...all top notch, I would definitely stay here again when visiting Shanghai. It’s within a short walk of the Bund and two different metro lines and they are readily willing to sort out taxis anywhere in the city. Our room was lovely too, with a spectacular view, and the bed was very comfortable. We also really enjoyed their NYE celebration last night.

From check-in to check-out, you would expect very solid 5-star experience and I would rate The Westin Bund Center Shanghai for 5.

The location was great and you could enjoy a walk tour to the Bund and Yu Garden.

The suite I stayed was spacious and clean. Facilities were well maintained.

The breakfast was among the best at the same tier and you had variety of choices of foods which were carefully prepared.

Service was nice and staff were well trained.

You could imediately tell that the hotel was under good management with careful minds. One of the best Westin I had ever stayed.

I think it is a great location if you wish to have the Bund in front of you 24h/24h. By walk you can reach all the most important Bund Must; if you chose a suite at the top in the corner (23rd/25th floor) you can have the view on the 3 sides and it is really special. The access to the lounge can guarantee you the relax you need after a long working day and the breakfast is cool giving you whatever you need to start. Fitness center same. Do not miss the Sunday brunch with champagne not limits!

I’ve been staying at the Westin post COVID since my old haunt, the now refurbished Le Meridien Hotel on East Nanjing Road, is no longer part of the Marriott Group - now Conrad.

The Westin Hotel is in the same area of Shanghai so good for city access and its rooms are home from home to the Le Meridien’s.
The same / similar room decor but also the same dated feel.
The TV’s are not Full HD 1080 and there is no 5+ Sport channel available which is very disappointing to be honest for such a room rate and even though I’m not a sports fanatic, not having the best channel in China for visitors is a crazy omission IMO.

The views also from this hotel are nowhere near as good and I don’t believe a river view is even possible even though the location is closer to the river so don’t get oversold.

The Club lounge is OK but I miss the characters from Le Meridien who I had got to know over 15 years.

So the Westin is a perfectly fine hotel, a little tired in some areas, it is due a makeover soon and is not cheap.
The Club is ok, the dining downstairs is also fine and the Concierge handle travel requests expertly and efficiently.

The WiFi works well in the Hotel but as is the norm in China, the restrictions are getting tighter and tighter. I now use phone SIM data for news access etc.

I’ve stayed here 6 times in the last 6 months and I’ve never had a room upgrade even though I am a Gold member so don’t hang your hat on that option.

This hotel is a good value for money. There’s a lot of different room shapes and junior suites so it’s pretty easy to either get an upgrade as a elite member or get something that feels like an upgrade. The lounge has breakfast and dinner with cocktails starting at 5pm which is a nice touch. The location is just a few blocks away from the Bund and a few more to the main shopping street so that’s a plus. I would highly recommend this for a work trip hotel, or a weekend in the city type place with younger kids. I would rate it a 3+ if possible but since China has so many new hotels and luxury hotels it’s hard to give it a 4 or 5 in my book.

I spent 5 nights in this hotel, and had varying experiences over the nights.

Housekeeping was inconsistent as they topped up amenities on some days and did not do so on other days. We approached housekeeping about it and it did not get better.

Hotel was also very crowded and messy during check in. Better crowd control could definitely be done.

Plus point of the hotel was that we had a nice view of the oriental pearl tower as we stayed in the grand tower.

My wife and I are residents here in Shanghai and decided to go for a staycation over The Chinese New Year holiday at The Westin on the Bund. We had a pleasant experience checking in (Anna at the front desk was great!), but quickly ran into a few issues over the course of our stay. Several of the hotel amenities that we had originally booked for ended up being closed due to Covid 19. Both The Niche and Heavenlies were inaccessible to us, the restaurants had shortened hours, and the jacuzzi wasn’t filled. While I understand and appreciate the current global crisis and the hotel’s desire to keep public safety as a main focus, I wish we had been informed about these changes before booking. The website provided no notice, and local listings (SmartShangai) all indicate that the hotel was operating under normal circumstances. It wasn’t until checking in that we had been informed by the staff that all of these precautions had been in effect for at least a year, which gave them ample time to inform the public. The Bund is a great area, but considering we live four stops away, that’s not what we came here for. Great hotel for an out-of-towner, but missing the usual glam from The Marriott chain.

After 400 nights at the Westin I wanted to treat my guests to a free breakfast. They said no. So I cancelled. No issue.

Then they wrote back. It’s ok your guest can have breakfast if you call this 888 number.

I did.

Still No breakfast. So I called again. Another rep. Another failure. Another wasted 30 minutes

I don’t think they are bad people.

They are all shackled under a million room faceless Mormon monolith. There aren’t three people at the Westin who can make an independent decision

They should never have been allowed to merge with SPG. They make North Korea look free thinking

We spent three nights at the Westin Shanghai during the Chinese New Year holiday 2021. Overall we had a great time, the property is in a good shape with the room we were in was nice and clean. Unfortunately we had no Bund/River View that I requested beforehand, but we got a junior suite upgrade on the other hand. Best experiences to mention would be Bella as well as Lisa from the breakfast cafe, both made us feel very welcome and made sure we had a hot espresso every time we sat down in their cafe. We were a bit disappointed with the gym and pool facilities, I do believe that part would be up for renovation next?! Also a bummer was that the sauna was not working, it stated this was due to local COVID regulations but having stayed at the JW next door a few weeks back, over there the sauna was working fine. We will definitely come back for the Sunday brunches, but will wait for the recreational part of the hotel to be upgraded before checking in again.

This hotel is known to be generous to Marriott Bonvoy members, and my stay was no exception. I was upgraded a room with views of the Oriental Pearl television tower, which will never get old for me. The check-in staff was very professional, and I regret not remembering her name. She escorted me all the way to the elevators. Many complain that rooms were not as contemporary as newer offerings, but it's okay for me. It's quite a pleasure indeed to stay in this luxury property of early 2000s with an absolute great location.
