You have to handle stairs - down and then up - to get to the rooms. There is no elevator. However, the staff will help you with your luggage.
The staff was very nice. We are Portuguese speakers so I am not sure if they spoke any other languages. My guess is no, except from some Spanish. The one thing that bugged me big time was that nobody seem to know the area well. We asked for recommendations on where to go for lunch/dinner and all we got was - "we just live in Manaus, we don't go out much, try Fiorentina" - my 2-cents: Fiorentina is OK once, it was expensive and the food is not that great. North on Avenida Getulio Vargas there are a couple of restaurants and ice cream parlours that the hotel staff never mentioned to us - and I sincerely think that they were not just trying to drive people to Fiorentina.
I can see why some people complained about the doors, they have large gaps around the frame and never look like they are properly locked. If you are a safety freak this may scare you. We did not have any issues and learned to live with it.
We wanted to stay longer in the city but not be charged for the nights that we spent out during our jungle trips. The hotel was able to accommodate our request, we checked out and had our luggage held in a locked room behind reception.
Just a note about the area: South of Avenida 7 de Setembro where Central is located is also where most of the street vendors concentrate. The streets can get very dirty and crowded during the day. The area North of 7 de Setembro, closer to the Teatro de Manaus is better in that respect.
On the morning before our departure, I took my last hot shower before going into the jungle, where there was going to be no hot water supply. Half way through my shower, hot water went out together with light. When I turned off hot water, light came back. When I turned on water again, light went off and water remained cold - so I had to finish my shower in darkness with cold water! Very upsetting!
Upon returning from our jungle trip, we stayed in the hotel again (because I have prepaid and there is no refund). The new room had hot shower, but the curtain was broken, so we were awoken 6am when the sun came out. Also, my husband got zapped when he touched the shower head. I think this hotel has serious problem. Ok, their WIFI was very good, breakfast reasonable and the staff, although don't speak English, tried to help. However, safety comes first and I think this is a hotel to be avoided.
The rooms here are basic but nice. The wifi signal is strong, and there is airconditioning in all the rooms. The included breakfast is good too.
We walked to the square where the Amazon theatre is, which was fine during daylight, but was recommended to take a taxi back, which was very cheap.
The square is very nice with good restaurants and a lively audience.
We won't stay here again, but rather in one of the better hotels in town, for the same price
