The hotel gives a great first impression with staff on hand to meet the ferry from Split and take the luggage. The hotel itself is only a 5 minute walk away and on arrival we were given a glass of sparkling wine which is always a good start! As our room wasn’t ready (check in time is officially 2pm and the ferry arrived at midday) we took our bubbles to the outside terrace to sip while we waiting for our room to be ready. The hotel is in a great location and there was plenty to watch while we waited.
The reception is spacious and elegant and the reception staff were all very friendly and helpful. When we got to our room, it was small but perfectly adequate. The swimming pool is a great size and never seemed busy. The outside deck has plenty of space for sunbathing and the rooftop bar is has a wonderful view.
A decent waiter-served breakfast was included.

The Adriana’s harborfront location and pleasant, professional staff make it our choice every year. MARIA, TOMISLAV, PETAR, and others are what make the Adriana a four star hotel. The best rooms are the relatively new suites on the top (4th) floor; 404 is the best with the most space, as a corner, and the best use of space with the room configuration. These are the only rooms with good bathroom configuration, such as walk in showers from which the water does not spill all over the floor, decent counter space, and electrical outlets. The hotels’ buffet breakfast has declined in quality and scope in recent years, however, with a much more narrow scope of options (no hard boiled eggs, very few low calorie protein options, and very miniscule fruit choices) and a tendency not to replenish after 9 am. I wish that they would install electrical outlets in all the room bathrooms with installed hair dryers as well, instead of having the hair dryer in the living room drawer.

We stayed at the Adriana Hvar and were not impressed based on the price we paid. The service was inconsistent- we received no information about the hotel ammenities on arrival, we had to ask to get housekeeping, there was no turn down service as mentioned on the website, and the free bottle of wine included in our booking we had to actually pay for on check out. Staff were not welcoming nor friendly and the spa terrace room that we booked (which was extra in price) was a corner room with limited sunlight, located on the lower floors with a door that was difficult to open.
The breakfast was really nice and we enjoyed sitting on the deck with the lovely views in the morning.
Hvar was a beautiful island and we had a great time exploring it. We would recommend visiting Hvar however, staying somewhere other than Adriana Hotel.

Just not worth it.
As we entered at 9pm two young ladies made a comment there are no check-ins for the night and once we determined the mistake that our agent booed us at the wrong Adriana hotel they said let’s check for the room availability. That’s when they started speaking in Croatian, saying - oh they are stranded it’s 9:30pm now, what the hell are they gonna do here at this time, let’s up this rate for the Americans they are dumb anyway, in those very words ! I speak fluent Croatian.
One blond lady said the price of €450 for the “suite” ( which was horrible btw ) the second said let’s up higher at €600 and lastly one that booked us said €650 it is and smiled at us. I repeated €650 are you sure in English and she confirmed yep €650. It’s not about the price that angered me this is the prime season at Mediterranean it’s the aftermath.
We paid the rate, the brunette that checked us in goes on saying what a horrible person her boss (GM) is and she might like her better when she calls and tells her she sold the last suite ( she did call her immediately while we were standing there like idiots tired, not mentioning the price or anything inappropriate she said about us ). I was fuming but didn’t want to make a scene since my mother-in law was with us. I said I’ll wait for the next morning.
Managers there very useless. Never seen a GM or heard from her.
Everyone else at the hotel were nice at the bar and restaurant
Rooms are horrible.
Glass bathroom with wood work that is gross when it gets wet and can’t be maintained well and giant jacuzzi that takes so much space you can’t open and suitcase in a room
Hotel has some weird purple and pink cheesy lights and giant closets like anyone is staying there for a month. Space was not used well at all and this was a “suite” with a horrible pullout sofa. It’s a weird decor some crazy looking wood woven lamps that take too much space and one wasn’t working.
Two outlets were not working
Iron was leaking
Water was not complementary
Lovely location but for the price you can stay elsewhere where you are respected. I found out this was a chain it didn’t feel like it at all. Standard procedures like introduction to the property or bellman are non existent. I book this based on reviews and I was very very disappointed. Never again.

Hotel is closed. They accept bookings and send you to a much cheaper mass tourism hotel with a cruise ship style buffet. AVOID at all costs. They will not adjust price. Ruined our holiday. No recourse other than disputing with our credit card.

WE have stayed at the Adriana for years and have usually loved our experience there. Last year (2021), our experience was less than perfect and less than satisfactory. There are 2 main reasons: (1) Croatia was just reopening to tourists during Covid, so the number of tourists / room bookings were low; and (2) the ownership company had just opened the neighboring Hotel Palace Elisabeth after a great capital investment so guests and staff were being redirected there.

We were surprised to learn about #2 - no one had contacted us prior to checking into the hotel that the Adriana would be closing temporarily although indefinitely two days later. They should have at least sent us an email so we would know that we would have to plan to move from the Adriana to the Elisabeth and, in so doing, lose a great deal of time during one day for the transfer -- and they could have made some kind of gesture or reimbursement for the hassle and opportunity cost.

Also, importantly, the Adriana had turned OFF the air conditioning system (you know how in Europe it is all or nothing for the entire building depending on whether they have turned on or off the cooling or heating systems, usually on preplanned dates regardless of the actual weather). This was the last week of May and we always choose hotels based on reliable, cool, self adjustable AC. We were shocked. The front desk staff said that German guests had complained that the rooms were too cold, so they turned off the AC since the hotel was closing in 2 days anyway.

Best aspects of Adriana:
1. The staff, especially Petar, Tomislav, Jaksa, and Vlado. They remember us each year and treat us like friends. We always look forward to seeing them. They are helpful, proactive, professional, and teach us new Croatian words each trip.
2. The breakfast setting on the outdoor terrace overlooking the harbor. Of all of the hotels we have been to along the Croatian coast, the very best setting is at the Adriana, with the sunshine, the sailboats, and the view of the fortress. The breakfast itself used to be much better; last year (this visit) the selections were more sparse and less healthy, less fresh, and less appealing.

Less appealing aspects of the Adriana
1. the AC was NOT working, which made it very difficult to sleep.
2. the rooms are in dire need of renovation. The floors are scratched and dirty; the wiring with no electrical outlets in the bathrooms has to finally be fixed; the hair dryer in the living room closet simply is not acceptable and is inconvenient; and the little frigs often are old, not working, or leaking.

Ideal location overlooking the tiny harbor of Hvar City, this boutique hotel offers amazing views from each room, restaurant patio, and rooftop bar. Rooms are small, but you are compensated with breathtaking views and the best breakfast offerings in all of Croatia. Our two-stay there was fabulous, walking distance to great restaurants and beaches.

While the hotel and grounds are lovely, the lack of air conditioning (the hotel front desk told us to close the windows and wait, which did not work) and the all~night party and shouting resulted in a terrible night’s sleep. Also, the hotel staff started vacuuming the lobby at 5am which I could clearly hear. Find another place in Hvar to stay.

I think context is important so we are first timers to
Hvar from the US. Experienced European travelers.

With that said after extensive pouring over reviews I’m really disappointed in our stay here, especially for the price. I realize you are likely paying for the view and location but I do feel there has to be better options.

The food: it was incredibly difficult to get anyone’s attention during the breakfast. 2 out of the 3 days the omelettes were made incorrectly. There were flies all over the buffet. The staff working the buffet seemed downright miserable.

The room: it was way too dark. The shower leaked all over the floor, the bathroom vent kept falling off. The wind was blowing the shutters so we tried to
Close it with the lock but that was broken too. The hairdryer was in the foyer and unable to be moved. Housekeeping made the bed but didn’t Chen towels. We had a room on the 4th floor which absolutely smelled as a result of the chlorine from
The pool on the 5th floor.

The Conceirge: probably the worst experience I’ve ever had from a concerige. She was rude and condescending about the choices we were making. She is clearly on commission for the “sales” she makes on tours and didn’t provide the information we really need such as related to water taxis etc. We stopped by the front desk to try to talk to
Other locals about the information we
Were looking for to which she promptly interrupted and mocked us for asking other people the same questions we asked her. We asked her to
Make restaurant reservations and never heard back and had to track her down to confirm. We told her we were looking for a high end beach club experience and the place she referred us to has horrible reviews. She never asked a single question about our intentions interests or even how long we were there for. Even after telling her about our sea sickness she continued to push private boat tours.

The whole experience with the Conceirge dampened our time. I would only recommend stay here if you don’t need assistance with anything and don’t care about the functionality of your room.

On the plus side, a perfect location, helpful staff with a special thanks to Marina at the front desk, who is wonderful. Rooms with a balcony are a splurge, but worth it. A generous breakfast is included. I had a great stay.

A couple of negatives. First, the breakfast menu is well-conceived, has many seemingly good choices, but in my experience, none of the options tasted very good. (Sort of like a Twilight Zone episode where they are trying to replicate the taste that humans like but can’t get it quite right.) Second, regular rooms are on the smallish side, maybe a little over 200 sq. feet. Finally, COVID. I am grateful to have hotel workers back so that travelers can once again travel. However, I’m confused by the policy on masks. Some workers behind the front desk wore no mask, some wore it under their chin (presumably with the option to pull it up though I did not see it exercised), and some/most wore it under their nose. The housekeeper who came to our room when we were there had no mask. Some servers at breakfast wore a mask and some wore it under their nose. I understand that I may be in the minority with these concerns, but I thought I’d share the thoughts in case other travelers were interested in the hotel’s policy on masks (or implementation of the policy).

I do not know the answer. I recommend that you contact the hotel. When we were there we had a room with a king-sized bed and there was enough room so a cot or two could be added. As you probably already know, the Adriana is outstanding with a great location, good food, and a friendly and helpful staff.
