The hotel is literally above the Namba station so it’s very convenient. Staff are professional and rooms are a good size. Beds are comfortable. However, I would not stay here again. The lobby is very dark. There is a church on the same floor next to the elevators which gives a very creepy feeling at night when it’s dark. The rooms are not totally clean…the desk had handprints and there was hair in the bathroom. Carpets in the hallway were also not clean. In general, the hotel is a bit outdated. There is no safe in the room and no laundry room in the hotel.

This hotel sits on top of the JR line, has a very large grocery just below it and has an access to the Namba walk which can lead you to Dotombori and other touristy spots. Everything is a good short to medium walk. The staff are cery helpful, considerate and respectful. I will always choose this on my next return.

Whilst I don't wholly disagree with the sentiments of some of the negative comments, I do feel some are a little harsh. Any hotel will look a little tired after barely a couple of years with the kind of traffic Monterey gets. For their price at £100 ish a night, I got what I expected; superb Japanese service [as usual], fabulous central location and a generously sized & clean room with a comfy bed with every amenity at hand. I loved the fabulous views across the city which the breakfast and dinner venues took full advantage of. Sadly my room was more inward facing and I would've preferred a room with more of that view, but I could see just enough of that fabulous night-scape. Breakfast buffet choice was extensive [and in my experience plentiful and not oversubscribed] and I was pleasantly surprised to be be encouraged to take a coffee back to my room if I wished. [Room coffee is always terrible wherever you stay!] Yes, maybe the carpet could do with a change, some of the bedroom furniture looks a little tired but for one or two nights it's perfectly fine. I found the staff in the 'French' restaurant to be especially attentive & friendly. The food fabulous too. After eating there two consecutive nights, the chef kindly changed up the set menu for me [without me asking] so I had something different on the second night and he subsequently visited me at my table, thanking me for my patronage and we had a pleasant brief chat. I can't single out Monterey for this as I've found the same at every Japanese hotel, but I do find it strange that with several in-house eateries hotels don't seem able to provide simple light snacks and beverages as you might find in hotels in other countries. It seems the Japanese way is full, set, multi-course menu dinners or nothing! Their trading hours tend to be much shorter too I've found. Overall though, no major complaints from me!

Best location! Next to OCAT, JR, Kintetsu line, subway, Namba walk, everything. Supermarket and drug store downstairs. The hotel itself is beautiful. Breakfast venue has stunning view of Osaka City, the food itself is exceptional. We stayed 3 nights. Rooms are spotless. Amenities refilled everyday. Definitely coming back.

The location of this hotel is not the most convenient one, as it needs a bit of walk from train station, as well as the attractions in Dotonbori (15 mins). The room is spacious, relative to the typical tiny ones in Japan. Surprisingly, there is no safe deposit box in the room. Cleanliness ok. Bed comfy. Staff ok. Price high. Value not that good. Overall, not particularly recommended while there're many other choices.

This is a very large hotel in a reasonable location. The rooms were just about OK. Breakfast was a complete shambles with huge queue's on both the ground flour and on the converted 3rd floor ballroom I would estimate this as a average restaurant not as special as it's portrait on their website If i went back I'd try a different hotel

Lovely lobby but the rooms don't match those standards at all. Our room was like an older Comfort Suite....definitely not a 4-star hotel and definitely wouldn't recommend. Also, a hotel for this price *should* have coffee available for purchase, but there's nothing. With three restaurants on site, it doesn't seem like it could be that hard to offer that amenity? Good water pressure in the shower. Also a good location. But a ho-hum experience for us.

I lived in Osaka for a period of time and this was my first time back in years. I selected this hotel bc the location is above the Namba train station. The hotel is on the 22nd floor (lobby) and the rooms up to 31st floor. There are plenty of elevators and large too! So if you have folks with you whom are handicapped or have trouble with stairs, rest assured this hotel has plenty of American sized elevators. The location is perfect for when it's raining and you stay underground (if you like) and you're connected to all of the trains. There is a Family Mart (convenience store) and Starbucks down below as well as a grocery store. Also below is easy access to Namba walk, which has eateries and shopping.  The store next door to the hotel (street level) is like a Target, everything you could need except medication. Short walk to Dotonburi. OCAT is the bldg next door to the hotel.  2 minute walk so perfect for getting to/from KIX on the airport bus. We took the shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka. Sent our luggage ahead of time via Yamoto transport. It arrived at 1PM the following day. We flew home from KIX. OCAT was right next door so we walked over and bought a bus ticket to KIX for ~ $12 USD/person. The hotel staff had a bus schedule for the departures and we caught the last one! The staff spoke some English, some better than others. The rooms were quite large for a Japanese room. Beds were comfy. Large vanity mirror to get ready. Fresh PJs laid out for us every day and 2 water bottles daily. One day we forgot to take the waters with us and when we returned, they left 2 more for us, so we had 4!  The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were full size bottles and also smelled lovely! The staff also helped us with mailing out a package. I met up with some friends and didn't have a chance to take the gifts with me (left them in the room) so I told my friend I'd mail them to her before I left Japan. My mom just took the items and address to the front desk and a nice gentlemen helped my mom.  So we didn't even need to go to a post office or get packaging material. My friend received her package 2 days later. We tried the breakfast buffet one time, and for 3500 Yen/person, it was okay. Nothing special for the price. We had better breakfasts on our trip. They had some western items and more Japanese items. They were all just OK and some of the items were luke warm instead of hot. Overall, I would stay at this hotel again bc of the location and OCAT.

Stayed for 2 nights at 2631. This might be the best hotel for me in japan, super strategic! Only 500m walking to shinsaibashi. Definitely will stay here again, they have JR and Metro Station (Namba) right at the side of the building, super convey!

After being in so many hotels in Japan we were so accustomed to their way of cleanliness and organization. We were just so surprised how a Japanese hotel could be so filthy and old. Towels didn’t look fresh, moquette was old and dirty. Luckily we old stayed a night.
