First of all, we can’t start this review without mentioning the lovely care Jianguo staff provided to my wife and I during our 2 weeks staycation in the beautiful district of Xuhui, Shanghai. During the whole stay, we were provided with consistent room service, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, temperature and PCR tests. Staff is so nice they call you every time the meals are ready in front of your door. The room size is more than convenient to allow you sport activities as well as home office activity. We do not put 5 stars as we would recommend another fragrance diffuser in the public facilities. Indeed, 3 times a day someone come to spray this powerful and long lasting scent in the corridor. It might give you some headaches, but nothing to worry about. Last but not least, an unforgettable view on the most beautiful cathedral of Shanghai, saint Nicolas Church. If you are facing this beautiful place, you will be lucky to see the sun from 2:50 pm till 4:30pm (during winter). Open the window, close you eyes, yes, you are in paradise!
Thank you very much, see you next time Jianguo

We stayed at this hotel for 1 week. It is an international hotel, with a caring staff. The breakfast buffet is geared towards all nationalities. Rooms are spacious and clean. Rooms have a safe in them. Walking distance to shopping, bank, restaurants & subway. Hotel has restaurants, hair salon/barber, business center, pool, etc. Concierge staff to arrange sightseeing or other amenities. We felt very safe in this area. I liked the fact that you could open the windows if you wish, too.

I won't bother going in to too much detail about the facilties, staff etc: My room was small but nice, Internet access handy and daily breakfast very nice. Concierge very helpful with writing cards in Chinese to give to taxi drivers.

What did concern me, and I have no idea how it is in other hotels, was the number of requests for "massages" I and other members of our travelling party received. Also, one evening when we returned to the hotel there were 3 prostitutes standing by the elevators on the ground floor looking for business. (It took me a while to realise that the women standing around in some bars and on street corners in some parts of China are in fact selling themselves.... Call me niave!)

It would be nice to think that, even if this does go on at every business grade hotel in China, it's something that's not condoned by management and that the "procurement" of such services could go on elsewhere....

I have stayed at this Hotel several times while in Shanghai. Rooms are very clean and well appointed. The executive floors have their own lounge on the 23rd. floor. Great view, and relaxing atmosphere. A better breakfast is served when staying on the exec. floors. There is shopping nearby, and there is a huge Catholic Cathedral directly across the street. It is approx 40 mins. to the airport. You can arrange for the hotel to pick you up at the airport. They will be waiting for you with a sign. I highly recommend this hotel.

I've stayed at this 'five star' on three separate occasions in the past year and have left with a different impression each time. In general, efficient check-in (for China). Rooms tend to be small and some are better maintained than others.

My most recent stay was not the best as the room did smell a bit of smoke and was clearly not the best quality they have. A previous stay in a single room was much better, if very small room and 'single' bed. On that occasion it was a recently renovated room which was great.

The saving grace for this hotel is the location right over a subway station which means Shanghai is easy to explore from here. Sadly, it is far from both Hong Qiao and Pudong Airports and both of the main train stations, which is quite an achievement. Shopping nearby is a little sparse but the breakfast buffet is well staffed, well stocked and of high quality- Chinese, western, Korean and Japanese options are all available. Taxis are plentiful in Shangahi but if you need to get to the airport, consider a subway as traffic is murder!

Great for a budget vacation but only convenient for business if you are going to be working nearby. There are better and newer options around these days. I would stay here again for personal travel but I would be more selective with my room.

The hotel is located at Caoxi Lu. The Xujiahui subway station is 3 mins by foot to the north. In the same direction and distance are several large indoor markets for electronik gadgets (cameras, PCs, etc.), as well as several large department stores. The Shanghai indoor stadium is about 10 mins by foot to the south. Numerous restaurants are within the area. The subway to People Square / Nanjing Lu takes about 15 minutes.

The hotel successfully caters for local and international patrons. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful, yet not intrusive. Check in and out is is efficient and in a timely manner. The rooms are spacious and clean and contain the typical Chinese 4-star furnishing and amenities. Everything is in working condition. Several international programs can be received on the TV. Internet access is complimentary. The bedding is confortable.

The breakfast is served on the ground floor and includes Chinese buffet, egg station, different breads, cheeses, cold cuts, pastries, cereals, fruits, accompanied by a varienty of juices and hot drinks... All the things I had met my taste.

I stayed in this place 3 times in 2010 and will stay there again in the future.

Worst hotel experience i have ever gotten in China. Room is small and bathroom is dirty. People there are rude and impatient. Go for other hotel if possible stay away from this place. You don't see the service standard. During Morning breakfast we have to hold our food to serch for a seat to settle our meal, finally some guest finish their meal, then we need to ask the waitress to clean up the table. Otherwise they will be standing there. Went to buy a pack of cigarettes. The lady in the hotel shop ask me to hurry up to tell her what i want and she has another customer is waiting to buy more expensive cigarettes, but meanwhile another sales girl was standing on one side doing nothing.

We stayed in this hotel as part of our Kuoni tour of China. Some structural work was being undertaken, scaffolding was being erected while we were there. We received fruit and free drinks as compensation for this but we were not inconvenienced at all. The room on the 15th floor was clean and very comfortable with all the expected facilities. Breakfast was good with lots of choice.

This was my 23rd visit to Shanghai and my 10th Stay in Jianguo Shanghai. The best thing for this hotel is that this is in the city centre. Metro station is next door. You can visit any part of the city in 20-30 minutes. For me the Indian food is all around hotel with in 3-4 km.

I am very pleased with this hotel. Excellent service and clean and nice rooms (a bit small). The neighborhood is great and and transportation is very useful. Lots of taxis and the hotel is above a vast underground station.
The breakfast is very good as well.
I am sure to stay again in this hotel.
