I stayed for one night at the Hotel Metropolitan - a great place for business or pleasure. Being located next to the station and the Midori shopping centre, location and convenience scores high, and the rooms although a little simple are comfortable. The shower and bathroom was very clean and modern. Excellent price and particularly during the goto campaign this makes for a nice spot to stay for a short trip.
Stayed for one night after an international overnight flight and then a train trip up from Tokyo. The hotel is run by JR East and it right next door to the Nagano Railway Station which is very convenient. The hotel is well presented, very clean and the staff are polite and very efficient. the rooms are reasonable size by Japanese standards( I had a deluxe King room). The room was very clean with a comfortable bed. There are vending machines on the floor and ice machine. I had breakfast the following morning in the ground floor cafe, which was buffet with a mixture of Japanese and Western foods. Breakfast while nothing sensational was good and the automatic coffee machine made a pretty good cappuccino. The hotel is in the centre of town so is convenient. A recommended hotel for the rail traveller.…
Comfortable hotel with mid-sized rooms. Breakfast is expensive if it’s not included, but has a very good selection including freshly cooked vegetables and saki. No onsen. There is direct access to the next door train station, handy for bitterly cold winters..
This is a hotel that offers a level of luxury and yet, booking early through Expedia and booking.com we were able to get queen rooms for two for about A$160 including breakfast. And the breakfast buffet is very good with both Western and Japanese selections. You can even have cold sake or ice cream! We used the hotel both on the way to and from the ski fields. It is adjacent to the train station and can be accessed internally from the station via the Midori shops. There are signs as you begin to exit the station. Don’t go out the East exit. Reception is open till all hours and we were able to check in at midnight having come via train from Narita airport. ( At this hour you can not access internally but exit the station and the hotel is only a few steps away.) The room is a reasonable size by Japanese standards. I was able to stand my ski bag up in the coat cupboard which was useful. They will also store your large bags overnight if you wish. The bed was comfortable and the room quiet. Check-out is not till midday which allows for a leisurely morning. On our return visit we ate dinner at the hotel; 25,800 yen/ about A$32 each for all we could eat including red and white wine. There was a good selection of meals and desserts including a chocolate fountain. Overall I can highly recommend this hotel for comfort, accessibility, standard of meals and efficient service. While in Nagano, take a walk to the Zenko-ji temple. …
This three to four star hotel is right next to the train station and that makes it extremely convenient for travellers. The shuttle buses to the various touristic sights that are relatively close by to Nagano ( eg. snow monkeys) also depart from the other side of the train station. So everything is really close by if you stay in this hotel. It is a relatively large hotel and very clean and well kept. We had a standard room facing the railway lines which was quite nice actually and not unsightly. A lot of restaurants close by too as well as a large supermarket right next to it. An excellent choice overall in terms of convenience and comfort.
