A clean hotel with an excellent value due to its central location - minutes away (by foot) to People's Square, subway stops, and 10 mins walk to the Bund. A local contact booked us a large double room/suite on the 12th floor. We were more than pleased with the price (about 50EUR/night) for two spacious rooms, two bathrooms, and a balcony with a great view. We knew that the hotel was located directly on the main pedestrian strip and had asked specifically for a quiter room - indeed our lodging was very quiet. Although the hotel has a cafe and restaurant, go elsewhere for atmosphere. Staff can speak basic English. There is a business center (we did not use it) and laundry service for use of hotel guests. The hotel is really In the middle of everything you need, grocery store at street level, restaurants everywhere and of course endless shopping of all sorts at your doorstep. Minor drawbacks - no wardrobe or hairdryer. Recommended for budget travellers and those with not much time in Shanghai and thus the need to be accessible to major sights within walking distance. Taxi from the hotel to Pudong airport in early afternoon midweek cost around 130RMB. Alternately an airport shuttle arrives/departs from the Central Hotel, about 2 mins walk from Seventh Heaven.

I spent about 4 nights here in April 2012 and decided to return as I had good memories of my previous stay.
This time I stayed for just over 2 weeks. The Good: excellent location, well priced, warm room. The Bad: needs renovation. The wifi is unreliable and weak. In the wintertime there is no heating in the corridors of elevators. This lack of heating is fairly standard,I discovered, in Shanghai in winter so this is not a negative comment re Seventh Heaven. The hotel dates from the 1930's so it's old fashioned.
Would I recommend it? Yes, at its price point for Shanghai which is an expensive city this hotel will give you adequate comfort. It's clean and situated on a very lovely street with lots of shopping and great for people watching. Breakfast has been given many negative reviews. The range of food is aimed at Chinese tastes mostly. So it depends on whether you want to adopt a "when in Rome" attitude or expect western style food wherever you travel. Occasionally could smell cigarette smoke in the hotel though not in our room. For dinner and lunch I would highly recommend a couple of Korean style restaurants situated across the street in the huge Zara store. Just enter the building on the left entrance, not the central entrance, and go into an elevator on the left to the 6th floor. There are 2 restaurants Origus and Zhi Chen. The former has a buffet which includes wine and beer at an excellent price. Wifi too.
Room tip: the 17th floor had magnificent views over the street and you could see the 3 major skyscrapers from the window.
When we were leaving the hotel reception very helpfully booked a taxi for us to go Pudong airport. My impression was that the staff were interested in getting their work done and weren't trained to smile at the residents. If I revisit Shanghai and my budget doesn't stretch beyond Seventh Heaven, I would stay there again.

We needed rooms for 2 nights which provide good sleep and good shower. Rooms that's centrally located in east nanjing road. Where we can shop, can dine, easy access every where and yet a good price.

We got them. The hotel is surrounding with all shops and restaurants. It located between MRT east nanjing and people square. About 10 minutes away from both MRT.

At the entrance of hotel there was a train ticket counter where you can buy express tickets everywhere as we bought our tickets to Hangzhou. Be ready the officer doesn't understand any English and all the schedule were written in chinese. So you better find the time table from the internet to decide which train to take.
Just outside the hotel. You will find a sight seeing red bus hop in. We paid RMB 30 for line 1 and 2 to see around shanghai city.

Lobby was located on 7th floor. We were given a room on the 8th floor. Everynight we believe they held a karaoke event. Either on 5 or 7th floor. It was really noisy. We could hear everywords they sang. But we were so tired. Slept as soon as we hit the beds.

The reception barely understand English. Not very friendly. The breakfast was horrible. Bad choices and not tasty. Better buy and eat outside.

We booked 2 Rooms. They are acceptable. Although no good view. Clean old hotel with small size room and clean shower. Provide free flow small gallon of mineral water. Heater works well. Water shower was good. Simple amenities provided. Tv and wifi works fine. Pillows, beds, and sheets were ok.

Yes we will come back and stay there. With our budget for the hotel. We think we got enough. It meets the value we paid.

Note : across from hotel is shanghai food hall. Where you can find all sorts of fruits, cakes, snacks and food gifts. Upstair they have food courts. Try the Yang's dumpling located on the left side or food court infront of cashier. We love them.

The hotel was perfectly clean and very easy to locate even when our maps weren't working. It's in a fantastic location on Nanjing Walking Street, near everything you might need and two great Metro stations.

We did have to ask them about the aircon which was pumping heat out even on the lowest setting, but it is set centrally and was set to 'warm' (it was the end of March - everyone was wearing a coat except us!) - so we turned it off and the room cooled nicely.

We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. It's not the newest place in the world but it is perfectly decent.

It was so lucky that we only check in 1 night at this hotel. It was a heart stopping experience. Firstly when we walked into the room, we discovered black unremovable stains on the bath tub. Secondly we discovered black and white dirty stains also on the wash basin. Thirdly, when we needed to use the toilet, some cockroaches came out of nowhere and scared us to death! Fourthly, there was a huge strong stench coming out of the drainage / sewerage pipe that we swear we wouldnt stay at such a horrible place again. The only saving grace of this hotel was the centralized location. Other than that, dont even come even if its free of charge.

I have never written a negative review on this site before, but having had such a poor experience from start to finish at this hotel, I feel compelled to warn other travellers.

Myself and my partner stayed at the Seventh Heaven Hotel in mid-Sept 2013. On arrival at the hotel we presented our passports for the receptionist to look up our booking. He checked us in and advised that our twin bed room would be on the 11th floor. I advised that we had booked a Superior room, which is advertised on the hotel website as having one double bed. The standard room (at 100RMB less per night) has two single beds. The receptionist insisted that I had made a mistake and was not very helpful or willing to discuss the matter further. Tired from our travels, we made our way up to the room and decided to follow up on this in the morning.

We lugged our bags up to the 11th floor (with no offer of assistance from the Concierge). The first thing I noticed was that the room - with its ripped wallpaper, dirty floors and bedding and rotting wooden window-frames - was a smoking room. I had requested on booking that the room would be non-smoking. Very annoyed at the state of the place, we headed out for dinner.

On returning to the room, someone had slipped some flyers for prostitute services under our bedroom door - lovely. We decided to get an early night and settled down to sleep. However, it soon became clear that the walls and windows were so thin this was made nearly impossible. We could hear the television next door (though it was likely not turned up very loud) and the hustle and bustle of Nanjing road outside the window went on until the early hours.

After a poor sleep, the next morning we decided to go down to the reception to try and explain that we had booked a Superior room and had been placed in a Standard. We really wanted to move, as between the noise and the flyers that had been left under the door - I didn't feel happy or safe staying where we were.

The receptionist was of no help, advising that the website was old and hadn't been updated. That the room we were give was a Superior room (despite the complete lack of resemblance to the picture on their site) and that they didn't actually have any rooms in the hotel with double beds - rubbish. I told him that we were unhappy and that I didn't want to stay in that room as someone had slipped flyers for adult services under our door while we were out and this made me feel uncomfortable at the thought that someone could have accessed our room from the ground floor. The receptionist pointed out that the room wasn't accessible from the ground floor and seemed to know exactly what I was referring to when he talked about these 'cards' - leading me to believe, that these flyers may have been placed under our door by the hotel themselves. After getting no satisfaction on the room issue, we resigned to the fact that we were stuck where we were, but made a point of saying that we were very unhappy with the room and the service and that we would not be recommending the hotel. The receptionist told us that this was okay and nodded us on our way.

The next few days were filled with various mishaps - a blocked toilet, a safe that wouldn't open, a revolting meal in the hotel restaurant, cleaning staff knocking on the door at 9am to boot us out, phone calls at 8.30am to advise our laundry was ready (wrong room). Basically a complete nightmare.

After our stay was up, we left the hotel delighted to be heading home. Unfortunately, we both felt that the Seventh Heaven Hotel had put such a dampner on things that overall we found it difficult to enjoy our time in Shangahi and were just glad to see the back of the place and to head home.

I can't stress how poor the service was here, how unclean the room was and how unfriendly the staff were. I am amazed how this place has some decent reviews from other travellers but our experience was the pits. This hotel will not be operating for much longer if this is how they treat their clients.

My partner and I booked this hotel through Agoda for a 3 night stay during Expo in Shanghai. We received a confirmation from Agoda for our reservation, and noted we would be checking in late as our flight arrived after midnight. Our credit card was also charged.

After a long trip, we arrived at the hotel to be greeted by a "trainee" front desk associate who informed us that they had no rooms available despite our reservation. He said that he had accepted the Agoda request and had booked us in at another hotel nearby instead. The hotel he had booked for us was the nearby Nanjing Hotel which was not the same caliber hotel as Seventh Heaven, even though the trainee insisted that it was- obviously this was the old "bait and switch" tactic and were not being fooled. We advised that we would not be staying at Nanjing as we had paid Agoda through credit card for Seventh Heaven. We tried to negotiate by asking for part of our money to be refunded for compensation in staying in the dumpier hotel and were refused. The employee called the manager and had a long conversation about the situation- he looked frustrated but said we had 2 choices:
1. Stay in the dumpier hotel- no price compensation
2. Pay for the night in seventh heaven and come back tomorrow to get a refund.

Again, we refused. By this time it was after 3am and we suggested that we wait until the first customer checked out of the hotel in the morning and they could make up the room and compensate us for the following night. The trainee called the manager and said we would have to wait until 8-9am until the manager came into work and he would decide whether we would have a room. They said they were already booked full for that night as well.

We never saw a room in the hotel so cannot comment on the quality, but we would not recommend staying here due to the shady business practices of the staff and manager. We were treated very poorly and ended up not sleeping at all that night as we had to find another hotel (we finally got one at 10am).

We stayed at Seventh Heaven for 3 nights and found the location convenient as it is right on East Nanjing Rd and a 5 min walk to the nearest Metro station. The hotel isn't too hard to find but look for the Giordiano signs if you are having trouble location it. The rooms were small and clean and had all the amenities you would need. The wifi hardly worked but we experienced that throughout the city so I don't think the hotel is to blame. The reception area smelled heavily of smoke but our room thankfully did not. We were able to leave our luggage after checkout since we had an evening flight which is helpful. We skipped the breakfast as there are many great eating options in the city. Overall the hotel was fine but there are probably better options for the same price.

Hi, if I remember it right check in is 2pm. Not sure about early checkin, I believe they can accommodate you early if the room is free. The location is very nice so I'm assuming they are usually fully book. I don't have their email address but I still do have the number I called to tell them I'm coming late. +86-21-63220777 Hope this help. Have a safe trip and enjoy Shanghai!
