This was the first time my wife and i were staying in a JR chain hotel from 3/5/2023-5/5/2023. We arrived from Kumamoto as part of our Kyushu Trip. There was some initial frustration as google maps led us to the old hotel premises which was stated closed and caused us much panic. We tried to call the hotel to describe our location( back of thenJR station) but there was some language barriers. So we based on our own finding to reach the front station where the hotel was. I hope the hotel can do something about this as this causes unnecessary stress and frustration to incoming guests. Either inform google to completely remove the old location pin or provide more clearer instructions for arriving guests. Overall being a JR hotel we were satisfied location wise. You can travel to many parts of kitakyushu or even fukuoka being station linked. There is also 2 or 3 malls linked to station with restaurants and shopping abound. For basic amenities like toothbrush, razors, shower gels sachets these can be self picked up at the corner of the main lobby. The bed was also comfortable though slightly on the firmer side. Although the room and beds were generally clean, the carpets were stained and aged. However we were both satisfied with the experience and would make this a prime choice in future when we return

This hotel is just next to the JR station Kokura and quiet an old property, which need immediate revamp. We booked this hotel, based on our earlier good experiences with JR Hotel in Sendai, Tohoku. We got a smelly room and the duty manager is helpful to change the room immediately. Break fast is quiet good with live omelette station and the chef there was accommodative to prepare as per the guest's needs.

Spotlessly clean, great shower, very nice breakfast included, very speedy service both in and out, and right at Kokura station. The hotel has lots of good points. The rooms are small, although not too small; check in time is 3 pm.

I chose the JR Kyushu for a meeting in the conference center nearby. It was easy to reach from Fukuoka Airport, conveniently located inside the train station, well maintained. I had breakfast and dinner, which was very good. The dinner menu was only in Japanese, but very friendly staff and good images helped me to select what I wanted.
I would definitely chose this again next time.

This hotel may have non-smoking floors, but we stupidly did not ensure our friend's requested the same.

The amount of cigarette smell in the hot stuffy corridors was enough to produce nausea.

The room didn't initially smell ( probably because of comparison with the corridors.

I certainly would not bring any child under the age of 2 here because of their increased risk of cot death.

We have visited Japan eight times now.....those of you who have read my other reviews.....thank you.....you will also know that I'm very honest.....so here goes.....This was our second time staying at Kokura and the first time staying at the Station Hotel Kokura. If you are travelling internationally, we are from Australia, you have suitcases hand luggage etc, what an absolute dream to have your hotel actually at the Shinkansen Train Station, sitting on top actually. Those of us with a mild obsession with the Japanese Shinkansen will appreciate exactly how close you are, you exit the station flash your rail pass go up the escalator and there you are, at the entrance to the Station Hotel Kokura. There are two entrances to the hotel the one we went in meant catching the hotel's lift to the lobby and reception desk to check in. The staff were very professional, friendly and conversation was not an issue. Generally I find if you are nice to the people you are speaking to then they are nice back to you.....if you make an effort, then they will too.....just a little dig at some of the other comments I have read regarding the staff. We thought they were fabulous.
We had a twin room on fifteenth floor, so we had some beautiful views. We were not at all disturbed by any noise from the station, couldn't hear anything from the Station. The room was immaculate, twin beds, small coffee table and two comfy chairs, clothes cupboard, mini refrigerator, complimentary toiletries, bathroom with combined shower/bath, etc, kettle, water bottles, and beautiful sleepwear after your evening shower before retiring into a very comfy (not at all hard) bed! Loved it!
Yes there is a TV, with only Japanese TV channels, gee really! You are in Japan after all - my advice - try exploring the beautiful city of Kokura and it's surrounds, at the end of the day, try watching a bit of Japanese TV, the Japanese soapies are so funny, even the Japanese game shows are entertaining, so what if you can't understand the words, just enjoy it, get a good night's sleep and go exploring again!
We have also found, when we are in Japan on holidays, we pack so much into our sightseeing etc, it's comforting to know your belongings are secure.
We opted to eat out as we travel around so much, so can't comment on the food choices.
Before we left, we decided to go exploring the hotel, on the upper floors they have their own chapel for Weddings, bridal hire, hair salon, and everyone we saw were only to happy to show off their beautiful hotel.
My only negative comment - minor but continues to be an issue for travellers - no guest laundry - it would be an even better stay if you could do a load of laundry when you are there - still a *****Five Star Experience*****

I just spent 10 days in this Hotel. Very conveniently located hotel near many restaurants and has several itself. Very quiet and really clean and really helpful staff. As an airline pilot I wish my company would use hotels of this standard.24 hr cafe and bar a bonus.

Room Type: Double

The Good:
- Location is hard to beat, it's right on top of the JR station (shinkansen interchange)
- Lots of restaurants and shops

The Bad:
- Small room with aging decor

The Noteworthy:
- This is the kind of hotel one might book for a short layover where amenities and comforts are secondary to travel convenience. For that, it fits the bill.

Location: Entrance is right on the JR Exit gate. Excellent location.. some shops (not to expect like Tokyo type of dept stores, dim and quiet) and restaurants.

Room: Spacious, clean, excellent for value.

Hotel ground: the design and cleanliness and decor is beyond my expectations.

Service: Staff are very helpful before arrival , emails reply swift and with good info. very friendly and efficient service. We are pleased.

Overall it is an excellent hotel if you stay in Kokura as a hub. I was delighted to stay this one night.
