Oaga Art Resort checks all the boxes for a small family travelling with a tiny one! Our son is 8 months old and he LOVED the weekend we spent in this charming resort! The convenient 40 minute speedboat ride and proximity to Male' was an initial deciding factor, and from the moment we arrived, we knew we found the perfect getaway! Our little guy's squeals of delight started from the lovely welcome dance, and went on, all the way till the end of the trip. Huge highlight for us, as I'm sure for most families travelling with babies would be, was the gorgeous beach villas, with high ceilings, colourful decor and the open and inviting layout - we didn't have a bored moment and spent most of our weekend soaking up the sun and all snuggles in our villa. The staff felt like friends, the food was amazing, and the all inclusive deal was excellent. As a Maldivian, seeing the way Oaga Art Resort has incorporated the history, culture, folklore and art into the aesthetics, decor, concept and the story of the resort is amazing to see. We hope to be returning frequently!

10/5 family experience! ❤️ Got to spend New Years with my wife and two kids at the resort. The concept and product was something new that I have not seen in any other resort in the Maldives. Every corner is filled with local art of which I learnt each artist earns from every resort stay. The owners of the property are very involved and have managed to create an atmosphere with their team where everyone makes you feel very special. The entire team feels like they get up every day super motivated to serve the guests! The deal for all inclusive is brilliant. I particularly like all day dining option with a wide range of food options. I’d recommend the Sami Burger if you wanna eat late night and Coconut Crème Brûlée. It was truly exceptional. Sami is the name of the resort manager and is a lovely guy. Our butler was Nee! There was nothing we could not count on her for. Anything we asked for was facilitated. And immediately she bonded with my kids (normally they don’t leave us). But on the first day itself, she made both my kids comfortable enough to go alone with her at the kids club, where they had planned several things to do. It’s always nice for parents to get a break from kids 😀 so a big big thanks to Nee! The event on New Years night with the fire dancers, fire works and food was so well planned and everyone at the resort was enjoying like it was one big family. Oh! And also, we bumped into the Vice President of Maldives on New Years night which was nice. Totally loved it our stay. PS we saw bioluminescent planktons during our stay

Room Tip: I’d recommend to book the A frame rooms if you are with a family and they open the staff dining...

Oh where to begin… Oaga is the resort I didn’t even know that I was dreaming of and I’m so grateful that it exists. We initially went for a 2 night stay after visiting another resort. We instantly extended to 6 nights and then eventually - 11 nights. And we still weren’t ready to leave. Everything that you experience at Oaga has depth. The resort is Maldivian family owned. No big chains here. And you feel it the minute that you arrive. Staff members operate by the resort values rather than policies and rules. Everything is possible. Expression flows freely and the staff are creative, talented and assertive as a result. Of course, everything is brand new. While we were there we saw the Sun loungers unpacked, the buggies arrive and when we went scuba diving the gear still had protective seals on. I was expecting teething issues… other than our shower needing a temperature tweak when we first arrived we didn’t experience a single issue - only people keen to find creative ways to deliver. We were lucky to be there for New Year’s Eve. They went above and beyond and the atmosphere was just so gorgeous. The main bar has the most impressive sound system and when the occasion calls for it - the party vibe is ON! At the same time, I could easily have been sat on the loungers out back of my villa entirely aware that the other guests were having a party. The staff are mega talented. Several nights during our stay they had impromptu jam sessions which brought staff and guests together in a super relaxed manner. We loved it. Daily art classes, sound healing, breathwork, snorkelling, water sports, the spa (ohhhh the spaaaa!)… the options are honestly endless and our entire family had every box ticked on our list of wants and needs every single day. From the theatrical dining experience to the pop up cocktail making classes by the pool, we were just wowed on an ongoing basis. Then I should mention dining…. This is the most unique setup I’ve seen in the Maldives. It’s a hybrid between a la carte and street food style ordering. When you sit they present you with a menu detailing endless options and varying cuisines for appetisers and desserts. For main courses you browse the open kitchen style counters which have fresh menus daily. If you want something adjusted to your requirements it’s a pleasure for them to do it. After coming from a well established luxury property we were prepared to lower our expectations a little for the dining experience. We really didn’t need to. Even the children ate in a way more varied and adventurous manner than at home. Chef “zuzu” (I’m Sure this is not how you spell it!) has a fab team. The waiting staff were so lovely and kind to the kids. BK, Mifzql, Chippe & Samah all understood the assignment and delivered seamlessly. Bar… Bob and his team are building something incredible. Walk up to the bar and at times Dasun or Janu will make a suggestion based on how you approach them. Just brilliant and such fantastic guys to be around. We loved the hidden little swim up seats in the bar where we could order a drink and chat with them. Housekeeping team were so lovely and patient with our coming & going. They took amazing care of Our laundry as we kept extending the stay and on our final night they decorated the whole room with fairy lights and photos from our stay. Zakitte gave my husband and my 7 yr old son the absolute best guitar lessons and his gauge on pace and where to extend things was appreciated. He’s an extremely talented and generous performer. As head of the islands Vibe Department there’s never a dull moment with him around. At risk of this being the longest review ever left for a resort - I have to mention the spa… the Hoba Spa is the first of its kind and is truly a one of a kind environment. The treatments are all derived from Maldivian practices and it feels extremely special. Do not miss it. I can see a time where other resorts want to be able to offer their own Hoba Spa… Laura and her team have so much in store. We stayed in a Haruge Beach villa. From pictures I thought tnis would feel small. It was one of the best setup rooms we’ve stayed in. And the proximity to the beach and ocean was just perfect. I also Was shown the Veyoge Gallery room which is stunning. A gorgeous level of privacy with a genius plunge pool feature that leads to a little riverway that takes you to the Sobi Bar pool! I could say so much more. After 7 previous trips to the Maldives, I learned more about Maldivian culture within 12 hours of arriving at Oaga than all Previous visits combined. This is a fun, upbeat and encouraging resort with real roots in preserving and showcasing the local heritage. The bright colours feel entirely different once you’re immersed in the resort and the people there. I fell quite in love with them which was probably the biggest surprise of all! Can’t wait to see this absolute treasure go From strength to strength and I’m delighted we got to be among the first guests. Will definitely revisit as things become more established and I know they’re only scraping the surface right now with all that they have in mind for the Oaga journey. Thank you everyone in our new home from home for making us feel like family. We can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Wow! What can I even begin to say to describe the wonderful experience that is Oaga?! We were some of the first guests to come and stay here and it’s been so fun to see the kayaks, the sun loungers, the buggies all arrive and be unpacked and put into action. The decor of Oaga is definitely not to our preferred taste and if it hadn’t been for my wife’s suggestion and adamant that she wanted to come here - I would have scrolled by. So glad that we didn’t. This is my 3rd trip to the maldives and 4th resort… and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen or heard of. The staff here are all empowered to be their best selves and that creates a unique experience as a guest. Instead of their staff canteen being tucked away, guests are invited and encouraged to eat there. Staff integration with guests goes beyond providing a service. everything here tells a story and you feel it just walking to your room after dinner. The Raabaa area is fantastic and with the largest mural pool in the world you really feel immersed in the creativity that has fuelled the creation of this place. Food and drinks have been consistently fantastic and we love seeing the staff as we move around the island. Everyone feels like a friend. We have been partaking in the activities on offer and new things are starting every day. Our butler Ny has been a beam of sunshine. She has really taken the time to understand our 7 year old and his way of communicating. She’s gone above and beyond to ensure the experience is relaxed and enjoyable for all. The bar staff - Bob, Dasun and Shanaka are just outstanding! Every time we walk into the bar we are greeted like family members are they are keen to surprise and delight at every turn. If the bright colours deter you… look deeper. This place is all Maldivian heart. Family owned. Vision for giving back to the environment and the local community and everyone is so invested emotionally. So glad that that we came here and will definitely be coming back.
