We travelled as family with a toddler and stayed for 3 nights.

Room: Neat and clean rooms with all amenities. The cookies replenished everyday were tasty (Standard Twin Room)

Service: While the reception staff spoke limited English it was enough for us to get by. A special mention to the attendant helping the reception staff. He was really warm and helpful throughout our stay. On the day of check out he helped us hail a taxi for a short distance to the nearest MTR (which is very difficult to convince the driver). It was raining and we had a lot of luggage with us plus a toddler.

Breakfast: The spread was decent. Had both Chinese and continental options. It was more or less the same everyday with some changes here and there.

Location: What we truly loved about this hotel. It's proximity to 2 MTR stations (Yu Yuan and Dashijie), People's Square, Nanjing Street, Bund, Yu Yuan. All within walking distance and we were with a toddler. Barely used taxi throughout our stay. Also, the hotel is right outside this peaceful park which makes it so perfect. Tranquility within the hustle and bustle.

Amenities: All that you need. Linen wasn't changed (not needed really), the housekeeping did keep changing the slippers (we forgot to tell them not to) but I find it's a waste and not necessary. We could have used the same pair throughout our stay.

I read hundreds of reviews before booking this hotel so I’m keen to give you an honest opinion.

The hotel is situated in the heart of the city between peoples square and the bund. In front of the hotel is a park where locals practice Thai Chi in the mornings ( faint sounds of pip music) and locals gather to discuss the days events - a real authentic experience away from the large corporate hotels that do not give you a traditional Chinese experience. The staff have basic English - enough to get by and are very friendly. The room was lovely and very clean and practice sustainability so no linen changes which is a plus , (also who changes their linen everyday at home) but always fresh tea coffee water and biscuits. Buffet breakfast was extra but well worth it and you get asked on arrival if you want this.

We came to see Shanghai and not spend time in the hotel but was lovely to come back each night to a warm, clean and welcoming hotel so this was absolutely perfect for us.
I would absolutely stay here again and choose it above the overpriced super hotels of the bund. This is a good mix of Chinese experience in a European hotel

I spent a wonderful twelve nights at this hotel, a room overlooking the park on the top floor. The staff is always at your service and at a very high level of courtesy. All the little details that make a pleasant stay in such a hotel are available. Great position in the middle of Shanghai for day and evening tours. I definitely recommend it for those looking for affordable accommodation and real value for money. A small complaint about the internal noise, but it is still up to the behavior of individual guests.
If I have another opportunity will not hesitate to book again this hotel.

Greta location, cheap, clean. My one complaint, people smoke in their rooms, all the time, and I promise it isn’t the foreign guests…. I sit in the lobby and work throughout the day sometimes and witnessed multiple foreigners coming to the front desk to complain, multiple times. I complained as well, could smell it in my room. The staff does nothing to combat it. I remind you, smoking is illegal in all indoor venues in Shanghai…

We stayed here for three nights during our time in Shanghai. It was very new at this stage super clean and located a five-minute walk from the metro (which is the easiest way to get around Shanghai). The staff were very polite and they did a very good value breakfast buffet. Very simple and low thrills but in a great area for getting around and nice and quiet.

There must either be something seriously awry with the Chinese hotel rating system, or the online data for this hotel is completely off. This property seems to be rated 2.5* almost universally. It's NOT. It's a 4* property for certain in a great location.

You can reach the hotel easily by metro, as the Dashije station on Blue Line 8 is a short walk to the property. Take Exit 1 from the metro and turn right out onto Ninghai East Road, then take a short left onto Fujian South Road just on the corner of the small park and you're at the hotel door. It's about a 10 minute walk.

The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and all have very good English skills. The lobby and the property is modern and comfortable, with very cool design. There's a nice sitting area in the lobby and a great restaurant/cafe, which serves meals at fixed prices as well as excellent cakes, coffees, wines, beers, etc.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, all spotlessly clean, with stylish decor, lighting and laminated flooring. The linens are fresh and the beds very comfortable, with modern furnishings. Aircon and heat is excellent and there's room for luggage and a desk with international power connections and free WIFI. There's a flat screen TV offering international channels. There's a kettle, tea, coffee, daily cookies and also a fridge.

The bathroom has a very large walk in shower, although the water pressure is a little (but only a little) on the weak side. It does take a little while for the hot water to flow. There's shampoo, soap, body wash, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairdryer and a clothes line if you're doing your own laundry (the hotel offers laundry at a bit of a price).

Breakfast is available for an additional $10 per day (RMB68) which is a bit steep, but they offer a lot. Western & Chinese options, all excellent quality, although seating is a bit limited and you will almost certainly be sharing table space, which is a nice way to get to know other travellers. You can't fault the quality of the food or the quantity available.

The Bund is within walking distance, as is Nanjing Road. There's a small park opposite the hotel and the area is quiet. Buses and the metro will whisk you to all the other main Shanghai sights and the reception will help you with guides etc.

I really, really liked this property. For the rates, the quality is truly amazing. You're paying 3* prices for 4*+ quality in the heart of Shanghai. I doubt there's a hotel of such quality at these rates anywhere else in the city. You're also just 5 minutes to Yunnan Road, which Lonely Planet lists as one of the best streets for food in the whole of Shanghai. (It isn't, but that's Lonely Planet for you).

The price for this hotel is fantastic! Rooms are clean, modern and spacious with everything you need. Staff are friendly and speak good English. Special mention to the buffet breakfast, which is delicious with lots to choose from, also good value for money. Location is great, short walk to a metro station, as well as the bund and on either side of the hotel you will find a coffee shop and a small supermarket. Would stay here again for sure!

I really liked this (French boutique style) hotel. The staff are very friendly and professional and it has a very relaxed atmosphere in the heart of busy city . I asked for a quiet room and stayed in room 531 which was compact, comfortable spotlessly clean and well maintained. Also good aircon. My room overlooked a small park which is used by people of all ages for early morning jogging and power walking). Surrounding the park are skyscrapers and older low rise buildings from Shanghai's past . There is a small supermarket next door.
The breakfasts are very good - Chinese/continental cooked food ,fresh bread, pastries and good coffee which will set you for the day. (breakfast room is busy 8-9.30am). Very good food is available from the bar/café throughout the day . The hotel has a cool vibe about it. During the day the hotel is quiet and in the bar trendy young professionals and City types drink coffee and surf the net whilst locals play table football. I loved the atmosphere. The guests included young people ,professionals, families with small kids and older independent travellers like me.Location wise the hotel is located in Huangpu district on Fujian south rd. Fujian rd is split by a nearby elevated road. -The hotel is 1000m to the commercial shops and restaurants and Peoples square and its also 1000m to the Bund riverside area. Reception have a free map in English.

Campanile Bund is an unpretentious little hotel which I enjoyed finding recently in Shanghai. It has a comfy cafe, which is a plus. The front-deskers are polite and friendly.

The pros: the rooms I stayed in were clean and suprisingly quiet. (I write about noise a lot in my reviews, for those who care.) I stayed in a single and a twin, respectively, and did not suffer as I usually do with loud housekeeping detail and banging doors. Perhaps this was a fluke, or the guests around me were considerate, but the construction of the doors may contribute to the fact that they operate effectively without the perennial loud banging. The windows of my room looked out on the adjacent park, which was pleasant enough. Although the rooms and windows are small, they are adequate. The hotel provides an electric kettle, tea, slippers and cookies in the room. Also, I met several English-speaking staff and they were friendly and professional.

I ate several times at the hotel cafe, which has an informal French-style ambiance and cuisine, where I had scrambled eggs and french bread for breakfast a few times, and various sandwiches for lunch. Everything was good. The coffee was good. If the hotel marketed their cafe more effectively, I really do think that more people would come in. It is a pleasant place to eat, and you can have a glass of wine or a beer before retiring. The cafe closes by 11PM, so it is not for heavy night-lifers.

Also good: the hotel location is near the Yuyuan Metro station, about 10 minutes walk. I walked to Fuzhou Road too, where all the bookstores are located, and that was 15 minutes or a bit more. So, you can walk to E Nanjing Road easily too.

The cons: Besides the single/queen style rooms being somewhat small, I cannot really think of any negatives. So, I wish the Campanile Bund good luck, and hope to return there soon.
