Cozy small hotel to explore around. Very helpful and polite staff. Lots of plants to see and touch, to have a trail nearby would be fantastic though. The pool itself is not that small, but the area around it could get crowded. Typical breakfast was very delish and full of a little bit of everything.
The grounds are exquisite. You feel that you are in a tropical paradise, with lots of birds including a hummingbird feeder. The rooms are basic, but clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Catarata is in a quiet and beautiful location out of the very touristy town of La Fortuna, though it is too far to walk, so only consider if you have a car. Our room was spacious and clean and the shower was great. There are hairdryers and decent AC. The pool was lovely - it is surrounded by trees, and there are many types of birds flying around as you swim. Staff were very friendly and helped us arrange a massage nearby with no bother. There are 3 decent breakfast options (plus fruit) and service is speedy. The site is really well maintained, and they have small signs on some of the plants with their names which was a nice touch.
We staied for two nights. The cabinas were very nice and clean. The garden is very nicely arranged and attracts a lot of birds, from colibri to tucan. We made a mistake and walked from the bus terminal to the lodge. It is some three kilometers. When you have lugage you better take a taxi for 3000 colon. The breakfast was ok but we had better on our trip in Costa Rica.
My friends and I spent 3 nights at Catarata Eco Lodge and really enjoyed it. The grounds are beautiful and the staff was very friendly. We spent most of our time in the town or off on adventures, but it was a comfortable place to come back to. I do wish there was another mirror, or more lighting, as 4 girls getting ready at the same time in one room was a little difficult at times. The hammock outside our door was a nice touch. The birds in the morning were very loud, but not a terrible alarm clock as we needed to get up early every day anyway. My favorite part was breakfast! They have a few good options, good coffee, and the bird watching was great. We even saw a sloth!
I have stayed here at Catarata a fee times already and can say that I am always pleased with the attention received. The rooms are super clean, bed is very comfortable and the food at the restaurant is excellent. I will most definitely be back. Johan
We loved our stay at the eco lodge, it was the perfect place to call 'home' for the four nights we stayed in La Fortuna. The rooms were comfortable and clean, cabin style with a little front porch and hammock which was a nice touch. The pool is beautiful and we were able to see birds of prey, toucans, hummingbirds and tons and tons of tanagers. Breakfast is especially great for bird watching as the hotel has a tree in the garden which they hang fruit from. Every morning we enjoyed beautiful woodpeckers and 6 different types of tanager feasting from it. Lovely hotel staff always there to help with anything and a night guard after 10pm so we felt very safe. It was noisy with animals at night and rained a lot throughout the night so we didn't sleep amazingly but through no fault of the hotel. You can walk into the town which is handy, it takes about 35 minutes so do it before dark. Taxis into the centre cost us no more than $5 each way so still okay. Very good for access to the waterfall which we walked to, be prepared for a sweaty uphill climb but well worth it when you go in and make your way down to the waterfall for a swim. Lovely stay we were very happy spending a few days there relaxing and seeing the surrounding sights.…
We found this a delightful simple resort in beautiful natural gardens with a wonderful variety of plants and birds. Simple clean accommodation very helpful staff. A nice little restaurant.5 minute drive into town.clean room large beds hot shower veranda with hammocks . We are here for a week and it.is ideal.
Close enough to town, but quiet. TONS of birds and even howler monkeys. Room was nice, a little tired and in need of general freshening. The a/c unit was a surprise- did not expect that- and we were comfortable. For the money, was a good value. Breakfast was delicious- cannot beat the "tipico with fried eggs."
Slightly outside town on the way to Cataras Waterfall. Good basic accommodation with air conditioning, showers and hammocks and clean rooms. Beautiful gardens with lots of plants and birds (we saw a number of hummingbirds). Good breakfast, laundry facilities available and staff were very helpful. Small pool which our kids enjoyed. Good value for money.
