My wife and I stayed at the Aunty Arenal lodge for 3 nights. We arrived after midnight due to an accident blocking the road. Much to our relief they had waited up to check us in. This was very much appreciated after our long trip from the uk. You get a local Costa Rican breakfast in a nice outdoor area with humming birds hovering close by. Plenty of hot water. Few minute walk to some bars and restaurants which can get dark. Sum up, not luxurious but does what it says on the tin, in good location and friendly staff. Very happy with our stay.
530 to 630am rooster wakeup, or 7am no drapes wakeup , old spring beds .... Sorry for the bad review but we couldn't sleep both nights. 530am rooster that screams till 630am (they should warn you about), old spring soft mattress, no window drapes so daylight hits you at 630am,1 inch space under door for cockroaches to come in,, no WiFi in our room which was half way down the hallway .... The host was nice though
This is a lovely little hotel for family or singles, a bit off the beaten path so no traffic noises or worries. The front desk "aunty" is very helpful and can recommend local places to visit. The rest of the staff are friendly and helpful too, though it helps to know a little Spanish. Full breakfasts, nice rooms and surrounding natural area, pool.
We had a very large room for the family with a small kitchen, there is a swimming pool and very nice gardens, There is a very nice family ambiance there, The hotel is in very nice conditions and they have been working hard to make it better, Highly recommended.
I'm staying here now. It's an utter disaster. First of all, definitely good value for the money but do not have an expectation of a comfortable night's sleep. Yes good space for family, but moms and dads will want a comfortable bed after a day with kids and these are rock hard and paper thin. Width of my 4 fingers. I've been on the couch attempting to sleep for 2 nights. No water pressure. Water will randomly turn off. And pipes scream so my 5 year old screams from fear in the bathroom! In rainy weather, power flickers off and on. Our outlets by the bed don't work so charging our phones from a ceiling outlet. Its got the basic necessities... feels like glamping.. everyone says service is great. I haven't had much interaction with staff but they whatsapped us and were helpful booking tours at great rates and changed out room when the first one had a broken AC unit. Basically get what you pay for. We were out all day so needed just beds But, don't expect vacay style rest when using it as a spot to just sleep.…
We loved our stay at Aunty Arenal Lodge! The staff was so kind and friendly. They were also so helpful with any questions we had. We felt safe and it was quiet. They also made us a homemade breakfast every morning. We highly recommend staying here.
The owners are so accommodating. They went above and beyond for us. For the price we couldn’t have asked for more. If you’re looking for an Americanized hotel. This is not it. There are more expensive ones that you could get. But the service here is incredible. Aunty made me and my boyfriend cake for our last day. We got upgraded when someone cancelled. It was amazing.
On arrival we were wellcomed very friendly but the guy did not speak very good English. Luckily we understood each other. We were really dissapointed when we got out room. It was very tiny for 3 persons - actually a bedroom for 2 in which they had put an extra bed. The bathroom was too tiny - you could hardly turn around and we killed 2 cockroadges. Not my kind of place. IN the lovely garden there were a few bungalows which were not booked. So I wonder why we were not offered to stay in there. The garden was lovely with a cold and a hot pool. Breakfast was poor. The location was OK, close to a few nice restaurants We made the best of it but would not recommend the place. The area was not very special either. We had a nice walk in the Arenal area but have seen lots of nicer places in Costa Rica…
We spent 3 nights at Aunty Arenal. I can rave about aunty- she was so helpful, kind, friendly, and accommodating. Her houses are basic; but clean and great for families that want to have a kitchen/cook. Her pool is well maintained and clean.
Our first surprise was the reception we received at arrival, it was late and dark when we arrived and we were both exhausted from a very long mountainous drive. Our hostess, was so kind and and once she realized how tired and hungry she cooked us a meal which was so totally unescorted. The next morning she new we had an early pick up for our tour of Arenal, so she had offered an earlier breakfast. The second surprise was breakfast by the pool. To reach the pool you walk through a beautiful garden to a week hidden pool complete with spa and waterfall. Breakfast is typical Costa Rican fair. The reason for the 3 stars is if you are expecting a Holiday Inn type of hotel, this is not it. The rooms are spacious and clean but sparse.
