Our stay at Waya was very smooth and great fun, all we needed for a few days away in Sapporo. It's perfectly sized to feel comfortable. The self service breakfast and amenities options right at hand make it feel like a little home. On top of it we were kindly welcomed by Eve, who was very helpful and friendly, and of great advice for our evening out! Little curtains around the beds are always appreciated :)

Bed bugs crawling and biting a lot :( And when I told the staff they didn't care! Not all of the staff speaks english by the way. And the location is not that close to the city center or to a subway station.

I've been hostel hopping through all of Japan and honestly the level of the hostels is quite high here in my oppinion. The Waya hostel however has a feeling like it is a home. Staff is just the most amazing ever, in special the manager Keisuke, such a great guy. It feels like they are not just staff but they are your friends! So all in all this is the best hostel, go here!

I stayed here for one night and had a great experience. It's quite small so feels like you're staying with a family. If you stay here you can be sure there are new friends there waiting for you. It was fun to hang out with the staff and guests alike. Kei was great and really made me feel welcome and was willing to help me with whatever I needed.

I went by myself with very little idea what to do in Sapporo. All the staff spoke amazing English and were so helpful. They took a lot of time to give me advice about what to do and help me get around. The place itself was really nice and relaxed. I especially liked the table with the heater under! The location was good as well. I was able to walk to the centre of Sapporo pretty easily. Would really recommend this place to anyone going to Sapporo.

I'm an Italian student who travelled with her friends during the 2017/2018 winter break. We stayed in Sapporo for one week, and I must say that we found Waya hostel perfect for our needs and our standards. The structure is cozy and clean and it has all the facilities needed (a small kitchen, two big showers, a laundry corner, tables and a really nice separate room where to relax and keep warm under a KOTATSU! If you don't know what a kotatsu is, you've been missing something really soft and confortable in your life...just google it ;) ). We are 4 friends in their twenties: two of us stayed in an 8 bed female room, while the others stayed in a mixed 8 bed room. We were all satisfied with the rooms size and with our personal spaces. Every morning you can get free bread and jam, and the cafe on the ground floor offers events shuch as parties and movie nights (we joined a really nice movie night on December 24th!). The staff is really nice, kind and outgoing, so we really enjoyed speaking with the guys working there, and I think it was also an occasion to create a nice and informal connection between the customer and the owner. So guys, if you're looking for a really nice, cozy and welcoming place where to stay in Sapporo, Guest House Waya is the right choice!

Waya was my first stop on a 5-week trip through Japan, and in the end staying here was one of the highlights of my entire trip. So much so that I extended my stay here by an extra 5 nights. For me, what was most special about Waya was feeling part of a community. The hostel is relatively small, with maybe 20 or so dorm beds and a tiny two-table bar/cafe in the reception area. The staff are incredibly warm and inviting, and there are some local regulars who regularly turn up in the bar after work; so I ended up hanging out there almost every night. By the end of my stay, I had several valued acquaintances, and had gone out to bars and parties with staff, guests, and locals 4 or 5 nights. Anil, Kiho, Momo, Keisuke; all people I'm so glad to have gotten to know. I was especially grateful for this having been alone, and being a bit shy approaching new people. Aside from the people, the physical space is wonderful. The beds are large and separated from each other by wooden barriers; the most privacy I've had at any hostel. Everything is clean, which makes sense since you see the staff putting a lot of effort into cleaning every day. It's small, warm, tasteful, and high quality; and I think much of it was built by the staff. It's the kind of space that you feel happy just being in. The location is away from the city center, but not too far; about a 20 minute walk to the heart of the city, and 5-7 minutes from 2 different subway lines. It's a sleepier neighborhood, but within 3 blocks is the best sushi (also cheap!) I've ever had, very good soup curry, a nice cafe, and a renowned izakaya-type place. Anyway; I had a great long stay at Waya, and next trip I make to Japan I will be coming to Sapporo primarily to stay here again (though the city itself is also a big draw). If you want to meet new people on your trip, stay here!

My second time at Waya was again a fantastic experience. Since my first time there in 2015 they have expended by adding a bar downstairs and more rooms in the back of it. The bar is not only good for having a variety of drinks and some food, but also a perfect place to meet fellow travelers as well as locals that come often. Regular events in the bar also help with meeting people. The staff is always helpful and fun to talk to at any time. The location is also really good, close two two subway lines, airport bus stops not far away at the main street and many atractions are in walking distance too. Different restaurances and a supermarket are also in close walking distance. The beds are big compared to other hostels and comfortable too. The dorm room itself are also spacious with more than enough space to wak around in even with people's luggage laying around. Other facilities are equaly good. Two roomy showers, washer and dryer, a sitting area in the in the main room as well as a commen room to relax in, among other things. The commen room also has a kotatsu, which is fantastic during the winter to just relax under and warm up after a day out in the cold. All in all it's the perfect place to stay at and I will definitely return there any time I visit Sapporo as well as recommend it to anyone else who does.
