We did a staycation at Amanyangyun during Chinese New Year. The location of the hotel may not be the most convenient for travellers who would like to stay near CBD and enjoy nightlife in Shanghai, but it was perfect for a staycation away from the city. The story about the owner moving the villas all the way from Jiangxi to Shanghai is a cultural experience on its own. The Chinese restaurant in the hotel is authentic and the food is delicious and we went there three times during our three-night stay. It can get a little bit noisy at night as the hotel locates on the flight path but other than that, the room is spacious and comfortable. If you are looking for some cultural experience and tranquil time, this is definitely the hotel to be.

I was looking for somewhere to spend a "wellness" birthday afternoon with my wife in Shanghai and found a package online for a massage and afternoon tea set at Amanyangyun, a resort hotel on the outskirts of Shanghai. The package was fantastic value and included use of the pool and gym, sauna room and jacuzzi, a 75 minute couples massage oil therapy session followed by afternoon tea which was beautifully decorated with a huge happy birthday sign as we entered the room. Big thanks must go to Max who is currently doing an internship in the hotel. He arranged everything for us included the birthday afternoon tea and also gave us a tour of the property aftewards - thank you Max for your attention to detail and caring touch. I would definitely recommend the wellness centre for anyone wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of Shanghai for an afternoon or a few days.

A good place to relax in Shanghai, with excellent service from the hotel staff, spa, gym and restaurant. In addition, the pools are good in the Villa or the public, you can use the bicycles that have a good maintenance, places to walk quietly. The food of the Italian restaurant, I recommend you to order pasta or desserts, the rest of the dishes I tried needed an improvement. The gym is good and complete, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, overall a good experience.

I’d recommend it for a staycation for Shanghai residents but not for a visitor to Shanghai due to its location.
For a staycation, it has spacious villas and extensive lawn (rare in the city). But I dont think the hotel should serve breakfast buffet during this covid era and I expressed this to the staff. Some of the other 5 star hotels in Shanghai have stopped serving buffets and rightly so I think. Outdoor pools did not seem regularly cleaned and our used towels were still there the next day. I expected more. We stayed for a special birthday and the birthday set up was lovely and a member of staff helped me a great deal.
For shanghai folks looking for a resort type hotel in Shanghai, I’m not aware of any other hotel that would match the Aman. Wanted to love it but left with mixed feelings.

The hotel is very modern and well built with a blend of Ancient China building. Service is Aman's standard and the staffs are very attentive to details. Chinnese restaurant and hotpot restaurant in the hotel is also very nice and authentic.

From the moment we arrived, the hotel’s entrance set the stage for a spectacular stay. The architecture and historic feel were immediately immersive, like stepping onto a movie set. The ambiance is an incredible blend of grandeur and tranquility.
Staff & Service
The staff were exceptional, making us feel warmly welcomed. We received a complimentary room upgrade, which felt like two stays in one. The attentive service truly enhanced our experience.
Room & Amenities
Our villa was breathtaking. Spacious with a cozy fireplace, an outdoor jacuzzi, and a minimalistic yet fully equipped bathroom, the design was Japanese modern—simple yet luxurious.
Seasonal & Cultural Experiences
Our winter stay was magical. On the first night, we witnessed the lighting of their famous tree, accompanied by mulled wine, which we could bring back to our villa. We’d love to return in summer to see it from a new perspective.

The range of activities was outstanding. Free bicycles are available to explore the vast grounds, and we enjoyed:
• Romantic Boat Ride with Lunch: A serene experience. • Tea Tasting: Engaging and memorable. • Private Cinema: We watched a film about the resort’s creation—truly fascinating.

This Aman resort feels deeply connected to local culture and history, giving it a grand yet authentic character.

Dining here is high quality with fantastic service. While the prices are premium, the experience is enjoyable, though not the highlight of the stay.

The spa facilities are remarkable, with expansive pools and hot/cold plunge options. The complimentary facilities were plenty for a relaxing experience.

A three-night stay is perfect for enjoying all the offerings. Our winter stay was amazing, and we look forward to returning in summer. Highly recommend for an unforgettable experience.

Inspiring property. My husband and I stayed here to have a nice relaxing day before going to busy Shanghai. This is the perfect escape. It was breathtaking to watch all the rescued trees transported over 700km. The breakfast was 10/10 and we very much enjoyed the well equipped gym and spa. It makes you want to have a great workout and then enjoy the sauna and plunge pool. There’s plenty to do in this very relaxing place. We had a bike ride around the stunning canopy of trees and enjoyed the afternoon tea in the cute boat. We would love to bring the kids next time as they have a great set up for children. The room was beautiful with a lovely fire place and Avery comfortable bed and pillows. We loved our stay and would love visit again. Everyone was so warm and friendly

We had a superb 2 nights stay at Amanyangyun hotel. The staff was super friendly, very polite and always very helpful too. We felt very welcome and all our needs & requests where attended. The hotel is quite beautiful, we loved the room was so spacious and well designed. The spa area & the pools where great to relax. The gardens are also very nice to go for walks. Breakfast was very good, it has a great variety, good quality food and very well presented. We mostly ate at the Italian restaurant, Arva, the food was truly well done and authentic!
We had a great time, beautiful memories and would definitely stay here again!

Our family had a very lovely stay in Amanyangyun. Just a 45min drive from downtown Shanghai. We enjoyed the quiet surroundings, indoor swimming pool had the perfect temperature. we also enjoyed the outdoor heated jacuzzi which reminded us of japanese onsen. The yoga classes was also a great way to get our body and mind to relax. The Chinese restaurant was good, while breakfast and italian restaurant is acceptable. The overall friendly service from reception, restaurant, housekeeping staff and guards was exceptional. Special thanks to Jean for taking care of all our requests.
