I recently stayed here for a few days. The staff were extremely helpful. The hotel itself is in a beautiful setting and offers a good choice of Chinese and Western cuisine. Rooms are comfortable with balconies overlooking the garden & river. I highly recommend it for anybody looking for a relaxing break.

I have wanted to stay at this hotel for many many years and when I finally did, it didn’t disappoint. Wow!! I actually squeaked when I was shown my room and ‘that’ view. Balcony river views are 100% worth it. I spent many an hour just sitting on my balcony or bed watching the river and shifting light. The hotel is in a perfect location and you really can do as little or as much as you like. With many trips on offer plus open to all my suggestions, their driver seemed always available for me! Saying that, the hotel is also a perfect location snd starting point for beautiful walks/bike rides. And only 15 minute walk away from the bamboo rafting station. The room was perfect with a beautiful, huge 4 poster bed, great air con, fridge, hair dryer and lots of plug and charger sockets. The restaurant has a Chinese and western menu and the food was great. I loved the ginger tea! I would revisit in a heartbeat. …

Beautiful resort, very helpful staff members! The staff members spoke great English and helped us a lot to organize taxi's, tours, and even train tickets when our flight was cancelled. The helpful staff is what makes this resort great. The resort grounds were beautiful, next to the river with the bamboo rafts. There was a nice path along the river you can walk and relax. The restaurant had Chinese and Western dishes. The rooms were clean with working A/C. The resort tries to be eco-friendly with glass bottles to fill your drinking water. It's about a 15 minute taxi ride to West St. in Yangshuo where the food and shopping area is. Will stay again.

If you're looking for a four star hotel, this is not for you. If you are looking for a great place to stay in the Yangshuo area, this is a great place. While the building is older, the rooms are spacious and comfortable with a private sitting balcony. The restaurant produces excellent Chinese cuisine and the location nearby the wier on the Yangshuo River provides plenty of entertainment watching the bamboo boats diving over the wier with a splash and the delightful squealing of the highly recommended.

Dear Pennie, thank you for your 5-star review! We appreciate you pointing out that we are not a typical hotel, but an eco-lodge. Instead of a gym, we have a riverfront walking path and free bike rental. Instead of a swimming pool, we have a natural waterfall. Instead of store-bought furnishings, ours are antiques or locally made, some cut from the bamboo that grows on our property. For the past 22 years, we have continuously upgraded our facilities, including our showers this Winter. While we do not pride ourselves on having all the newest hardware, installed for Instagram or WeChat moments, we are all about comfort and especially the software - our amazing team of local people. We spent 3 nights in this hotel with family, 3 couples. It is located on the most beautiful spot on the Yulong river. Staff is very helpful. Food is excellent, we had dinner all 3 nights here. nearly half of the guests were foreigner. We also visited Yangshuo, West street, and found hardly any foreigners there. Also didn't think Yangshuo to be very interesting. Note that the website for bike tours was outdated when we were there. It mentioned that you could ride your bike to the end and go back with the bamboo rafts, taking the bike with you, but that isn't allowed anymore. Also the long stretch doesn't exist anymore, you can only do short stretches. Nevertheless one day we took the free bikes and had a beautiful tour along the river. We were the only ones taking regular bikes. All the others, Chinese, rented electric mopeds. All in all, we felt at home in this hotel.…

Great hotel! Nice, big rooms with balcony which (can) overlook their garden and the river. Nice to also have a Western and Chinese restaurant menu, either inside or on their lawn with an amazing view of the river and karst mountains.

This is by far the best place to stay in Yangshuo, which has become a bit of a Bali-esque zoo. The Mountain Retreat, however, is outside the congestion, at the start of the gorgeous bike trail through the valley/paddies. And there are free bikes to use right at the entrance. The rooms are comfortable, and face the river and mountains, just as pictured. The food is superb; both Chinese and Western cooking - which was helpful, as we traveled with an 11-year-old boy wanting pancakes and an 80-year-old grandmother preferring rice porridge. We never ate anywhere else, actually - there was no need. The smiling service and suggested activities were great, too. It was a relaxing, re-energizing trip and we will absolutely stay here again.

I don't think I've written a review before, but our stay at the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat was so amazing I was inspired to. INCREDIBLE setting right on the river. With lots of boats floating by and the beautiful mountains all around. This is a "must stay" place. Totally made our trip incredible. We particularly loved renting scooters (which we did through the hotel easily, and they're available everywhere along the roads as well) and exploring the rice paddy fields and surroundings. SUCH a beautiful place!

The last time my husband and I visited this lovely hotel was in 2006 when we were relatively newlyweds. We returned in 2023 with a teenager and had a wonderful time. The staff was just as wonderful and helpful as before. The scenery is still STUNNING (look out your window and see a Chinese watercolor painting stunning. It was peaceful and refreshing and reviving. I strongly recommend this hotel - it holds a special place in my own heart and Yangshou is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The hotel is an exceptional value for the price. Great comfortable rooms, good food, fantastic and attentive service, and lovely activities.

I had the most special hotel room I have ever had. The mixture of classical Chinese furniture and décor including a 4 poster bed that was just right. The view from my balcony was just indescribably awesome. While you could eat outside enjoying the view of the river and mountains, we went in late January and chose the dining room. Again with a wonderful collection of artwork and a cozy feel plus a real stone fireplace with a fire (something quite rare in China) giving a ski lodge feel and most welcome on a cold misty rainy day. Their homemade pasta was the best I have ever had in China and I have lived in Beijing for 27 years with a large selection of good Italian restaurants. We also really liked their local Guangxi dishes which were delicious as well. Finally the staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
