Central location, very close to the Amazonas theatre, the surroundings are empty at night and the hostel features high walls with barbed wire. The area requires the attention that every big city centre needs. Avoid walking alone at night, unless you go to the theater and come back. Outside this circuit is all desert.
I stayed in a mixed shared room on the first floor and shared female (Tucumã) on the 2nd floor. I found the second floor much better, quieter and with better quality of sleep. Clean bathrooms, in good quantity, always free, good air conditioning, spacious and comfortable living area that promotes interaction. Comfortable mattress and each bed has a "confidentiality curtain", besides lighting and individual outlet. The hostel offers "Day Use" option for 10 Reals up to midnight if after check-out you need to continue waiting, it is possible to use the hotel dependencies (Bathrooms, common area, swimming pool)
The only criticism was the manha coffee cost 25 reais, but the day I tried the pineapple and soft foot were sour (I thought they were exposed to heat for a long time)

Place with high spirits and attentive service. Groups of travelers meet and form friendships in the hostel's relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast with regional delicacies, delicious. There are varied rooms, with spaces for larger or smaller groups. Large bathrooms and always clean. Close to the wonderful Municipal Theater.

I spent 3 nights at Local Hostel Manaus and I can say that it is a good place to stay. Our room was clean as well as the sanitary facilities. AND: the breakfasts were simply perfect.
Also, the staff was very helpful, with a very good knowledge of English, and friendly. I can particularly mention Bruna, who did a really great job.
So if I come back to Manaus, I'll be happy to use Lthe services of Local Hostel again.
Thanks!

Stayed there the night before and after our jungle trip.
The personnel is very nice and helpful.
The dorms are nice and clean, the air conditioning works well and silently.
Fresh water dispenser at the reception (it saved my nights).
The kitchen was clean and so were the shared gym-like bathrooms, with many showers next to each other.
The wifi works but it's slow.
Smoking area/yard upstairs is nice but temperature, humidity and mosquitos make it hell (not the hostel's fault of course).
The breakfast was from 7 to 9:30 and it was pretty disappointing: not much choice but especially at 8:30 almost everything was gone and they would not refill the plates (when I asked if there were more papaya and melon they said no, but I saw there were more in the fridge behind the reception).
They can organize jungle trips with 3 or 4 of the main organizations in Manaus; we didn't use this service but it is very helpful for people who haven't booked anything yet.
After all, I recommend it.

Stayed here with my daughter and her husband for 2 nights. I am not used to staying in hostels but can recommend this one. We had a room for 4 which was comfortable and clean. The whole hostel is very well kept and run by very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good indeed. A very nice place to spend a few days in Manaus.

Me and my girlfriend have recently visited Manaus and stayed 5 nights at Local Hostel. The staff was very helpful and friendly in answering our many questions and gave us many good recommendations. The hostel, the room, the bathrooms are always clean and nothing is missing. For the fresh a rich breakfast buffet you have to pay ...but its a very reasonable price. Don't miss their bbq ...its good fun, too. The location is very good....you are just one block away from the theatre and restaurants and travel agencies. We totally recommend this hostel! Check it out!

Stayed here with 5 friends in November for 2 nights before and after an Amazon tour. We were looking for somewhere cheap and comfortable where we could rest after a long journey. I stayed in a premium double room which was basic but well furnished. The problem with this room (second floor) is the smoking area outside, where people gathered all through the night drinking and being very noisy. Not idea as we had to wake up at 4am for a flight, I barely slept. The receptionist seemed aware of the noise but didn't do anything about it. So not a great place to stay if you care about getting a decent nights sleep!

Dear Sophie. Thank you very much for your review! Our apologizes about the noisy in the night, here we have a policy of silence after 10PM. We count that our guests will respect this rule, but unfortunately, it doesn't happen. Our recepcionist in the night is aware now, so it won't happen again. I'm sorry again and thank you for your feedback. A big hug from Local Hostel's Team.

This place was cute and well organized...range of ages of those staying was interesting. It was clean. The AC was controlled from like 6pm to 9am and there are no fans, so I was miserable in my room trying to sleep off Amazon recovery, and the internet went out for 24 hours, which is a crime when you're in a hostel these days! :) But really - after spending a week in the jungle, all I wanted was AC and wifi. Kind of wish I'd stayed at a hotel for at least a night to be guaranteed those things. Great location. Breakfast was simple but yummy.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your review! My apologizes for the internet, but unfortunately it was a problem at the city so we couldn't do anything about it. =( We also have private rooms with air con all day long, so you don't need to book a hotel next time you stay in Manaus. =) We really aprecciate your feedback, thank you very much. A big hug from Local Hostel Team.

I hate to be the only person that didn't enjoy my stay here as much as everyone else on Trip Advisor. We stayed in a private room with a bathroom. The room was sparse, which is perfectly fine as I just need a place to sleep at night. However, the bathroom was beyond frustrating. The smell was horrible and smelled exactly like they cleaned the floor with a dirty, sour mop. (I know this because my first job was cleaning buildings...)
Other things: the shower drain was stopped up, so we were ankle-deep in bath water, and the shower curtain was ripped. The toilet seat didn't fit the toilet, and because of how it was hinged, you couldn't sit on it without sliding! We did let them know in a note, so hopefully these things will be fixed for future guests...
Notes:
- Fabulous location next to theater and square
- Towels are available with a deposit
- Wi-Fi was mostly strong
- Solid air conditioning in bedroom
- Cable TV is a nice bonus
- Very pleasant staff
- They will have someone pick you up at the airport for 60R.
- Breakfast variety is kinda small compared to the other 5 places we stayed at in SA.
- Filtered water available to guests
If you read Matthew V's review, it sounds downright ritzy as "really nice terrace upstairs" is really just three or four folding lawn chairs with a coconut shell you can use as an ashtray at a table.
To be perfectly realistic (with all bathroom rants aside), it's an affordable hostel with nice staff in a dynamite location.

Dear guest, First of all we would like to apologize for what happened. We recognize that there was a problem with the bathroom and that the drain in the shower was sttoped up. Unfortunately, when we realized it (when I read your note) it was already too late to try and fix it, and you had already checked out. We would also like to point that the cleanliness of the hostel is very important for us, and that the smell of the bathroom was probably coming from the stopped up drain. We are really sorry for that. We really appreciate the fact that you left us a note listing the problems, so that we could try and improve our services, and for that we would like to thank you. We hope in a diferent oportunity, if you ever come back to Manaus, we could have you as our guest once again to try to change this not so good image you had of our hostel. Best regards from all the Local Hostel Manaus staff.
