Since 1929, the Fairmont Peace Hotel boasts a history that overshadows any other hotel in Asia. Its origins date back more than a century, serving as a glamorous playground, where every night was an extravagance. Each guestroom is an indulgent, exquisite and modern experience. Its dining venues are the most prestigious on the Bund, with magnificent views of the Bund and Pudong skyline, the European elegance defines The Cathay Room with terraces while Chinese art and legend characterise the Shanghainese cuisine of the Dragon Phoenix. The Jasmine Lounge is famous for its high tea tradition while the Jazz Bar faithfully continues a Shanghai institution: The world-famous Old Jazz Band. Consisting of six veteran musicians whose average age is 82, has drawn an audience of locals, international travelers, celebrities and heads of states, Clinton, Reagan, Obama and Trudeau to name a few. People come from all over the world for this unique experience. Not to be missed.

This 1920s icon on the Bund fits seamlessly into the modern hustle and bustle of Shanghai. Walking in through the revolving doors from the crowds on Nanjing Rod East one finds an oasis of calm and splendour. The reception staff are assured and efficient (reserving us a table in the jazz room for that evening and a place on the hotel tour taking place in 20 minutes that was already fully booked). A big thank you to the young lady whose name I did not remember - Lily maybe...). Anyway a porter guided us to our room and showed how things worked and straight on don to the museum room for our tour where we were given a guide to ourselves, the wonderful Elly. She explained the history of the hotel and showed us all the details that we would surely have missed if left to our own devices. A big thank you to her!
Our room itself was at the cheaper end of the hotel's offering but still was very comfortable with a large bathroom (including a large roll top bath with claw feet), a desk and separate seating arrangement. The bed was very comfortable and as a room with courtyard facing windows it was a very quiet night. Breakfast was varied with mainly Asian food but I must say the western food on offer could have been better. A small gripe as I had a fabulous Asian breakfast selection personally. Not a cheap option for staying in Shanghai but certainly a wonderful experience and lovely staff.

Room Tip: You pay a premium for rooms overlooking the Bund but even the cheap rooms are well appointed.

My husband and I had afternoon tea here recently after the Cathay room has reopened. The food was wonderful, very beautiful and delicious! Everything was very safe too with surfaces disinfected regularly and staff wearing face masks. Delia and Zoe served us and were both wonderful hosts, our tea was topped up regularly and we felt very looked after. Would definitely recommend for a lovely view of The Bund.

My wife and I booked a Gold room for our wedding anniversary, and we were blown away by how well we were treated by Nana and all of the staff executive lounge staff. They went out of their way to make our stay and the occasion special for us, and we felt everything at this hotel was absolutely top notch!

The Fairmont is a big step up from other luxury hotels in Shanghai. The service throughout the premises is the most attentive and friendly we have seen at a big hotel in China, and the prime location, decor, and well-known history are added bonuses. We enjoyed a drink and watching the oldest jazz band at the bar downstairs, and had a nice dinner at Dragon Phoenix. We appreciated that you can enjoy a lively bar and a nice dinner without leaving the hotel; usually it’s difficult to get one of these during your stay.

We have stayed at other reputable hotels in Shanghai since the pandemic began, but we often find the facilities to be limited, the rooms slightly worn, and the food and service mediocre. However, the food both in the lounge and at the breakfast buffet was very fresh and varied during our stay at the Fairmont, and the room appeared to be meticulously maintained. If you are wanting a true 5-star experience, this hotel will definitely not disappoint. Thank you again for the memorable experience!

It's my first time staying at Fairmont Peace Hotel and it's also my last hotel collection at Shanghai Bund. I was intending to book the Japanese Suite yet, unfortunately, it was already reserved for another guest on the day I requested. So instead, I chose the France Suite just next door and the room was impressive. There were many items and crafts and art pieces that made the vibe of the room authentically French. But what impressed me even more was the staff and their professionalism and hospitality.

The staff members throughout the property were genuinely nice to me and very friendly. From the security guard and doorman to the concierge and the executive lounge, everyone I encountered was extremely sharp looking and helpful. They truly offered professional service that made me feel at home. Specifically, the people at the Cathay Room, Richard and Jiami, deserved a shoutout. My friend and I had a great time there with their extraordinary service. Also, I forgot their names but the staffers at the Willow Stream Spa, which was one of the hidden gems of this place, left me with great experience as well.

The Fairmont Peace Hotel is a historic landmark on top of a remarkable hotel that is extremely underrated. Despite the booming of modern hotels like the Edition and Bulgari around the area, I think people should not miss out on the opportunity to stay here. It gives you one of the most authentic experiences of Shanghai Bund and is definitely one of a kind.

The Fairmont Peace Hotel is a must if you are visiting or living in Shanghai! I booked a one bedroom suite with gold lounge privileges for my husbands 40th birthday and we were not disappointed.

From checking in on a separate floor to the delicious afternoon tea, hors d’oeuvres and drinks in the evening it was well worth the money. The room was well presented, spacious and elegant. The bed was so comfortable and the bathroom products were outstanding.

My husband received birthday greetings upon arrival at the hotel and throughout our stay. The personalised touch of a cake in the room and a Victor teddy was well received! We ate an amazing dinner in the Cathy restaurant and had drinks on the terrace with spectacular views of the river. Our weekend was complete with a visit to the jazz bar. My husband was overwhelmed when the jazz band sang happy birthday to him and he received another birthday cake. It was like stepping back in time.

The hotel has retained many of its old features which adds to the ambience and exquisite feel of the hotel. We have lived in Shanghai for ten years and are disappointed that this was our first stay at the Fairmont Peace Hotel. We will definitely be booking another staycation! Thank you to all the staff who went above and beyond to make our stay such a memorable and wonderful experience.

Having just spent the long weekend at this hotel, it is now my first choice upon future trips to Shanghai. Staff are super friendly, and their service is very genuine. Alexander and the doormen on Nanjing East Road are also most welcoming. The hotel has the best location to experience Shanghai, and the building itself is iconic. The building is beautiful and the original features are well maintained. It really makes you feel you are in the heart of the city. The room was very well laid out and comfortable, and staff are very accommodating at breakfast and can provide you with food which was not originally out as part of the buffet. That was really kind of them. I look forward to my next visit!

A True Classic Hotel that has been well maintained and looked after by the staff and Management.

Stayed one night and was upgraded to a bund suite. An amazing room with views over the bund, classic luxury settings of the room features, ( too many to list here)

Gold lounge was a great stop to relax and fresh over Happy Hour after shopping on Nanjing road for the afternoon.

Breakfast was a mix of Chinese and Western, with attentive staff looking after all types of guests, ( Family/Kids, Couple and few corp travellers like myself)

Great location to visit the traditional and bund area of Shanghai, as a first-time stay would recommend, and I plan to visit again with family next time in Shanghai.

Situated right on the Bund, this is a historic hotel that has catered to many celebrities over the years. Service is superb and you can experience European style high tea if you're interested or just drop in for the jazz band at night. There is a very good little pastry shop called the Jasmine Lounge if all you require is a tasty snack. Top of the line hotel!

To keep it short:
Stayed for the first time in this "premium-hotel" and it will be the last time. Nice location and heritage building but some staff and employees with lack of service and customer orientation. Premium is more than expensive and shiny materials it's also an expression of excellence in well-trained employees and full commitment for the guest.

The Fairmount Peace Hotel is refined and elegant every step of the way. From the entrance through to the lobby and the beautifully maintained Jasmine lounge. I came today to celebrate my birthday and was treated very well. The afternoon tea was delicious - the menu is well considered and every mouthful was a taste sensation.
Edward asked if my friend and I would like to learn to dance with one of the instructors; Avender arranged for the band to play happy birthday and I got a wonderful cake with candle. Lacey waited on us all afternoon and when my friends mask broke they took it away and sewed the strap back on for him (it was originally glued!). This may not be a cheap experience but it was worth every penny and we had a fabulous time. Highly recommend.

I had no trouble as the adaptors worked quite well. I needed an additional socket near my bed to take care of some medical equipment for which a spare socket was not available.
