The hotel is nicely decorated but we were immediately put off by the unfriendly service upon check in. The staff took forever with our passports and when I asked the English speaking concierge for xiao long bao recommendations she couldn’t give us any! That was a surprise considering it’s a Shanghai delicacy. She also smelt like BO and had dandruff on her uniform with dirty sneakers.

The room itself is nice and we enjoyed views of the Pearl Tower from our room om the 7th floor. Initially our TV didn’t work but we contacted the front desk whi fixed it while we were out for the evening.

Located near to 2 mrt line, easily take us to most part of shanghai. 2 convenient stores & 1 mini mart nearby. No restaurants but got couple of cafes. Hotel restaurant foods do not taste good, we ordered fried rice and one soup with rice to take back to our room, both tasted bland.

Room is comfortable, good for 2 to stay. Pillows are too soft though. Love the Japanese style bidet toilet, it is a big bonus.

Walking to bund is slightly more than 1km. Definitely worth the walk.

Price is very reasonable during our new year period.

Dear StanUP, Thank you for choosing us and sharing your feedback with us. We are glad you enjoyed your time here and particularly appreciated our central location: we are only a few minutes walk to Tian Tong Road metro station (line10 and 12) -from which the whole city is at your fingertips-, right next to few convenient stores and a 10-15min walk to the Bund and Nanjing Pedestrian Street. It is nice also reading you loved our comfortable rooms and modern facilities, but we appreciate even more you highlighting what we can further improve regarding F&B service. Hope to seeing you again and showing you our improvements!

Nicely decorated room, small space, small that you can not unfold 2 luggage in the room. May have to consider larger room/suite if you are staying with 2 persons. They have all the amenities in the room that a standard 4-star hotel must have. Quite cool with the glass that can be turned from transparent to translucent with a switch of a button

Quite nice, conveniently located.
Rooms are a bit worn out, but everything functions and is clean.
Good breakfast with both European and Chinese dishes.
Ask for a room with the view, it’s worth it. You can see the bund all lighted up in the evenings.

First of all, a disclaimer: Shanghai is my hometown. Although I haven’t been living there for two decades, I have no language barriers. That said, don’t let the lack of English skills of some staff put you off. I stayed in hotels in Shanghai that are much higher tier and cost upwards to $300 a night, there is still no guarantee the staff’s English skill will be perfect. So think of it as an adventure. What this hotel has to offer is more than enough for you to overlook some staff members poor English stills.

Because it wasn’t a business trip, I am in need of booking a hotel that’s value for money. I was skeptical at first as the building looked old and the price seemed too good to be true. Well, the building was old and the price was good and true. But inside the building, everything was very new and the facility was good.

I booked a deluxe King but was upgraded to a suite. For little over $100 a night, it’s a steal. Especially considering it’s flanked by Bellagio and Bvlgari hotels, what you pay here is practically spare change. The room was modern and relatively well maintained, although behind the curtain the wall had a few issues, I guess it’s due to the age of the building. In the lounge room, I can see the 2 tallest buildings of Shanghai and the Bund skyline and the famous “I ❤️ SH” neon billboard, so it’s perfect. Just wish the window was cleaner so the view would be clearer. The bed was a queen size, I guess the size was constraint by the old building layout. I am on my own, so it’s ok. The toilet has the multi function seat, I made a mental note to myself to seek one out when I get home as it has a deodorise function, which worked super well. The overhead shower was good, but the handheld needs to have it’s pressure looked at.

The housekeeper was very friendly. Housekeeping was done properly, although vacuum should been done more frequently as the timber floor makes the dust more obvious than carpet.

The location of the hotel is one of the best in Shanghai for a tourist. 10 min walk to The Bund and 300m approx to the metro station that has 2 lines will take you to most of the sightseeing places in Shanghai. If you understand the language, I suggest you download Baidu map and you will then be able to utilise the extensive bus network that services the hotel too. If you don’t speak the language, find a capable staff member to help. Basically, wherever you want to go, there is a mode of public transport to take you there.

I did not have breakfast, as I wanted to make the most of it by having different local fares from various little restaurants around the hotel.

This will be my go-to hotel whenever I come to Shanghai for a home visit now, as long as they don’t put the price up. Also, since the Louvre Hotel Group was acquired by Jinjiang Group. I hope Jinjiang group will keep up the standard of a western hotel should have.

My family of five recently stayed at the Golden Tulip in order to be close to The Bund for New Year's. In fact, we were originally going to stay at the Radisson Blu but changed our ressie after reading the positive reviews on TA.

We had one Deluxe Room and one Family Room. Both were pretty large and had good configurations - the Deluxe being a little more, well, Deluxe (but only room for two people). The family room had a small kitchen and dining table, which was perfect to have take-out meals or snacks. The odd thing about the Family Room was that it had a separate toilet at the front of the room by the door and then the shower and sink in another room. This was convenient for multiple people getting ready at the same time, but we kept going in the bathroom before remembering that there was no toilet in there. Oddly, the shower had the dreaded glass wall into the bedroom, which seemed like a very odd choice considering that this was supposed to be a family room. Even though you could push a button and the glass became opaque, you could still pretty much see through it. I really hate those glass walls since it's awkward for most families.

The location could not be better. We had a great view of The Bund from our room and it was a very short walk to get there.

We ate dinner at the restaurant one night thought it was really good. Service and food were great, so I'd recommend it. Especially since there are very few choices in the immediate neighborhood except convenience stores.

In the lobby, there was a ping pong table and a basketball hoop-type game, which was fun. The hotel is not lavish or overly luxurious, but was stylish and clean.

The front desk staff were a little curt upon check-in but proved to be quite accommodating and nice during the course of our stay.

Last, we never heard a peep from the other rooms. It may be one of the quietest sleeping environments I've ever been in. It was awesome.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend this hotel for its location, perfectly acceptable rooms, peaceful and laid-back feel and overall value. Would stay again when in Shanghai.

This was our first hotel on a 13 nights tour of China.
The hotel is in a fabulous location and is walking distance to The Bund. There is a grocery store on the corner if you need supplies.
The rooms are a great size and very modern and clean.
There is a guest laundry to use for a small charge.
All the staff are professional and friendly. A big thank you to the gentleman that works in the reception area, he may be the manager. You are awesome thank you for helping us you were always there ready to interpret our requests.
Breakfast was great.
We can't recommend this hotel enough, this is the place to stay in Shanghai.

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in - I didn't want to leave!

LOCATION: Less than a five-minute walk from Tiantong Road subway station (Line 10 and 12) and a ten-minute walk from the Bund.

ROOM: I stayed in a superior double room for five nights. I was everything I thought it would be and more. Spacious, spotlessly clean, modern, beautifully decorated - it even had a walk-in wardrobe.

The hotel is decorated in an Art Deco style throughout and is simply stunning. It has been refurbished to a exceptionally high standard.

BREAKFAST: Is served downstairs in the hotels main restaurant and was a highlight. There is so much choice and all tastes are catered for. Fresh pastries, cereals, meats, cheeses, hot food like noodles, bacon, sausages, eggs and so much more. Thank you to the chef at the egg station who made me a fresh omelette with my choice of fillings every morning. It was delicious. He can make egg any way you like.

Special thanks to the very friendly and attentive housekeeping and maintenance staff who work tirelessly to keep the rooms, and hotel, looking its very best.

This hotel was the best hotel we stayed in during a three-week holiday in Asia. You will not be disappointed.

What a weird experience. It is a stunning building on the north side of Suzhou Creek on the North Bund, proper art deco. The interior has been done very well, extremely stylish and very much in keeping with the building itself, the pictures of the rooms do not exaggerate. The rooms themselves are a bit of a squash but not really a problem. Mine had a great view of the creek and surrounding buildings. So, building, rooms, decor, all great.Breakfast time sounded the first alarms. Staff aimlessly walking around, some polishing things (a small table) for a very, very long time. Uniforms they were wearing were old and dirty, no one wore ties with their suits, frankly they all looked scruffy. Egg station chef spoke no english at all. There was a lady there who translated, wearing a poor, ill-fitting suit and white pumps that were not white anymore. All the usual food available plus a Chinese selection, all of it of very average quality. I asked to sit at a window table, they said yes but didn't move anything for me or clear the table. I had to ask for teaspoons, the ones they gave me had dishwasher stains on them. I pointed this out as I was cleaning it with a serviette and a strange tug of war between me and the breakfast supervisor ensued with her trying to pull the spoon from me whilst saying 'sorry, sorry, sorry!', it was quite surreal. I asked to borrow a bottle opener and some wine glasses for my room and was told I had to collect them from the ground floor myself and promise to return them when I checked out. So, yeah, ok, no problem. The shower door leaked a lot, flooded the bathroom floor. The cleaner cleaned the room but not the coffee cups. Check in was ok, but check out was a bit sad. Five people at the desk, not one other guest in the entire lobby and it took ages, all of them seemingly doing this for the first time. I believe that the company that took the hotel over as part of a chain buy-out is State owned and that explains a lot. Governments should not be running hotels just as F+B experts should not be in charge of the military, it simply makes no sense. A depressing experience that I managed to laugh at.

Dear Richard, Thank you for sharing your detailed stay experience. We are delighted to read you appreciated our historical building, it is indeed an heritage place that made history here in Shanghai. "New and old" this was the idea that inspired our interior decor, we wanted to combine both style to offer our guests something unique. Thank you, especially, for highlighting where we have room for improvement: we are currently in the process of adjusting our breakfast offer to provide a wider and better selection to ensure that every guest can enojy their most important meal of the day. We have shared with our team the importance of room cleanliness in order to avoid this unfortunate event to happen again. We want all our guest to have the most amazing stay possible with us and to enjoy our "Playtime. Anytime"! We are hoping to welcoming you again to show you what we have changed and what we have achieved!

Good location closed to the Bund. close to bus and train station. Front desk was efficient and also kept my courier packages for me. When I booked this hotel I was informed of the environmental aspects of the hotel not providing toothbrush/toothpaste/ comb. But I didn't realise that included shower gel/shampoo/conditioner. The hotel provided one bar of soap, but had travel size sets of shower gel/shampoo for sale. so advice to bring your own shampoo and shower gel unless you want to pay exorbitant prices for minis. Otherwise comfortable room.
