This hotel is located at the downtown district in shanghai, just 3 mins walk to the metro station, one stop to the railway station, three metro lines were there. At the ground in the building of the hotel, there're supermarket, KFC, Watsons and lots of restaurant.

The hotel was newly opened at the end of last year. Therefore, all facilities were absolutely new, the room was spacious. I had booked two rooms and have had for a 4 days stay with no regret. The hotel not only provided the usual equipment and goods as you expected in a room of a 4 stars hotel, but, many more you couldn't expect and very useful, such as: iron w/iron board, induction cooker w/basic kitchenware, microwave, washing machine w/dryer function (which was I like the most), umbrella, full set of personal care amenities etc.

The staff were friendly and helpful, although some of them seem still very fresh, not working very smoothly. But definitely, I could see that they were trying their best providing me what they could do the most.

After researching hotels', in Shanghai, I chose this hotel and I was not disappointed.

The Hotel is around 1 hour 45 minutes from Pudong International Airport by metro. You take Line 2 from the Airport to people's square and change to Line 1 and get off at North Zhonghan metro station, take exit 2, turn left out of the station and the hotel is a 4 minutes walk. At Pudong Airport at the metro station, at the Service Center, I purchased a metro card for the metro/buses for 20 yuan, then I topped it up with 30 yuan, it took around 7 yuan for the single journey from the Airport to North Zhonghan station. I was visiting the City for 9 days and I topped up a further 50 yuan, which included a return journey back to the airport and my journeys around the tourist spots around the City. When you top up the metro card, go to the service centers in the metro stations, you can't top up the card at the standard ticket machines. If you return the metro card to the service center at the airport, they will refund your 20 yuan.

The hotel is located around 15 minutes away on the metro from People's Square and other tourist spots around the City. The hotel is located in a nice area, with local shops closeby. There is a delicious bakery next door to the hotel, that sells delcious cakes, bread etc. KFC and a shopping mall a few minutes walk away, that has a large supermarket on the ground floor, there is a lady that has a nail bar on entrance to the supermarket, she did my nails shellac for 80 yuan, clothes stores, beauty spa, etc.

The hotel was as its pictures, clean and modern. I was allocated room 1709. It was a non smoking room, with a large king size bed, sofa, flat screen tv, large kitchenette, separate closet and large bathroom, which contained the LG washer dryer.
It was great. It was warm comfortable and very clean.
The staff were polite and professional, some speak little English but they always try and help or find a staff member that can converse with you in English.

Breakfast was included in my hotel plan. They had a selection of hot and cold options..Boiled or fried egg; bacon, sausage, fried rice, fruit, cereal etc.
I sometimes ate in the hotel restaurant in the evenings or ordered the food to take up to my room, as the kitchenette had a microwave. The food was nice and reasonably priced.( I would like to thank the restaurant manager for always being very helpful and translating the dishes for me in English.)

I really enjoyed my time at this hotel and look forward to returning in the future.

I booked the hotel for 2 reasons. 1) It was cheap. 460 yuans for 2 people including breakfast. 2) Because it was reviewed as being clean. A LOT of hotels in China are not clean. So this is my standard.

THE BAD STUFF
When we arrived at the hotel, the male receptionist was not just unfriendly, he was hostile. (A review on Agoda reviewed the desk staff as xenophobic and I think he may have been right.) I had specifically booked the hotel because it included breakfast. The hostile male receptionist told me our booking did not include breakfast.

The business centre is only accessible with a staff member unlocking the door. Remember to get the same staff member to log you into the PC.

Breakfast was meh. Not bad, not good. Buffet style. It appears that a full English is possible but the bacon/sausage/beans are low quality. The Chinese noodles are good. The full Chinese breakfast is possible as is a continental breakfast. There is a toaster and also cereals and juices. Coffee and tea are available.

THE GOOD STUFF
Big, clean room. TV, DVD, HDMI cable so you can stream movies, surround sound speakers everywhere. Sofa, coffee table, bay window, window seat. Kitchen/dining area. Table set for 2, rice cooker, hob, microwave oven, water filter tap (this is NOT standard in Chinese hotels), the usual kettle. (NOTE: No coffee/milk/limited tea. Take your own beverages). Lovely bathroom, most modern I've had in Shanghai. Upside, washing machine. Downside, no bath, only a shower. Nice, soft bed (also not standard in China).

In the morning, we went downstairs to sort out the breakfast problem. The xenophobic male receptionist wasn't there. A lovely, helpful young lady sorted it out for us. No problem at all.

I will definitely stay here again. Next time I'll print off my proof of booking information so I have proof of what I've booked.

NOISE
We were lucky. Our room was quiet. The rooms have double glazing so this blocks out the traffic noise, however the Chinese are LOUD. So you may end up with loud neighbours. We didn't.

AIR
The room didn't visibly have an air filter so we turned on the air con/heat. This seemed to clear the air well and we had no noticeable effects of pollution once inside.

GYM
We saw no gym and we looked. Possibly we missed it.

METRO
5 minute walk from North Zhongshan Road. Come out of exit 1. Turn left. Walk to the 4 road crossroads. Starr Hotel is on the corner on the opposite side of the road (to the right)

TAXI
Taxi to the city OR French Concession OR Hong Mei Lu (foreigner street) will cost approx. 400-500 rmb. After midnight taxis cost 30% more.

Stayed here for 3 nights during business trip in September 2017.
The location is very very good, just a few steps across the Zhongshan North Road Metro station which is only one station from Shanghai Railway Metro station. The hotel is surrounded by shops, cafe and restaurants.
Their spacious Deluxe Room comes with
1. Small kitchen (microwave, electric pot, electric stove, plates and cutlery is available) with tables and chairs for 2 people.
2. Clothes washing machine that will also dry your clothes so you will never have to worry about stinky damp clothes (I did try the machine with my clothes). They also provide washing powder.
3. Walk-in closet (iron and iron board provided in the closet)
4. Bathroom with rain shower, handled-shower and tap. No bathtub. Their towel and face towel is very new, thick and soft.
5. The working table with universal plug-in socket.
6. The home theatre!!
7. Wifi and broadband that CAN CONNECT TO GOOGLE, FACEBOOK AND LINE without using VPN!!!!
This is definitely good for long stay travellers.
The service is acceptably good and I would say outstanding for the housekeeping team as they are very attentive and friendly (which I could not find in other local hotels).

However, those who eat breakfast as the main meal for the day like me might find their breakfast not good for value. It is completely different from international chain hotels. Their breakfast is more like Chinese style no fried egg or scrambled egg or omelette or cheese. Luckily, there's a cafe with variety of bakery and coffee next to the hotel. :)

Overall satisfaction is 95% so I would definitely choose to stay here again in the future and would also recommend everybody who looks for an accommodation with good value.

This is a good service apartment for a long stay in Shanghai. Comfortable bed and room, clean, convenient location with shops and places to eat as well as public transports. Highly recommended and I will come for another long stay.

I booked through Tripadvisor three days before this stay.

-Check in literally took more than an hour - the staff had no idea how to process the Tripadvisor reference number.
Despite being presented with the Tripadvisor itinerary, they COULD NOT find my booking, so advised me to call Tripadvisor.

- I asked them to make the call, but Shirley at the front desk informed me that their hotel cannot make international calls.

- Using my own mobile to call Tripadvisor in USA, I discovered that the booking had been subcontracted to a company called Amoma.
- Tripadvisor then asked me to wait whilst they contacted Amoma.
- Amoma called about 20 minutes later and asked me to be patient while they “fix the issue”
- After another 20 minutes in the lobby with mosquitoes, a lady from hotel management arrived and arranged the check in.

-The room was great, however two small issues annoyed me;
1) Obsolete wifi instructions in the room - it is necessary to call reception for an access code which is changed daily.
2) Hot water for the bath seems to be restricted. After a certain point, it runs luke-warm - so I had 75% of a hot bath to relax in after the Tripadvisor-Amoma check-in saga.

Spent several nights here and it was a very welcome place to spend our nights and half a day when didn't stop raining.

Positives:
The room was very large with seperate kitchenette and dining table with cutlery and plates etc.

Washing machine in the bathroom which was easy to use as had English on the dials for entering wash programmes.

Large shower recess that had decent water presure and plenty of hot water.

Big bed with western quality soft comfortable mattress and crisp clean white linen.

Large supermarket in the same building complex as the hotel, literally a 2min walk along the outside of the building past KFC and a few Asian restaurants and you are there.

Metro station for line 1 approximately 600m down the road on the opposite side.

Breakfast foods were basic western fare of bacon, eggs, bread with jams and a toaster, cereals and milk with a wider selection of Asian dishes which we didn't sample but must of been okay as those who were eating them rarely left anything on their plates.

Negative
Kitchen had no items for cutting up ingredients. We decided to cook for ourselves as we wanted something simple and without the 200ml of oil that it seems every Chinese dish comes in. The lack of a sharp knife was explained as being "too dangerous" in the room. However, after a quick phone call we deposited our fresh produce to the staff in the kitchen on the second floor (the hotel restaurant) and after a brief game of charades all of our stuff was cut up for us. So while a negative for the room a plus for the hotel and it's staff.

Would definitely stay here again and recommend the place to friends visiting Shanghai as a good option when on a budget and happy to use the Metro to get to the centre of the action or the French Concession etc.

Take (Line 1) to North Zhongshan Rd . Get out Exit 2- West Zhijiang Rd. We have 2 big luggage so we need to take the lift. Walk pass the Security Check turn left there is a lift. Use the lift. Take to 2nd floor. Once outside the lift - Home Inn across the road. Walk across the zebra crossing. Turn left towards the main road walk till you pass the fruits shop on your right. Buy longan n mango very sweet.Starr Hotel in front. Along the same row you must try the delicious steamboat (green vegetables with beef, pork, chicken you can choose. Supermarket downstairs,KFC,Starbucks,Watson's, Paris Baguette Café,Chinese desert shop, 2nd floor hong Kong dim sum). Take note of the bathroom heater in the toilet its very useful to dry your cloths n bath towel. Very good channel and strong WiFi. Key in your room number and your name which you book the hotel n choose standard package n its free.

The hotel might not be in the "central" areas of Shanghai but has everything you need around it. Good local food options, supermarket, Starbucks, Paris Baguette, Watsons and even Banks (incld. international ATMs). The metro is also within 5min walk. It is also just 1 station away from the Daning shopping area as well as the Shanghai Railway Station.

The size of the room is excellent and the room has facilities like a studio apartment. Bed comfort is average for the price. Breakfast is pass-able, better than others in this price range.

The negatives will be a lack of lobby space and the room was a little bit dusty.

We booked this hotel, for 3 nights before our cruise, the hotel is quite far from the airport, but it is accessible by metro and taxi. The taxi took about 55 min t get there.
The hotel is kind of an apartment, so you have a little kitchenette, and there is also a washer, witch for us was the reason to book it, the room is big, and the internet, is great considering you are in China, and compare to other hotels in Shanghai where I stayed and the wifi was terrible. Near the hotel there is a metro stations 3 min walk, and there is banks to exchange money, as well local restaurant. So it is a typical area of China, but clean and safe. The hotel breakfast was good, some local variety, as well eggs, pastry, coffee. Good enough for us.The service at the reception was just great, anything you ask for, they will try their best to accommodate you.
Beds was comfortable and big enough for 2 people.
All in all great hotel and I recommend it to all

Sorry to take a long time. You can arrange something with the hotel but there is only 1 change in the metro from the airport and it's very cheap compared to other transport methods to the hotel. The metro station is 3 minutes from the hotel.
