We were in a double room which was clean and tidy.
The location is great, just off the Nanjing walking street, and this is the easiest way to find it. Located at the Peoples Square Station end of Nanjing Rd.
Something I have noticed with a lot of hotels in China, you often get a better deal from the desk than booking on line. Book online if it's a "pay at hotel deal", that secures a room, then negotiate the rate with the desk.

In the famous Nanjing road areas, 5 minutes walking distance to all different shops and subway station. But the hotel itself is just ok, on a old Shanghai style narrow alley kinda road, but get a feeling of how old shanghainese live. It’s being renovated while my stay. Room is small but clean. No restaurant inside the hotel, but they do offer McDonald’s delivery as breakfast with a fee. The room I stayed is about $60 Canadian including the McDonald’s breakfast.

If you are going here by taxi, I suggest you tell the driver that this place is just behind the Le Meridien Hotel. We had difficulty finding this place going round the main roads till we finally found it on a one way narrow street called Guizhou Road. Otherwise it's just within walking distance from the metro station People's Square station, Nanjing Lu (Rd) exit.
The room we got was passable BUT like what another reviewer said, it smells. We managed to get rid of the smell somewhat by running water through the bathroom shower outlet (suspect the smell came from the shower/toilet).
Another minus point - the walls are thin, so you're likely to hear sounds of TV coming from the rooms next door (!) and people talking in the corridors..

First off, let me say we might have just had a randomly terrible experience. Also we speak no Chinese. Ok, here we go. We got off the plane in Shanghai after a very long flight waiting on a very long layover. We decided we might try a hotel being offered at the Shanghai airport, so we approached the first one we saw, and booked it after finding out they had a shuttle and it was only $40USD. Waited a long time for a shuttle, then it was given to a Chinese couple and we were told to wait. Ok. Waited some more. Finally got the shuttle and drove about twenty minutes into a very ugly part of town to our sketchy motel. One guy at the front desk spoke a little English and took us to our room, which was freezing cold with an open window and a door lock which didn't look like it could be trusted. Heater wouldn't work for the longest time, shower flooded whole bathroom, and no toilet paper. In the morning, we realized we needed to be at the airport earlier than we had told the front desk the night before. Unfortunately, the only English-speaking guy was gone. Tried for 30 mins to get them to take us to the airport or just call us a cab. Finally after we gave the shuttle driver 20 USD he drove us in his personal car to the airport, which was a very harrowing ride as he was a terrible driver. I would not recommend this place! Do a little research and also learn a few phrases in the language of the country in which you will be traveling!

we wanted to find a budget hotel that was convenient since we were only planning on staying for one night in Shanghai. We've stayed in 7 Days Inns before in China but this was by far the worst. The staff at the front desk was not very competent and took a while to check us in. The room was dirty, had an unpleasant smell, and we saw a giant cockroach near our bed. We left almost immediately and went to a nicer hotel across the street. Unless you have a high tolerance for this kind of a room, I would never recommend staying here.

We stayed here for the day as we had a 20hr layover before our next flight. We booked as hotel was £28 and on the main street close to everything.

Reception staff took an absolute age checking in a group of 4 before us then took a long time to check us in also (about 30 min total). They did check us in much earlier than advertised which we were very grateful for.

Room was adequate, didn’t look hugely clean but beds were very clean. The bathroom smelled very strongly of cigarettes. It is a non smoking hotel, however my guess would be that people smoke in the bathroom to try not to set off alarms and get rid of butts down plugholes.

We only used hotel as a base to leave our things, shower and sit down for a few hours between exploring. I cannot comment on sleeping here.

This hotel has the 3 most important things. Location, location, location. It welcomes westerners but it is a Chinese hotel. It is 100 ft from Nanjing pedestrian road across from the Subway sandwich shop. That being said, if you were standing right in front of it you could still not find it. You can see the bold sign that stands bright and big on a support between an alley and a little convenience store. Just before the alley there is a small hotel lobby but that is not the 7 Days Inn. The hotel is in the back of the convenience store. If you have never stayed here before and you do stay here after reading this, You are welcome. I just saved you a lot of head scratching. The rooms are cleanish and the people are nice as long as you do not expect anything more than a decent place to sleep close to perhaps one of the coolest streets in the world. I come to Shanghai on weekends when my work has me in-country for extended periods. I love to surf through the crowd on my TW Caster Longboard on Nanjing and photobomb those taking pics and selfies. A good time is had by all. When I want upscale, I stay in one of the suites at Jingjiang with a balcony over Nanjing lu. I have stayed at both Ritz Carltons in Shanghai and amazing as that was, the convenience factor makes this little hotel hotels one of my favorite places to stay. But this was on a holiday (Chinese labor day) so rooms everywhere were expensive. I got this room thru Trip Advisor/Agoda and even right on the best part of Nanjing Pedestrian street is was less than $50USD a night thru the Labor day weekend. The room is more than adequate and I am pleased as punch. However if I looked, I could find something to complain about. Since I try not to do that,. the stay and the people are more than pleasant.

The location is really good and perfect, and only 5 mins walk to People Square Subway (line 1,2,8).
When we got into the room, the room was sooo smelly, I thought it was the smell from the outside, so we closed the windows and turn on the aircon. We left for a while, and when we got back, the room was still smelly. I dont know where the bad odor came from.

This hotel location is very strategic. Just near with Peoples Square MRT station and in the middle of Nanjing Pedestrian road. It's good for dinner and shopping. the room is just ok, but the problem is the staff can't speak English.

Title says it all, this place is a horrible craphole, one of the worst experiences and sleeps of my life. Whether it was the restful freeway noise next to my window, the wonderful view of a grimy industrial complex or the full kitchen consisting of a cabinet with noodles and a fridge filled with luke warm bevvies, I honestly wish I had brought a pup tent with me to set up in a grassy ditch somewhere, would have been better than this atrocity of a hotel.
