Breakfast, games room, book shelf to take/leave, a nice pool and a laundry room to use for free! (just buy your soap) no dryer though but plenty of place to hang laundry and clothes dry quick. After checking out and driving 2 hours down the road I realised I left an item behind. Quick call to the hotel, they confirmed they had it and several emails later arranged to have it sent on to our next hotel. So appreciative of this hotel! thanks for a great stay Julio! he also placed a call to book us an adventure at Mistica hanging bridges. Super helpful friendly guy. Loved it! Great showers as well! And beautiful birds to watch at breakfast time

What a pleasant surprise this hotel experience was. Karen, the hotel manager, is simply amazing. The hotel serves a scrumptious breakfast every morning. The location is perfect. Next door to the hotel is a supermarket, which is great because the room we stayed in cake with a full kitchen. The hotel is surrounded by delicious restaurants that are all within walking distance. For those of you who are traveling with younger kids, I definitely recommend Hotel Bijagua. Can’t wait to go back!!

Clean, convenient & close to everything. Juan at the front desk was the BEST, he helped us with local tips, places of interest, booking, etc, which it being my first time visiting Costa Rica was super helpful and much appreciated! Breakfast was tasty & filling, room and bathroom were both kept very clean. It’s a little outside of downtown but we liked that and it has plenty of nice places for food/drinks within a stones throw. Really made for a great introduction to the “pura vida” lifestyle, highly recommend.

We only stayed here one night, but it was great for what we needed. We had a suite with a little kitchenette, so we could cook the kids pasta. The kids had a pool (which was pretty noisy and filled with kids when we were there), and town was only a few minutes drive away. The lady on reception was so friendly and helpful, always with a big smile! It seemed mostly to be other Costa Ricans here on their Spring holiday, and it seemed like a lovely place where families might come back to time and time again. It's a little far out of town if you don't have a car, but that wasn't an issue for us. There's a cafe/restaurant next door that has loads of great reviews, but we really didn't rate the food. Beds were comfortable, and we had a little bench outside the room to sit on too. There were three different breakfast options, which was great! We just had fruit, yoghurt and toast, but you could have the traditional Costa Rican option, or an 'American Breakfast".
