Experience a signature blend of old school luxury and contemporary elegance at the Taj Mahal Tower, a 5-star deluxe hotel, soars above the Mumbai harbour, looking out at the dramatic panorama of the Arabian Sea and the historic Gateway of India. Designed by American architect Melton Bekker, this luxury hotel opened its door to guests in 1973, instantly carving an identity into the cityscape. Bekker incorporated Indian design elements like Tanjore pillars from the south and arched balconies from 14th century imperial Rajasthan into the distinctive tower which is crowned with a jagged diadem. Four decades since, our hotel in Colaba continues to dazzle patrons with luxurious suites, iconic restaurants and sublime views of the city’s famed seafront. As a guest at the Taj Mahal Tower, you’re privy to world-class sophistication and impeccable service underscored by Mumbai’s warmth and vigour.

The Taj Mahal Tower in Mumbai garners acclaim for its luxurious amenities and breathtaking views, with numerous guests lauding the attentive service that adds a personal touch to their stay. While the rooms are generally celebrated for their upgrades and vistas, some visitors have expressed concerns over room readiness and noise. The hotel's cleanliness is consistently highlighted as impeccable, contributing to the overall festive and welcoming atmosphere, particularly during special celebrations. Set in a prime location rich in history, the property is, however, noted for its steep prices, especially when it comes to food and beverages.

Unlike last time, when I didn't enjoy staying at Tower (might be covid restrictions with the large wedding), but this time everything has been (an almost) pure pleasure.

We stayed for the 2nd weekend of July for my son's birthday.

On arrival, we were upgraded to an apollo suite and had a great time. The suite has a living area, walking wardrobe, large bathroom, 2 balconies & spacious bedroom. The Interior is modern, minimalist and clean. Daily fresh fruits were provided.
I would like to thank Taj for all the attention during our stay and the complimentary cake before arrival.

The staff is just incredible and we were so lucky to be around such genuine and affectionate people during our stay.

Aamir Punjabi: He was at the desk while checking in but he was considerate to check us in our room itself. He made our dinner arrangements. He kept us informed about the status of the medicine we wanted. Aamir is one of the most friendliest executives I have ever met. He also helped us to get the best possible service.

Abhishek: Pure joy to be around such a wonderful and cordial person. He was checking on us, every time we were around.

Utkarsh: Newcomer but hardworking. Got us a few quick bites when were late for breakfast.

Harsh: He is exceptionally understanding and passionate. When we arrived at Souk for breakfast & failed to get any table. He took us to the lounge and got us a table. When he realised that the kids were not comfortable, he got us into the Sea lounge. Very thankful for his help. I enjoyed our small chat.

Akshay Sikri: Akshay is such a charm & compassionate. Arranged breakfast at Sea lounge. Extremely courteous & polite. We had a great time in Sea lounge because of him. You were terrific my friend.

Relation Manager: I forgot her name but she was such a lovely & blessed soul. She was generous & gratifying with kids. Had parenting talks & gave my kids macron cookies as gifts too.

I would like to thank Rohan, Saurabh & Tushar from IRD & housekeeping for taking great care of us.

There were a few drawbacks as well.

Allwyn: He was excessively COLD. Made our evening at Shamiana a loathing experience. I'm not sure whether wanted to work the same night or just our table. Took forever to get water. Never refilled them on asking multiple times. This shows that he lacks basic etiquette of hospitality.
When asked for recommendations, he said he was not sure. Never enquired about food post serving or check on us during the complete meal. I had to look for him to order more meals. He was irresponsible & unattentive. We ordered Ice-tea which had too much of sweetness, but when we put it to his attention, he bluntly picked up & delivered it later as if he made a favour by replacing it. Also, he made no effort When I pointed out that I'm not enjoying my time here in the restaurant. There was no remorse about it. In fact, to pay my bill, I had to pursue it. I paid my bill not on my table in fact where they print it.

Need to improve:
Concierge: I was looking for infant medicine therefore I've reached out to Amex Concierge which in return turned to Taj Concierge. But Taj Concierge was not able to locate it. They probably just called a few chemists & gave up. I just did a simple Google Search and found it in Thane. Using WeFast I arranged to pick it up myself. They could have been more concerned & helpful.

But there is no way I'm going to give a bad review because of one person whereas others went beyond to make my stay such a memorable one.

Good luck team, looking forward to meeting you again.

We stayed at Taj Mahal Tower for one night on 10th july and felt should have stayed for one more. The hotel was booked almost full, I guess by looking at crowd around. Though I forgot that we are in a pandemic here, It was overall a good experience. The best part was the view from 19th floor of the hotel. The rooms were clean and ready before my arrival. They also gave me early check in at 2 instead of 3pm and late check out at 1 pm instead of 11am on request. The room toiletries were from forest essentials.I loved their thoughtfulness of providing towels(wellspun) of every size for the convenience. Their towels and bedding were bright white which gave a super clean feel. Not a single speck of dirt or dust was found on the furniture. Provision of sanitizers at every few steps in the hotel, elevator, lobby, etc was commendable. Smiling and polite staff guided us frequently at various restaurants and made sure we are enjoying our meals. They don't hover on you to make you feel uncomfortable so my privacy and photo session was respected too. They had artist corner with huge set of Faber castle pencil colours to indulge in some art activity.Overall I had no issues except for bill settlement at checkout.. I was charged more than the deal but upon questioning and showing the mail interaction I had, my bill was settled immediately at the fixed deal amount with an apology. Every body who can afford it, must stay here atleast once in your lifetime.

The overall stay was great, few things to call out.
1) Food – was sceptical in the beginning about the set menu, my exp at Fort Aguada was not that great in 2017 where we had to chose from very few options. Taj Mahal Mumbai hit it out of the park, several options to chose from across restaurants. The food was the best I have had at any IHCL property till date, both in terms of taste and portion size
2) Heath & Social distancing – Getting a table before showing you at the restaurant is a good idea to reduce crowding. Hand sanitizers everywhere and enforcing mask, even when guests were getting up to grab food from counter, is good.
3) Good checking in process – completely virtual, uploading soft copies and even auth on card enhanced the experience both from pandemic & usually lengthy check-in process.
Our reservation mentioned free upgrade, was hoping to get a higher floor, even though it was showing online, at the counter I was told its difficult as it’s Sunday. A higher floor would have made the deal sweeter. The room we stayed in was good, no regrets.

I found that the rooms were quite standard, not too big, simplistic interior, not too luxurious, just enough to get by. I would not have been disappointed if it was any other hotel, but maybe I had higher expectations from ‘the’ Taj Mahal. I had received a complementary upgrade to the 19th floor for which I was very grateful, but it also made me wonder if this was the upgrade then what would other rooms be like? There are no bath tubs in the Taj Mahal Tower except in the Apollo suite, odd. I had to request for coffee and bathrobes as they were not already present in the room. What seemed most odd to me is that there was no handwash in the room’s washroom, there was a butter soap instead. While that gets the job done, I still would have preferred a handwash over soap as the prior is more contactless to the latter. My package included set meals lunch, dinner along with breakfast at the Shamiana. While the food was great, the service was a tad bit too slow, often involving considerate wait time before the courses arrived. I understand that it was because a fresh meal was being prepared, but I often found that some guests got served the same course before me despite having arrived after me. The biggest turn off was the limited options in the Shamiana menu. The options were so limited that deep down I was grateful my stay was only for one day, as I would not know what to eat from the same options the next day! Only 3 desserts? What was equally surprising was that for the next day breakfast, even the juices were packaged! I understood that precautions were being observed due to covid-19 but the least that could have been done was serve fresh juice and not packaged ones. I was surprised a respectable brand like Taj adding to the plastic waste at places where it could be avoided such as the packaged juice or even the bottled water in the room, albiet being a standard procedure worldwide, I would love to see reusable glass bottles replace the plastic ones in the future. I celebrated my birthday at the hotel, in lieu of the same, the hotel staff had put over some balloons in my room and a cake later at night. Although i greatly appreciate the effort, i would have take a decent bouquet anyday for the balloons. Overall, the staff was courteous, polite and one thing that lived upto expectations. Perhaps I had high hopes, perhaps the image built over more than a century naturally pushes up expectations one would normally have when the name Taj is associated, perhaps some improvements are needed. I received a great deal for the price I paid for which I am ever-so-grateful but it makes me wonder if the experience I had would have been value for money if the rates were normal and higher than what I had to bear under the offer.

Am a huge fan of the Taj group of hotels, they provide unparalleled service with a smile in all of their properties. So it was an easy choice to make for our first visit after the lockdown when we had to go to Mumbai (as a family) due to some work and make a mini vacation out of it. I've found the rooms in the Towers very small but the location always makes up for it

Lots of changes : Services are only partially open (no pool, spa for example) + your car / baggage has to be brought in from outside (no driving inside the gate) + masks / sanitisation ensured through the property (which made us feel safe).

Service levels though - in terms of when you order food in the restaurant or room service - are distinctly lower / take longer than previously, though you can make out the staff is trying it's best. They do seem to be understaffed and you can literally feel the pressure they're under as the friendly staff tries their best to cope. If previously one person looked after two tables, now it's 6 tables, just to give perspective. And this was everywhere, even in the Golden Dragon

Would love to visit again when things are closer to normal. Special thanks to Anant (he's part of the F&B team) for making a great effort to look after us.

Overlooking the Gateway of India the sea side rooms have an understated elegance like most Taj hotel rooms. Nothing in your face but everything in perfect synchrony, soothing and appealing your senses. A balcony which gives a beautiful view of The Gateway of India where you can spend hours and hours just gazing at the view. If this was not enough what takes the cake is the service they provide. Taj truly is an epitome of outstanding service. Right from the time you checkin you are pampered like a king. Every little detail is taken care of. My mother and my 2 year old both were treated so well it gave me immense satisfaction. They genuinely care about their guests and that reflects in their service. Janice at Shamiana made sure our dinner was nice. Sunny again at Shamiana checked if he could get us anything else for breakfast. These are the gems of the The Taj Mahal, Mumbai. There was a duty manager (sorry don’t remember his name) who came to the room in the evening to check if the stay was comfortable. It’s each and every staff member that you make you feel special. The staff, the iconic location and the hotel being iconic in itself made us choose The Taj Mahal Mumbai for a staycation twice in the span of 2 months and would love coming back here. Thank you for the memories and each and every staff member that interacted with us. You guys are truly creating a benchmark in hospitality. Can’t wait to visit again.

People right at the porch, front desk to IRD are all praise worthy. I checked in on a weekday and found less chaos around. Check in was super quick and my luggage reached my room in no time. I had booked myself for a sea view room and it looked over Gateway of India. The room was spacious and was so the balcony. It had all the amenities that you might need in your stay and whatever wasn’t kept in the room was available on request. They have started doing away with plastic water bottle and keep fresh water from their water plant in rooms in glass bottles. Forest essential products are used in the bathroom. A personal safety kit (gloves, mask, sanitizer) is kept on your table. Breakfast had decent options to choose from and IRD was almost on time (within 30-35mins) with food. Concierge was helpful in directing me during COVID of what could I do and could not. Taxis are a click away because of it’s location. Colaba causeway, marine drive are pretty close. Airport is 45-60 mins away depending on traffic. It was worth the money I paid.

On arrival at Mumbai it was on our bucket list to have a cocktail at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The venue and ambience was so stunning we booked to stay at the Taj Tower the following night. The warm welcome began upon arrival together with the detail to security which was reassuring. Warm greetings were extended during check-in with complimentary gifts, the reception was beautiful and despite our early arrival (those that follow my reviews on this site will understand why we beat a hasty retreat from our first location in Mumbai) we were admitted to our rooms on arrival. Beautiful is an inadequate adjective to describe our room and view of the gateway to India, I’m at a loss to find words to describe the wonder of this hotel, warm staff, attention to detail, opulent decor, stunning pool and on a personal note , my yoga class at 7.30am was so peaceful ( it must have been good as I rarely see that time of the morning), followed by a swim and the steam room staffed by the most lovely lady who had the room ready for me in preparation after my swim. The contrast to our previous location added to the beauty of the Taj Tower as it was a privilege to experience the diversity that encompasses India, but.... the Taj Tower is and will always remain a special place xx

Staying at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai has been on my family’s bucket list for quite a while. With the ongoing pandemic situation, it finally became a reality with the the reassurance of the Taj brand. Located at the heart of Mumbai facing the Gateway of India, the Taj Mahal Tower has captured the old-world charm of a palace while also effortlessly merging it with modern amenities. It boasts the most celebrated location in Mumbai and is full of historic splendor that treasures quintessential Indian culture and historical heritage. The hotel is situated on the seafront and offers panoramic views of the epochal Gateway of India, the Arabian Sea, and dazzling city skyline that can be enjoyed from the rooms. One can find a variety of exclusive shops and restaurants nearby and this monumental property makes an excellent base for exploring the city’s attractions as well.

The Tower lavishly offers rooms that blend contemporary and Indian styles. The hotel's magnificent public areas feature countless antiques, silk carpets, crystal chandeliers, historical paintings, and contemporary art. In addition, the hotel consists of numerous restaurants that serve a variety of scrumptious cuisines. The dining experiences in these delightful restaurants was supremely enjoyable for my family.

It is the human touch which makes the difference and the staff here are very welcoming and dedicated to further enhance one’s pleasant stay. I truly have to heartily thank all the staff at the Taj Mahal Tower for industriously making our stay so memorable. Special thanks to Arzaan, front office manager who graciously greeted my family & generously helped us arrange our stay and Sandeep from the front desk who personally organized our meal reservations thus enabling my family to try various delectable meals offered here. Kevin from the breathtaking sea lounge restaurant as well as Prashant, Divyesh, and Pankaj from the splendid Shamiana restaurant went above and beyond to cater to our meal preferences and make our dining experiences extraordinary. In notable addition, Sudha and her team from housekeeping were extremely hospitable and enabled us to stay in a immaculate, lovely room to celebrate a special occasion for my parents. Every staff member I encountered — from the valet to the check-in to the housekeeping to the spa staff — were delightful and eager to help. The bar was anyways high with the Taj brand and the staff at thr Taj Mahal Towers took it even a notch higher.

I cannot praise this hotel enough for its impeccable service and vast range of amenities and food choices. Overall, my family and I enjoyed a great stay at the Taj Mahal Tower and would highly recommend this place to anyone who is seeking an unforgettable stay at the heart of South Mumbai.

YES, Taj Mahal hotel at Colaba have connecting rooms which are usually booked by parents with 2 children above the age of 12. 12 years and above are considered as adults for a hotel charge and thus, usually not allowed to share the parents' room without a fuss.
