The location of this inn is fantastic! It is a short walk to East Nanjing Metro station exit 6 and about a 10-15 minute walk to the heart of the bund. Most things we wanted to see or eat were near our hotel or within 2 metro stops!

The bed in the room is very comfy and the wifi was decent. They also had a decent sized lobby area with a little cafe that served coffee and cake.

The bathroom looked nice, but water leaked like crazy through the shower door and the flush lever needed lots of readjustment on the toilet our first night.

Room cleanliness does not seem to be a priority as our bed was never fully made during our stay and there was bits of paper and stains on the couch and carpet when we arrived at the hotel.

Excellent budget hotel in main location of Shanghai. The entrance is little bit sketchy, but other than that, excellent budget hotel. It is walking distance to nanjing road and many restaurant around hotel. Thus, nothing to worry about meal.

I have visited China five times since the mid 1990s, this is the first Chinese run hotel that meets the international standard. Many self-claimed four or even five star Chinese hotels have disappointed my family. They might have beautiful lobbies and fancy restaurants, but they often have smoky and smelly bedrooms and non-functional bathrooms. Most their staff had no concept of customer service. Fish Inn is a nice surprise. It is clean and comfortable. Even in the middle of a fish market, it doesn't small bad! It is a good and inexpensive alternative for travelers who is used to Western standard and yet unwilling to pay $200-300 a night in an American hotel.

I stayed at this hotel in April 2023 for 3 nights. It was while I was in Shanghai for the weekend between business meetings and I was looking for a clean, basic room in a convenient location so that I could easily go sightseeing during the day. The location of the hotel is very convenient being less than 200m from Exit 6 of East Nanjing metro station (do keep in mind that the hotel entrance is up a kind of sketchy alleyway off Ningbo Road if you cannot find it easily). There is a FamilyMart 50m from the hotel entrance too. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and eager to help even if there English was limited. Unfortunately that's where it ended for me. My room was dirty - it looked like the carpets hadn't been vacuumed in years and the wallpaper was peeling off and was stuck onto the wall with tape. Throughout my stay the drain in the bathroom had a terrible stinky smell that could only be masked by leaving the room window open and bathroom extractor fan on. The housekeeping was also not great as they only replaced towels and toilet paper - they did not even make the bed during my stay. The only redeeming quality here was that the bedsheets seemed clean. In addition, my room was located next to the elevator, so it was quite noisy with the sounds of the elevator going up and down. To be honest, even though I didn't have very high expectations, I was disappointed with the hotel. From what I've seen it seems like if you shop around you can find better hotels for not much more nearby. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this hotel and I will not be returning.

I booked and paid for 5 nights and decided to quit in one night staying in the hotel, no refund as the policy of the hotel. Terrible food, room was so dirty, spiders running under my pillows. I smelt food every corner in the hotel. The hotel is just one-star-hotel, old and dirty building. NEVER I COME BACK SIR. ALL CHEATING FROM AGODA. After one night, I moved to the Shanghai grand central hotel with same price found in Booking.com. NEVER USE AGODA again.

I don't know what world other reviewers live in, but this place should be avoided at all costs. Do not believe the pictures. I reserved the deluxe queen room pictured on every booking site and when I got there they gave me a much worse room with little twin beds. I didn't even want to walk into the room. It was barely big enough if I had tried. The entrance is on a very dank alley, that if this had been a movie, I would have expected an opium den at the end. It's run down and smells. I immediately went down to the lobby and complained, opting to find another hotel in the rain than stay another moment. Don't believe the other reviews.

I took the Maglev from the airport, changed to the subway and found the hotel quite easily as I followed directions from reviews on TripAdvisor - use exit 6 at the East Nanjing Road metro stop and turn right, walk 200 metres and it's on the left. It is down a little alleyway and the hotel is lovely and quiet.

Check-in was quick and my room was compact but nice and the bed comfortable.

The lovely bathroom - enclosed in glass walls with vertical blinds for privacy - had a walk-in shower with excellent water pressure and bulk toiletries.

There's a TV, kettle, coffee & tea, fridge, TV with some English channels and free WIFI. Breakfast was available for a fee in the lobby.

The location was good with shops, restaurants, convenience stores. I walked to The Bund quite easily and also visited Shanghai Disneyland and the transport was excellent. Just be aware that Google Maps doesn't work in China, however, if you have an iPhone, Apple maps does.

I highly recommend this hotel in Shanghai.

Dont be put off by reviews of it being off in an alley. Get out of East Nanjing Rd Metro Station exit6, turn right, pass a convenience store, a bakery, a pharmacy, shoe repair shop amd mail sorting facility, and the alley/lane is on your left. Spot the blue sign above the gate at the entrance to the alley. The alley isnt shady at all, its where some locals stay amd upon entering the alley, theres a security always manned by one or 2 guards.

It was pretty humid when we were there and the lobby and reception desk wasnt well ventilatèd (no aircondition) but the college students employed are helpful and can communicate in English and greets you with a smile everyday you walk pass. Theres elevator and stairs. The rooms although small is adequate. The bed was comfortable and clean. Shower gels provided. Water heats up fast and pressure was good. Bottled water replenish if you allow room service to come in.

The negatives: pillow too soft, floor never vacuumed, no in room safe, aircon n tv remotes all in chinese (take a lil time to figure it out), the shower door doesnt close properly so water and spills out to toilet area. Lastly we didnt notice that they provided plug in mosquito repellant..until aft we got bitten.

The location:
- like 1 minute walk to the metro. East nanjing station is also on a line that conveniently gets us to alot of attractions on our itinerary
- the bakery nearby has got baked goods and cakes too
- walk out from the lane into ningbo road, cross tbe street and you find eateries. Where locals gets their soy milk, buns and Yang's dumpling that was delicious
- walk further down. 6 to 8 mins gets you to the pedestrian nanjing shopping area. Here you have an array of both local shops, shopping complexes and some imternational brands. Here is also one of the spots for the city hop on hop off bus
- your legs can take you if you walk to the end right to the bund to admire the architecture and watch the Pudong skyline, 10 to 12 mins walk, it wasnt that hard

Lastly given the price we pay and the convenience of its location, we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I've traveled to Shanghai a couple of times these past few months, and have been looking for a reasonable hotel, centrally located. This place works.

Pro's: Location, 4 minutes from east Nanjing Rd. Price, compared to the 5 star places down the road, this place is significantly cheaper. Clean, modern rooms, some wear and tear, but nothing drastic or unexpected. Easy access from the Metro, line 10. Staff spoke English. Finally found a non-smoking room in China, that didn't reek of smoke.

Cons: I wanted to use my VISA, in order to save my cash, but their machine would not accept my card, had to pay cash. Mattress in the bedroom is on the floor, no box-spring or bed frame. Entrance is down a tiny, dirty alleyway, can be easy to miss.

I would stay here again.

They lock the main entrance at midnight according to the notice they posted on the board at reception. It is best you check with them by email. They should be able to send you a reply in English.
