I recently stay this hotel and notice that taxi could not drive front of hotel due Nanjing road construction work.
Hotel is neat, room is quite nice and neat. Only problem was that layout of room is wide open, which mean that bathroom is basically same space with bed.
Breakfast was quite Chinese style with some small touch of western food.
Location is excellent especially if you came as tourist to Shanghai. Bund street is only few minutes walk away, subway station is also close by.
If you plan to stay at this hotel, ask room not beside of road, construction work can be noisy even at middle of night.
Small con about rooms, i booked non smoking, which i got. But when i enter to room, it was so smell because smoking (room was in non smoking floor as well). So i need go back to reception and ask new room. Second attempt was good....

Great location, staff were happy to helps don a good selection of English speakers. We had a tour guide but felt confident and welcomed enough to explore by ourselves after the tour. Nice food market nearby to grab dinner.

The best thing about this hotel is its location on Nanjing East Road. Some of Shanghai's favourite attractions are within walking distance such as the Bund and Yu Yuan district. People's Square takes about 15 minutes to walk, and Jing'an Temple is probably best reached by subway. The city and the Pearl Oriental tower is one station east. The subway is simple to use and buying a travel card which works on buses and trains is sensible.

The rooms are moderately large and reasonably well appointed with comfortable beds, a television, kettle, safe, and a mini bar fridge. There is both a bath and a separate shower. The air conditioning is quiet and easily adjustable. The wifi seemed to be fast and easily set up. There was a small gymnasium but no other facilities. I did not use the restaurant or bar as Nanjing Road's cornucopia was so close. The staff were excellent and helpful.

The biggest issue was the room position. Many of the rooms appear to face a very small internal courtyard which is dark, so there is no natural light in the room. However, the room was very quiet given the proximity to the main road. Other than that, I have no serious complaints other than my fridge did not work.

To get to the hotel from Shanghai Pudong airport, take either subway line 2 all the way with one platform change (can be busy), or take the Maglev to Longyang Road, then change to subway line 2. Exit 7 at Nanjing East station is best for the hotel. Tip: watch out for electric scooters using the pavements, they are silent and fast.

Had arrived at the hotel around 2230 from the airport. They showed me a room, at dead end of the corridor, with no window. I refused to take it. Their argument was that I did not specify that I required a room with a window. After two hours of negotiations and waiting, I finally got a room, presumably upgraded, to a room with a window. She said that it was their junior suite.

Hence, please next time, don't forget to mention that you require a bed, shower, toilet, air conditioner, bedsheet, pillow, comforter. Otherwise, who knows, you will have to stand and sleep!

Also, their breakfast is terrible. Don't wast your money. About 8 minutes walk, from the hotel, there is a very nice coffee shop, forgetting it's name, on Jiangsu Road, close to the metro station. Their coffee is good, their omelette is good, too. Try it out.

Booked 2 nights in this hotel in April, after the Grand Prix weekend, via Booking.com .
The hotel is just 10 mins walk from East Nanjing Station on Metro Line 2, which runs directly to Pudong Airport, or change at Longyang Rd if you wish to take the Maglev. We easily managed it with a large suitcase,

Our room was on the 7th floor. Disappointingly, our room was not external-facing. The view out of the window was of a small, shabby interior courtyard. This was a bit of a letdown as I had booked many months in advance and requested a high floor with a street view. But hey-ho, I guess we didn't go to Shanghai to look out of a hotel window!

The bed was very comfortable indeed. However, the pillows were far too thin for my liking. Aircon in the room is excellent and quickly had the room cooled/heated to our preferences. There was no noticeable noise disturbance from inside or outside the hotel, and we slept soundly every night.

A fridge is provided to keep your drinks cool, and a modern kettle for boiling water for hot drinks or noodles. Strangely, there were no teaspoons provided - just a stirring stick! There is a large flat-screen TV on the wall, with a zillion channels in Chinese, but only one (CNN) in English! It was the same situation in all 3 hotels that we stayed in Shanghai- Luckily we didn't come here to watch TV! WiFi was totally & completely useless - also a common theme in the other Shanghai hotels we stayed.

Shower room and toilet are in seperate glass-walled rooms, whilst the washbasin is located outside these in the main bedroom. The shower had excellent water pressure and temperature. Good quality towels, bathrobes and slippers are provided.
Having stayed at other hotels in China (even 5-star) that do not have a bidet hose we were most impressed by the multi-function toilet bidet - It was like something from the Starship Enterprise !!

The hotel is excellently located for taking a stroll along the Bund taking photos. Just 5 minutes and you are on the bund right next to the entrance to the 'sightseeing' (ahem-ahem!) tunnel under the river. Also right next to he hop-on/off bus stop, and close to the ferry terminal.
One annoyance on this street (no fault of the hotel) is the number of chancers / con-men who leap out on you every 5 mins "you want shopping? you want shopping? I take you". .. Do not entertain these people, just walk on by.....

We didn't take the hotel breakfast, as they tend to be overpriced in China. There is a Subway, Costa Coffee, and Starbucks if you walk down to the bund (5 mins); Also a McDonalds and other options if you walk up the road towards the shopping area/metro station (10mins). There is also a Family Mart for drinks and snacks if you turn right along Sichuan Middle Road (next road up on the right, 5 mins).
There are two banks directly opposite the hotel and the ATMs accepted my Malaysian-issued Amex and Visa cards for cash withdrawals with no problems at all.

Comfortable and problem-free stay. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Response from Christopher S, Manager at Jinjiang Metropolo Hotel Classiq Shanghai Off Bund
Responded 24 Apr 2016
We appreciate all of your feedback and well thought out comments for other travelers visiting Shanghai and our MetroPolo hotel chain. Indeed this boutique hotel was designed into an office building just a couple years ago. As a result some rooms do face an internal atrium and not an outside street. Well as you said after an initial disappointment, you found no noises allowing for relaxing peaceful sleeping in our crisp white linens, a chance to rekindle after the F1. Flat pillows annoy me too, so we will make an extra check this week for replacement. Good location for metro and Pudong Airport and Nanjing shopping street and the infamous Bund. Seems you bravely did it all. International TV stations are a challenge for us. Where many hotels can pirate illegally at reasonable prices, as we are government owned #1 midscale hotel chain this is not an option to us and the channels are all controlled or very expensive. This will change in time. I apologize, but SH is way too exciting to stay in your room - right? For daily news we do have English language newspapers at the cafe. Ah the cafe and your comments about over priced breakfasts, let me address. MetroPolo features the eats-meats-west-breakfast-buffet from congee to croissants and I believe it is excellent value for money at all our properties. At Chatters Cafe here Off Bund the charge now is just CNY 78 for all you can eat, superb value for money. Poor wifi is not always a problem so we will need to check your room location and routers. You know the Chinese really don't use tea spoons, but something to consider in future guest room budgets. The showers are refreshingly good and the toilets are Japanese design - I am told the ladies love them. We have 40+ hotels in China and opening two new Classiq boutiques this summer in SH. Come back and see us.

Revamped old hotel into a modern set-up accommodation with well designed room inclusive of fancy automated toilet seat. Great location within 40 meters from Shanghai The Bund promenade and 3 blocks away from East Nanjing–Shanghai pedestrian shopping district.
Only breakfast buffet needs improvement to offer more menu options for foreigners.

We have stayed two nights in Metropolo hotel. The location was perfect right in the middle of Nanjing pedestrian road. The area is great for walking and sightseeing. Less than 10 mins walk to Bund area.

The room is nicely decorated and had all amenities except toothbrush and toothpaste. It had a safe box, fridge, and hairdryer but no Ironing facilities.

So there are some minor points that I hope management can address before our next visit.
First of all the room didn’t have a good sound insulation. Every night we had a bit of trouble sleeping as the room was facing the road and due to many eateries around the noise level was rather high till 2 am.

The second point for the management to note is the skills of the front desk staffs. We had a bit of difficulties in talking to them in English. I would expect for an international hotel right in the heart of Shanghai the staffs could speak English at least for simple communication but to our surprise they couldn’t and we had to use google translate for everything.

Overall given the hotel’s perfect location and clean rooms and value for money I would recommend it to those who prefer a great location within walking distance to Shanghai’s famous attractions.

I usually give positive rating unless really bad.

1) Hotel did not respond to my requests (made during booking earlier) on Agoda at all.

2) Hotel double-charged me for the room upgrade!

3) Staff at lobby was not professional in the service. Lack of due attention.

4) No email at hotel website to facilitate ease of correspondence.

Hotel is not recommended.

I was in Shanghai on Business so decided to stay close to the Bund for a change. The Metropolo was very nice and the rooms were well appointed and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with a variety of western and asian options. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Tip: be careful walking around the area if anyone approaches you...nanjing road and the bund are legendary for scammers approaching people and wanting to take you somewhere.

The location is just a 3 min walk from the Bund, 6 mins walk to the East Nanjing Road subway and East Nanjing Road. You can also walk to Yuyuan Garden and Shanghai Museum, People's Square. But it will take about 15 mins. The hotel is very tastefully decorated. The room we had had a bathtub, a separate shower area and a separate washroom. The WC uses electronic bidet. The walls of the room were thick and we were totally insulated from the sounds at the corridor. Wifi was stable. We struggled a little with the room heating control. Can't seem to get it right, even when the staff helped us. So it was a little too warm. The staff were polite but not overly friendly. We felt very secure because the room card can only access the floor that you are on. And the door man will escort all guests to the lift to ensure they are a valid guest.

Getting to the train and subway then hailing a taxi is a nuisance if you have lots of luggage. The hotel will get you a taxi to pick you up. Get the hotel to fix a price for you as some cab drivers can charge more than others even with a meter. We paid 180 rmb to get from the hotel to pudong in June this year. This was for two people and 4 pieces of luggage. To us the convenience was worth it. The trip takes between 50 and 60 minutes.
