The Hyatt on the Bund is in a great location and the views overlooking the river are spectacular. Unfortunately, the rooms are a little tired and there is a lot of construction in the area.

Getting to the Hyatt from either of Shanghai’s airports is fairly simple. From PVG I took a hotel car on a Monday afternoon which took about 45 minutes all in all. Arriving at the hotel you are greeted with a beautifully open concourse and check-in was completed swiftly.

I was upgraded to a premium room that overlooked the river and the Bund. The view both in the day and at night was absolutely spectacular and rivalled some of the best cityscapes I have seen on my travels. The rooms themselves, though are starting to show their age. Lots of dings in the wood with the shower and bathroom area looking dated. The shower was incredibly powerful though and will be sure to wake you up in the morning.

The hotel houses a bar at the very top which gets quite busy, so you may want to head up there early to get a seat. I didn’t spend a massive amount of time in the bar as I opted to take a short walk around the area and found some local bars that were accommodating to westerners.

The hotel gym was closed but they had a temporary gym setup in one of the business rooms. The hotel restaurant, particularly the tearoom was very pleasant and there were no issues ordering despite my novice Mandarin.

Overall, I would say this is a very decent business hotel that is reasonably priced and I would happily stay here again.

We had a great stay at Hyatt on the Bund back in January. We were given a room on a high floor in the same tower as the Club Lounge. The view of the river and the Shanghai skyline was beautiful from our room. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was helpful, especially at the front desk. The construction across the street didn't disturb us at all, most likely because we were on a higher floor.

We had access to the Club Lounge, and the breakfast had a decent selection and was a nice way to start each morning. The gym was functional and not crowded.

The location is about a 10-minute walk to The Bund, and it is not located near the Metro. You'll have to take a taxi to just about anywhere.

I have been staying at the Hyatt on the Bund for about six years now. It has become my go to hotel in Shanghai. I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt across the river and Andaz near Hua Hai Road, but they don’t measure up in terms of total experience.

This most recent ten-day stay was most fabulous. We opted to redeem Hyatt suite upgrade to the Bund Suite for this long stay. The West Wing views are spectacular. Our suite had the panoramic views of both the Bund and Pudong New Area. It would be great if I can select to stay in room on the West Wing, but it does not look like being an option at booking.

Location is also this property’s strong point, it is within waking distance to all the hot spots without the crowds and noises near the hotel.

Aroma restaurant and Bund Club are both great in terms of food offerings and services. Gym is nice and big with lot’s equipment.

Well done!
This is definitely a Grand Hyatt level property without having the Grand Hyatt name. It is definitely provide a better experience than staying at the Shanghai Grand Hyatt across the river.

We stayed for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we heard so many great reviews we decided to stay here. Sadly I was a little disappointed overall with the hotel. Please see below the pros and cons.
Pros:
High floor so fantastic view, one of the best!
Late check out
Friendly staff
Free car parking
Buffet breakfast was great and diverse
Big clean gym
Nice pool
Good sauna, cold plunge pool, jacuzzi

Cons:
First room we checked in smelt of tobacco, but we changed to another room
Second room was better but it smelt a little moldy. We couldn’t be bothered to move again.
One wall had a damp patch which caused the mold.
We had the river view facing the Bund but had a construction site below so the cranes obstructed the view which was a shame.
Had to pay for toothbrushes and toothpaste so bring your own toiletries
Bedding could have been better
Female steam room didn’t work
Run down hotel with some leakage and damp ceilings, these should be fixed.
We called up the night before to request for gluten free bread for breakfast next morning but on the phone staff did not understand so my husband didn’t get the gluten free next morning.
Had a pleasant stay but as a 5 star international hotel I would have expected more.

Good location but construction work outside the hotel. We were not warned or informed. During our stay, the construction work were non stop, day and night, resulting poor sleep in the evening. We were going to extend one more night, but hotel staff were not helpful nor friendly, so we left and moved to nearby hotel who is far more tentative and better value for money

Especially given how bad business is, and even considering Shanghai doesn't allow disposable amenities in room (request only) the fact that a supposedly 5 star hotel ran out of powdered instant coffee (why are you even offering instant coffee??) and ear-buds/hygiene kit is really unbelievable.

Even more unbelievable is that a 5 star this run down AND with a massive construction project going on across the street could not warn us and continue to charge these unbelievable rates. We got a suite in a relatively new Intercon in a better location the following day for 30% less.

Outside windows were filthy, view was terrible as a result as the construction flood lights make your room feel like a stadium and the light reflects off the dirt. Besides the view you paid for and didn't get, the front desk staff never answered the phone, and breakfast was possibly the worst I've ever had at this price point, really very 3 star feeling ... I was honestly embarrassed to bring a guest the following morning, total loss of face.

In the room, the lights were impossible to figure out how to shut off or adjust correctly, carpets felt very dirty, and the room had a distinct smell to it. The room temperature was the biggest issue: there was no way to get the room to a comfortable temperature and we spent all night trying to fall asleep in the heat. Outside in the hall, it was the same story – as if the entire floor’s temperature control was broken but they were still putting guests in the rooms.

Enjoy your vacation, maybe try them again in 3 years when their renovation is done :(

We stayed here for one night before moving to another part of Shanghai.

Check in was a long wait. Two people only and the people before us took a really long time. By the time it was our check in turn there were easily twelve people behind us.

We checked in and had to pay a small amount for tax. Maybe 60 rmb. The clerk wouldn’t take cash from me and told me I could only use Alipay or Wechat pay. WHAT? Since when do supposed five star hotels don’t take legal currency ??? Luckily I could use my phone to pay even I didn’t want to.

Room was nice. On a high floor. Good view as always. Had the basic necessities- big tv. Safe. Bathtub. Shower. Etc.

THE NOISE on the other hand was terrible. Construction going on 24/7 across the street. Hotel gives you some ear plugs but forgetaboutit the noise is loud all night and wakes you up. Cranes and screeching and trucks making noise. All night. Then about 7-8am it goes to full blown noise.

Because of the construction noise I wouldn’t recommend to stay at the Hyatt on the Bund until this project is over. I didn’t have a good sleep at all and was happy that we had to leave at 11am to go somewhere.

Alright… let me give some context. I’m fortunate enough to be an Ambassador on Bonvoy, Globalist on Hyatt, Diamond on Hilton, and a Platinum elite on IHG this year so the family and I have stayed in some very nice places. This is our first year branching out to the world of Hyatt ( we generally just do Bonvoy properties -(Edition, Westin, ritz, st. Regis, etc..) . Also for context, we booked the Diplomat suite for 2 nights. All I can say is Wow. The room ( 2927) was great. The views are basically a 270 degree view of Shanghai. There’s a small balcony you can go out on to have a coffee. The room comes fully stocked with kitchen, full fridge, and decent cocktail bar ( Hennessy, absolut, Chivas, etc) and I mean full size bottles, not airplane size. In all our travel that was a first ( definitely beats the white wine or red wine comps we typically get as elites ) . So for the room… it was a WOW. For the lounge and facilities it’s nice. Good quality food and helpful staff. So all in all.. for us we rate a 5 to something like The Edition penthouse suite in Sanya, where you have your own rooftop yard ( not kidding) but this room in particular is a very solid 4! Hope this helps anyone reading this to feel confident in treating yourself to a night or two in the diplomat suite. Best .

I can unfortunately not recommend this hotel at the moment. It is completely surrounded by a huge construction site. It is even hard to physically get to the hotel, both by foot and taxi. The construction work goes on round the clock, and it is very noisy, so this was a really bad experience. I booked on the Hyatt web site, and there was no information to guests about this construction work. That could have been handled a lot better.
There are some positives though. The Vue Bar on the 32th floor is fantastic. The hotel gym is big and quite impressive. The rooms are large and comfortable, but the interior decoration is very dated, with dark brown colors. Definitely not my style! Do not book this hotel until the construction work outside has been completed.

This was my third stay over the last 14 days. You might avoid Friday and Saturdays as check in and check can take anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes. It was kind of like Disneyland - but at a hotel.
Overall, staff are cordial and people like Thomas at the front desk make the overall experience enjoyable!
