Really enjoyed this hostel. Its located in a great place. Very busy and a great place to socialise (with activities offered). The staff were very friendly, especially the receptionist. The hostel also offers a view of the river. The resident iguanas were also great fun!
I’m not used to posting bad reviews but this is an exception. The room we were given was 6 bed for our family of 5 with bathroom. On the website these room type are made to look light, airy and clean with a reasonably modern and clean bathroom. Ours was the opposite. Very dark. Right on the main road with heavy trucks and motorbikes all night. Disgustingly dirty with nail clippings in the bed frame. Toilet brush with no holder on the floor of the bathroom (which stank) when we arrived. No hot water tap on the sink. Aircon ducting vibrated so loud through the wooden ceiling that we couldn’t have it on and even then the aircon from the room next door did the same so we barely slept an hour all night. Open slatted window in the bathroom meant we had mosquitoes to deal with on top of everything else. I’ve backpacked though plenty of places including s. America and this was truly an awful room to be in especially with kids. Not what they advertise themselves as at all. We were due to stay 3 nights but asked for money back and moved elsewhere after the first. At $200 a night for the room I feel this is a disgrace. Breakfast included but orange juice watered down with 50% water and what tasted like instant coffee - in Costa Rica?? Oh, and buying a beer at the bar will cost you pretty much double what you’d pay anywhere else. Avoid. If you can’t avoid then avoid room 120.…
My room was invested with FLEAS (!!) i got the bite marks and all. Got switched to a 6 pers. dorm but no monetary compensation for the EXTRA LAUNDRY , BUG SPRAY and the fact that I paid almost $100/night for 1 night in the flea (tipi) room and 2 in a 6 person dorm. NO COMPENSATION because the charge was already done?? The funniest thing is that when i started complaining about the fact that i couldn't sleep with the bugs crawling over me (didnt realise what bug yet) is that THE ONLY solution they could come up with is making me pay $50/night extra (so $100 total) so they could move me to a suite.... Nice business model to make money but terrible for returning guests!!! I had to ask for a bed in a shared dorm myself (!) Honestly my most uncomfortable hotel/hostel stay ever. This is supposed to be semi luxurious so I was willing to pay almost $100/night for a great experience. Ended up with a contaminated suitcase, stressful experience, and extra expenses to get rid of this.…
Selina at La Fortuna was by far my favorite Selina when it came to staff, the layout, and the yoga. I stood at 5 different Selena’s during my 14 day stay in Costa Rica and La Fortuna set the standard of excellence. Gustavo, the bartender made my trip amazing with excellent service every single day - making it feel like home along with Monse, the Yoga teacher is super dedicated to the space and provided amazing yoga and meditation sessions as well as head stand workshops and sound healing which started my mornings off amazingly. Definitely returning next summer!
The place is very clean, people are nice and welcoming. Guests are young and the bar area is very lively with music all the time. The restaurant is also very good, with healthy options and not expensive.
Stayed in Costa Rica for a month and stayed here for two weeks. It was honestly the best Selina we stayed in, the room, the cowork area, the bathrooms, kitchen and communal areas were always kept incredibly clean and organized. We were lucky enough to have met Yendry and Marylin who kept our room and surrounding spaces in excellent condition and were incredibly friendly and always helped us out when needed. Everyone at the reception including Laura, Alejandra and Anielka were also very welcoming and were always looking out so we could have the best experience. The wifi all across the Selina was superb and I was able to take meetings and calls all over the place with no problem at all. A superb experience thanks to all the staff and people we met here. The activities and noise volume were always adequate so would definitely come back here. Congratulations for making this stay an incredible one!…
We got lucky with the deal but still overpriced. Stayed in tepee which is normally $85 plus but got it for $44 but I still think it’s way too much. Very very small, no air conditioning, if you were to pay $85+ you would expect a private bathroom aswell but that is not the case. Shared bathrooms are not private at all - shower doors you can easily see over if you’re over 5’6 and water temp very inconsistent. Shared kitchen way too small for the number of people staying here. Pool was quite nice and the decor of the hostel is cool it’s just so so expensive for what it actually is.
Amazing place if you don’t plan to sleep lol! Booked a private room for 4 for our family and I didn’t like it whatsoever : no privacy as it was on thé way across from the communal kitchen and absolutely NOT quiet with people yapping super early am up to late night in that open kitchen. This explains why they gave us so many earplugs smh! Then thé bar played loud music with deep bass until past 11pm. There were 4 bunk beds -that looked like concentration camp ones- and a full bed. Anyhow it’s great for single young travelers that travel alone and can sleep for cheap in any condition. That’s not me lol!
I can’t say enough amazing things about this hostel/hotel. I will never stay anywhere else when traveling if there is a Selina nearby. I stayed in a suite with my friend. The cleanliness was excellent. The room smelled amazing and had chic decor. Everything was spotless. The overall vibe of Selina is so welcoming. When you stay here you feel as if you are part of the family. The food was excellent, especially the breakfast fruit bowls. We got smoothies a couple mornings which were delicious. Cocktails were all delicious (esp the mango margarita!). I can’t say enough about the staff- all super helpful, welcoming, and friendly. Shoutout to Gustavo, Wayner, and Tiffani for making our stay extra special. There’s also always so much to do at Selina’s- yoga, drink/paint, sound therapy, etc- you could never leave the Selina and have an amazing trip!…
I had no idea the Selina hotel brand existed until this trip and we enjoyed it so much I don’t think I can stay in any other hotel without wishing I was at a Selina. The room was very clean, work space was amazing, staff helpful and friendly, amazing food and drinks, I could go on forever. We felt like we were home when there. They have activities everyday all day. We did a workout class one morning for free in a beautiful open air room overlooking a river. Just overall a wonderful experience.
