Customer service - Well above the Serbian average.
Front lobby, conference fascilities, restaurants & pool - All very impressive, given the obvious budgetary restrictions of the hotel.
Rooms - Spacious with good views and large windows, however, the furniture is very basic and the beds and bed sheets and bed covers were absolutely inadequate. Bring your own covers!
As for the rooms...they were probably quite nice 30 years ago. Now, he pillows were the most unsanitary I have seen since basic training. The TV had a remote control with no labels for the buttons, the phone did not work and was a rotary, the bathroom had insects crawling on the floor, and a 1/2 roll of toilet paper.
The loud band playing to some sort of group in the lobby continued into the wee hours and was clearly auduble through the entire hotel.
I can forgive a somewhat decayed infrastructure in Serbia but stupid closing hours, really really bad food, and general uncleanliness is not accpetible in a country with such cheap and available food and a low cost of labor.
Absolutely stay away until this hotel is rennovated and the staff brought up to standard.
First of all, when you come in the hotel, you can see a reception and a restaurant with a buffet. Restaurant smelled weird, had fresh, but not tasty food.
Our room was horrible. A lot of bugs flew all over our ceiling, mirror and lock were broken, and so was the tv. Carpet was full of old bubble gums, pillows and matresses were not clean at all, and we couldn't open our windows. If you don't have to, don't go to this "3☆ hotel".
We had a double room with no balcony but it's not a problem at all. The problems are old and dirty furniture, dirty walls, the bathroom is a place where you should enter only if you have to. The carpets and the curtains are full of dust, the TV barely works. We didn't take our things out of the bag in those three days. It wasn't a pleasant stay.
Now, the hotel has a swimming pool and sauna and it's a better part. The breakfast was "WOW!", something I really didn't expect, with a plenty of various food, with some local specialties. It was a four, maybe a five star hotel breakfast.
Hotel location is very good also, on the main promenade, near the city center.
It can be a good hotel, but with a big financial investment first.
It appears that there was no major investment in refurbishment of the hotel interior, furniture and equipment ever since.
The hotel is owned and managed by the MoD, the aspect that has good sides (competitive prices in comparison with other accommodation options in Vrnjačka Banja, as well as strict standards in food obtaining and preparation).
Bad sides are the old school management style that resembles 1980's approach to maintenance, offering and service.
In the room, we were welcomed by the ants in bed and on the night table, which situation was resolved immediately after we have reported that to the reception desk.
The food is good in terms of both the quality, the way it was prepared, and in terms of quantity.
The water in the swimming pool is chilling cold, but still swimming is possible after getting acquainted.
The worse experience was sensing the tobacco smoke in the dining room, which was coming from the cigarettes smoked by the restaurant staff (!!!) in the smaller part of the dining room.
After second time this has happened, I had to report it to the person in charge (names and mobile phone numbers are clearly stated next to the elevator doors), and this has not happened anymore.
The hotel staff is professional, polite and ready to assist guests, even when it requires turning the blind eye to the decision of the hotel director that the ramp to access the main entrance should not be lifted up for cars of the arriving guests (!!!).
At the end of our stay, the total bill was a fraction what you would pay at other places. All in all, the region is quite rich in history and hotel could arrange some trips to many monasteries in radius of 50-70 km (day trips) but we did it on our own and enjoyed every moment of our stay there.
