Stayed in end December for 2 nights in Studio room. MRT is just across the road from hotel. Walking distance to YuYuan Garden and YuYuan old street. Good location. Didn't realised it's their culture that during winter they turn off aircon and turn on heater. As the hotel had no windows that can be opened, my room was hot and stuffy. Had to ask staff for help. The maintenance guy help to turn off the heater function, no more hot air but also no cool air just normal room temperature air. House keeping staff help to bring in a fan for me. Great staff providing great service to my need, but I still didn't get good night sleep cause the room is not cool enough for me (sleep without blanket yet still sweat a bit during sleep). Hope the hotel will consider having some rooms with air conditioner for guest who prefer cool temperature during winter.

We stayed in the club room during our trip to Shanghai. We picked this hotel as we couldn't get a family room in the ssaw boutique hotel which we stayed at during our last trip to Shanghai.

The hotel is tucked away and you probably won't notice it driving by, however this works well as it backs onto a shopping district with good eataries, gold market, general shopping.

The rooms are fantastic and very comfortable. Bathrooms are exceptionally clean with good amenities and good water pressure. Beds were OK, not the most comfortable we have slept on as it was a bit too hard.

Staying in club level we had option to eat breakfast at club level or downstairs in the general dining Area. We found the general dining had more options and greater variety. The afternoon snack and happy hour in club room was OK as the food was repetitive and not the best. However for the small fee you pay to be at club level it is definitely worth it.

We were pleased with how well the staff spoke English. They were always willing to help and brought with them the fantastic Chinese service with the biggest smile.

Giving 4 stars as the club room food could be better, however if you are looking to be close to bund district and shopping this is a fantastic place to stay. Taxi rides from hotel to Nanjing road was also very cheap plus hotel is directly next to the metro if your willing to give that a go.

Old Yet Resilient. Still a Great Value Choice for Travel in Shanghai. While the room structure and size may not match those of newly opened hotels, with lower ceilings and slightly less airy spaces, the in-room facilities are well-maintained and free from any significant signs of aging. The hotel's location is excellent, situated in the heart of Shanghai's main tourist area. It's very convenient to visit attractions like Nanjing Road, Yu Garden, and The Bund, with easy access to nearby subway transport. The hotel's service standards have not diminished despite its prime location, maintaining a high level of quality. The executive lounge has reopened, offering a diverse selection of afternoon tea and breakfast options. Highly recommended.

Overall the service level was excellent and the facilities were good albeit probably needs some work. The pool and gym both were very good and well maintained.

The hotels well placed near Yu Garden and a pleasant walk to the Bund.

My 2 rating comes from the fact the place is going through a refurb and only one restaurant was open - no bar was open and only the basic restaurant.

Rooms are a little dated and we did upgrade ourselves but couldn't see how they were any different from a standard room. We also asked for two rooms and twice asked for connecting rooms but sadly that came on deaf ears. So we had rooms about 10 rooms apart.

I was also meeting a friend and we decided to have a drink in the restaurant. After being given a very extensive beer menu we were told they only had one beer available and there were only three cold ones.

The other bad point was the breakfast which was really disappointing after I'd read about a good mix of western and Chinese options. I'm pretty sure that the low number of western tourists now, means the western breakfast is now not really provided. We saw the odd sausage and bacon on some days and some of the usual continental breakfast options but if you wanted a traditional cooked western brekkie this hotels NOT providing it. Now I'm also very open to Chinese breakfasts as well so don't get me wrong Ill eat other food types. In fact the congee and yum cha options got me quite excited but there again I was disappointed with Luke warm congee and dumplings that were pretty poor quality. The fried bread that comes with congee was also rubbery and poor tasting.

Still after all this I may come back once the refurb has been done and if I start seeing quality breakfast improvements. Till then I'll look for other places to stay.

I experienced great service during my stay: many staff members went out of the way to enhance customer satisfaction. The cleaning person offered extra coffee capsules, seeing that I used them often. A room change request was promptly processed. What I am most grateful for, though, was how the hotel handled an item left behind the room when I checked out in haste. The hotel emailed me to let me know of the lost item, then assigned a staff member (Vicky) to communicate with me via Wechat to arrange courier service that delivered the item from Shanghai to Beijing. Vicky helped monitor courier pick up of the item even during her hours off. Indeed, I felt guilty because it seemed the staff members were over-working. Overall, I appreciated both the diligence and the organization of the entire staff team.

I had a wonderful 7 day stay in Shanghai and I would like to hereby acknowledge the fantastic assistance received from Mr. Lefteris Pavlidis. Mr Pavilidis manages the Food & Beverage Department at the Hotel. Efficient, extremely friendly, attentive and highly willing to help the hotel guests however he can. This Greek gentleman, who speaks Russian, German, English and Chinese, besides Greek, created a Language and cultural bridge for me in China. He helped me with top notch services recommendations and to overcome the challenging internet access service in China. I followed his touristic tips, which did not replicate what is stated in the several panflets available at the Concierge desk. Based on his personal experience as a foreigner in Shanghai, he gave me valuable referrals and indications. He made alll the difference in my trip to this country I had never planned to visit (came here on business). And now I am enchanted with China and planning to come back in the near future. Mr. Pavlidis is a 7 star employee of the Renaissance Shanghai Yu Garden Hotel, who is a true team player, taking care of those under his command and stepping in whenever a customer needs help because one of the Chinese members of the Team was unable to comprehend a guests request or for any other reasons. It seems he possess 360 degree vision. Nothing escapes his monitoring of the very busy breakfast restaurant. Outstanding. My deep felt thank you to Mr. Pavlidis for making my visit such a pleasant and easy experience despite my inability to utter a single word in Chinese!

I really enjoyed my stay! Staff was extremely kind and helpful. Especially the navigator who went out of his way to help me call customer service when I had problems with the power banks at the hotel entrance. Breakfast was awesome with endless choice. I loved the noodle robot. We also loved the room
Service robots! The room was great! The beds were the best. My only criticism would be a bit of a funny smell upon entrance but nothing an air freshener can’t fix. The pool and the view was incredible. I think the pool area could benefit from a little refresher but still we thoroughly enjoyed it! I only ate once at the restaurant on the first floor and was not particularly happy with the food and prices. But that doesn’t negatively impact my impression of the hotel. Lastly the location was really perfect!! Both for walking and taking the metro. Everything was within reach. I would 100% recommend this hotel and would choose it for future stays! Thank you to all the staff!

The service and help here was wonderful. We stayed for 5 nights in the heart of Shanghai with everything almost only a 20 minute walk away. The location is wonderful, only 15 minutes away from the Bund. The rooftop bar has amazing views and I definitely recommend heading up here for a drink.

There is a metro station right across that gives you access to line 10 and 14 which gets you to most attractions! Its incredibly convenient.

The room service, the friendliness of the staff at the entrance (Steven and Alan) was amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough for Shanghai! You cannot go wrong. They accommodated for 3 people in 1 room by adding a trundle bed and there was ample space for us. Check in was easy and seamless.

Good experience! Just have to avoid the breakfast crowd. Receptionists are all very helpful . In general all the services are very good and well train. Hardware need to upkeep.
Location is good, can walk to all major shopping area. I am impressed by the receptionist service, I told them I need something to take away for my early checkout at 5:30, and next morning they prepare for me a big breakfast for me to take away. I am impressed.
