W Shanghai - The Bund stands out for its spotless cleanliness and stylish rooms that boast magnificent views, although guests might experience some delays with the elevators. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere and exceptional amenities, such as high-quality dining options and aesthetically pleasing decorations, frequently receive praise.
The exceptional service contributes to the hotel's superb value, with attentive staff enhancing the experience despite occasional language hiccups. While its location offers convenient proximity to attractions, it's noted that some destinations require a bit of travel.

Detailed Reviews
The W hotel is by far the best hotel in Shanghai. The Social Retox brunch is a must if you are visiting Shanghai. The quality of the food, friendliness of the staff and general chic ambience of the hotel never fail to impress. The views of the Bund are breath taking.
What sets the W apart from other hotels in Shanghai is the attention they pay to detail. The staff go above and beyond to cater to your every need. The quality of the food is amazing. The chic and trendy atmosphere of the hotel and the cleanliness of the rooms can not be faulted.
I regularly frequent the Sunday brunch but this time took my family for a staycation and was so impressed with how welcome we were made to feel. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quality hotel.

The WOW suite was very spacious and had excellent views of the city skyline at night, I was amazed by it! You could change the ambient lighting inside the room just like in a flagship German luxury sedan. Upon arriving I was helped by Cassie and the Executive Assistant Manager. Very nice people. The service was flawless, Cassie took great care of us and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome - even giving us some very cool W branded gifts! Breakfast at the Kitchen Table was great, there were several different types of freshly squeezed juices, some made to order - which I enjoyed. Made to order hot breakfast items were also available off a menu that did not incur extra charges for us. This is by far the best W hotel in East Asia. This stay has been a very memorable and enjoyable experience for us, I do look forward to coming back and staying in the future when I am back in Shanghai. Thank you W Shanghai!

I am a loyal fan of the Marriott group and when returning to this W hotel on the Bund, I got upgraded by Josephine to the Extreme WoW President Suite. Thanks so much!! I got totally blown away!!!
The suite is on the top floors 41 & 42 with almost 400 sq.mt, perfect for throwing a party or for special occasion. Extreme stunning view of Lujiazui throughout the whole suite. The amenities surprised me: professional DJ equipment & surround sound system with old-school microphone to kick start the night; a mix bar, a snack corner and a ping pong / dinning table and decent wine selection to give you enough variety of entertainment & fun; when you want to relax, a overflow jacuzzi offers you bubble bath along the view and sunna room...
Words fail me when describing the experience but please forgive my lousy pics, the actual condition and atmosphere are much better.
Other thoughts:
1/ Given the room is rather huge, would be even better to have a comprehensive introduction so I don't get lost figuring out how to use the fancy stuff or miss out anything special (e.g. hidden TV behind various glasses)
2/ The steam from the shower triggered false fire alarm which was undoubtedly unpleasant and I hope the design could be improved
3/ A pity that the coffee machine on 41st floor was not filled ...:(
All in all, fantastic experience and recommend to try! I checked in quite late so miss out the night views of LuJiazui as the towers all dimmed their lights, so make sure you come in early to get the most out of it.

Checked in during the post-coronavirus era and the hotel is unsurprisingly full with a lot of domestic and foreign guests ( who tend to forget to wear masks in the lobby). I booked the hotel to celebrate 5th anniversary with my girlfriend and asked the hotel to prepare something in the room in advance. And yet, the hotel perfectly under-performed. The setup in room is the usual thing for a Titanium Elite member and there was not anything, anything special in the room. Very very disappointed and my girlfriend was not happy at all. Booked the package rate including spa for 2 and was told schedule was full and only offer to postpone the service to a later date which is infeasible for me. The front desk manager Ashley was inflexible and unaccommodating. Very disappointed. Although I have to mention the spa dept. deputy manager later offered me a resolution that meets my expectation.
Booked a table at Kitchen table for 2 and when I got there, our table was given to somebody else. What about some professionalism? Maybe foreigners have privileges in the hotel.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to enjoy something special in Shanghai. Not professional and unfriendly staff. I have already filed complaint against this property with Marriott and we will see how Marriott plans to deal with this situation. Deeply disappointed.

A really excellent lunch- well cooked food from a great selection and enjoyed with a great bunch of old friends
The menu is a good choice of dishes from dim sum to great seafood. We had a good selection and shared. I think including drinks it was around £30 a head but more than enough for 8 hungry guys

Our family spent four birthdays in the past five years at the W - the Bund!
The Loyalty team consistently does an amazing job decorating our suite with balloons and personalizing with birthday cake, champagne and card. We love the hospitality and personal touch from the staff. Always pleasantly surprised that the lobby concierge knows my name at check-in and are super-attentive to our needs, especially for traveling with a young child/toddler.
For our son’s 2nd birthday stay, the staff thoughtfully placed a crib in our suite and provided a lovely kiddie bathrobe and amenities/toiletries suited for toddler. He loved playing with the cute animal balloons and really enjoyed splashing water in both pools. He did not want to leave.
Thank you W Shanghai Bund team again for always offering us a memorable experience that urges us to return!

The W Shanghai is one of my favourite hotels I have EVER stayed at.
Twice now my fiancé and I have chosen the W SHANGHAI for a staycation and each time we have been thoroughly impressed; the service, facilities and cleanliness are impeccable.
On both occasions we literally didn’t leave the hotel property. You have everything you need: indoor pool, outdoor pool, gym, day spa, bars, restaurants, and the views are just stunning!
But what has made us choose the W twice is the staff. They are friendly and helpful. In particular two wonderful staff members Luis and Pascha made our stays extra special.
While dining at the kitchen table restaurant Pascha was friendly and welcoming making sure we were enjoying ourselves and had everything we needed.
And we can’t thank Luis enough. For both our stays he had gone over and above to make our stay at the W extra special. You can tell that Luis really loves what he does, it’s more than a job to him. Luis genuinely wants to ensure that you are having the best possible time; which we truly did, thanks to Luis. 10/10 stay!

I don’t normally choose the W, I am with the Regis brand mostly. But the Shanghai W forever changed my view on W hotels. The upgrade to the room I was given already impressed me with the view. I had a very bad back issue when I arrived. The front desk immediately offered medical supplies. I couldn’t open my suitcase and they sent Brian when I asked, who did help. The whenever/ wherever never missed a call, always someone picking up within a minute or two. For a hotel of this size, their service was speedy.
Luis Pena, the W insider, checked on me through email and phone to see if I was ok. I appreciate it.
Breakfast: Oatmilk available ! Lactose intolerant folks , good news! Spread: One of the best, great selection of Western, including bagels/ salad bar/ cheese bar. Chinese: huge variety.
Pasties : colorful and makes me feel like a kid in a candy store.
Finally, the hardware of the hotel needs no further boasting, see pictures and know that this is a hotel worth its buck in Shanghai.
Heated floors in the bathroom !! Love it ! No cold feet ! I am definitely coming back if I am given a room 10 again. I wish I was not ill and could’ve stayed longer to enjoy the facilities. Really want to come back and wake up to that view again.

From the booking to checkout, we were so impressed with the level of service - above and beyond expectation. I received a welcome email and a response to some prior requests made well before the visit and the check-in was quick and efficient.
On learning that our trip was to celebrate an anniversary, we were then treated to personal delivery of bubbly to the room and for our dinner. The inquiries as to our enjoyment of our stay, the food, and the service were frequent and genuine. Nothing was too much trouble and I felt very spoiled and pampered.
The room was fabulous, clean, and comfy with a spectacular view of the river and Lujiazui.

Warning: Please stay away from furniture with glass, be careful that the glass will explode, causing you to be injured.
Tips:
1. If you encounter a staff member who is arrogant and unreasonable to you, please severely reprimand.
2. The staff's words are full of lies, ignorance and ignorance of local laws and regulations.
3. If you have no other consumption in the hotel, be careful that they discriminate against you invisibly.
4. If you only stay for one night, they will not take your needs seriously.
5. Remember to dress yourself up like a rich person.
6. The staff who appear in the hotel are very young and have a low sense of service.
This was a very unpleasant and life-threatening stay experience.
The glass drawer of the mini bar in the guest room suddenly exploded, splashing out many fragments, all the way to the bed.
The two staff members, a man and a woman, who came to check the situation, smiled throughout the process and did not express any apologies. They questioned that we damaged the glass and did not treat this incident as a serious safety accident at all.
In the subsequent communication with the guest room department and the guest department, the staff did not take it seriously, did not calm our emotions, but always emphasized that we must wait for the appraisal report of the glass to come out. If the result is fragmentation caused by human factors, we have to compensate for it. It even gave a plan B that would allow us to check out. The hotel staff has been irritating us, and the relationship between the two parties is very tense.
Even Mr. Zhang (Deputy Director of Customer Department), who came out last, still doesn't say sorry, and is still trying to shirk responsibility for himself and his subordinates.
The attitude of these three staff to the guests is the hospitality of the hotel.
The pool and spa are very nice, and the breakfast buffet is also good.
If you think everything is acceptable, then bravely move in. good luck!
