Excelente location, close to the Bund and lots points of interest. Rooftop bar is also nice but not too big. Restaurant is very good and busy. Beds are nice and dorms beds have privacy with curtains and big lockers.

Laoshan Hostel (The Phoenix Hostel)
(Private room #4027 with toilet and shower)

+Close to most of the attractions in Shanghai;
2min walk to Dashijie metro station,
10min walk to Shanghai Museum (free entrance) and People's Square,
13min walk to shopping street and shopping malls (Nanjing Road),
17min walk to the Old Town/Yuyuan Old Street, The city Temple Of Shanghai (10 Yuan fee) and Yu Garden (30 Yuan fee),
25min walk to the Bund.
+80min metro (7 Yuan cash on the ticket machine) from Shanghai Pudong Airport, (metro change in Guanglan Rd. station, on the same platform but the other track, and a metro change in People's Square to Dashijie).
From Dashijie metro station, take Exit 1 and then go right, go 100m left at the cross road, Phoenix Hostel is on the right side, you will see a green reception desk.
+Convenience stores and restaurants nearby the Phoenix Hostel.
+Friendly staff with good english.
+Schampoo, soap, toothbrush, towels, hairdryer, comb, slippers, kettle and tea.
+Air conditioner (a little noisy AC).
+Free wi-fi, but not good enough to stream movies (Note: No Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, Pokémon Go, Google or Googlemap in China).
+No carpet on the floor.
+120cm wide comfortable bed.
+Free computer to use and free wi-fi at the bar on top floor.
+Reception stored the luggage for free after check-out time.

-No fridgerator.
-No hanger in the shower or toilet.
-Only 1 toilet paper roll (can probably ask for more when its empty).

+/-
Phoenix Hostel will take 100 Yuan for deposit when you check-in.
The toilet and shower are seperated with glas and its a step to the toilet and shower.
You can print and copy from the computer for 4 Yuan.
The elevator is on the restaurang area.

I recommend this place as its cheap and near to most attractions.
Its both a hotel and a hostel, its having private rooms and also dorms where you share room with other people.

The room and the location was fine. The reason i would never stay there again was because they had a pet rabbit in a cage up in the bar who was majorly stressed. You could see the rabbit knawing at the cage and in obvious stress. I contacted the staff/management of the hostel in regards to this matter and they just replied its the hostels pet. Really put a dampener on staying there for my girlfriend and I. Would certainly not stay at this place for that reason

From Dashijie station (line 8) exit 1, turn right then turn left less than 100m . Halal restaurant is adjacent in the corner. Friendly staff, nice room with amenities, many book but wifi is poor in the night. Hang out in the roof top is the best experience in this hostel.
Would stay here again if going to Shanghai .

I stayed 4 nights in an 8 bed dorm

The rooms are very nice and the bed is spacious and very comfortable. Lockers are key card activated so are very secure

You get a free beer voucher on arrival and I enjoyed it up on the lovely rooftop bar.

Breakfast was included which is great. The food was good but it is a very basic “Chinese breakfast”.
TIP - they don’t have milk so if you want milk for your coffee you have to bring your own.

Location is good with metro stations nearby and walking distance to Yuyuan gardens and the bund

Was very impressed with this hostel and was the best hostel I stayed in during my trip to China

Stayed in the 8 female dorm. Room & lockers are key card operated. Bathroom en suite with 1 shower/separate toilet for the 8 and 2 outside sinks. Bathroom was clean and well stocked. Sheets & beds were clean and comfortable.

Location was fantastic on a street filled with amazing street food. One of my friends who is from Shanghai dropped me off at my hostel one day and was very impressed by the location of the hostel on this street known for excellent food. (Most restaurant have menus with either English of pictures, or you can always point to the selection of street food as they’re very used to serving travelers due to the location of the hostel.) Dashijie metro station is just around the corner making it super easy to get around the city. Staff is nice and helpful, there are lots of group activities always going on in the hostel (Tuesday night dumpling making class!!)
Excellent stay for a Chinese hostel.
100CYN deposit due at check-in which you’ll get back when you leave.

I spent 3 night this hostel while on a personal/business trip. For the money, I was quite pleased. The location was great; on a local street w/ many local eateries to choose from. one metro stop was 4 minute walk and another 10 minute walk. Taxis were easy to grab too. The room was clean, the bed slightly firm and the TV worked fine. The bath and shower were closed in glass, but it was frosted glass and had a modern feel. The roof top bar/restaurant was a gem w/ good food (only ate there once) and good drinks (3 times!). Lastly, the staff is very friendly and helpful, always greeted with a smile.

As I'm staying alone,Don't wish to spend too much on accommodation hence first time trying a hostel. Location was great , near to 大世界station about 9 mins to People Square. Keep a look just of the Chinese name 老陕客栈 instead of Phoenix. 1 thing I would like to highlight was the sound proof of the room. Anyone whom walked passed of the room could be heard as the platform were made of hollow wood. People chattering n laughter too not forgetting the commotion from downstairs. It would increase my experience by reinforcing the lock of the door.

I love this hostel and have stayed multiple times in both the dorms and the private rooms. It has a great location between Dashjie (line 8) and People's Square (line 1, 2, and 8) metro stations. You can easily walk to People's Square (the museum, people's park, urban planning centre etc), East/West Nanjing Rd, the Bund, the Old Town, Yu Gardens & Bazaar as well as the Former French Concession and Xiantandi and Tianzifang. There is a great restaurant downstairs with delicious local food (I like the pork dumplings and the vegetable noodle soup). There is a rooftop bar with some couches and a computer. The hostel will also prebook train tickets for you (for an extra 10% of the ticket price).
The one thing that I find annoying about the dorms is that mine had an ensuite bathroom, rather than multiple stalls. I find this irritating at all hostels that do this, as it means when one person is showering you have to wait to brush your teeth or use the toilet.

Hi! Don't know if you still need an answer or you just' ve tried to leave the luggage :) I took a backpack with me, because I was about to leave the Shanghai for good, but usually it is really good idea to leave your luggage under the supervision of hotel staff.
