The 'Bestway Hotel' is located in downtown Kunming just a 2-minute walk away from the 'Jiaosanqiao' subway station. It is one of those Chinese hotels built in the early 1990s when China first experienced a real economic boom. Unfortunately little seems to have been done in the hotel in the 25 years since then and the rooms are quite dated and in need of a renovation. This is particularly evident with the furniture, the bathroom and the carpet. At least the WiFi speed was quite decent and the rooms were clean. Furthermore none of the staff seems to speak so much as a single word of English - so if you can't speak Mandarin it pays to have a language app on your phone.
The location is very good . It is not far from the downtown and at the same moment not far also from the north modern life. It is very close to the subway station. The room is nice with adequate facilities. WiFi is only in the room . The staff speaks no english. But they are so friendly. The food is good for a local chinese citizen.
Hotel has a free shuttle. Ask at one of the information booths and the driver will come get you (stops outside near the taxi rank.) Room furnishings are modern. Breakfast was a mess. Food on the floor; tables cluttered with previous diners' dishes. At night I had a foot massage and it was pretty good. Price high, as would be expected. Not sure how much English is available here. Every time I approached staff to ask a question they did that little shy huddle thing, hoping to somehow become invisible and escape the embarrassment of having to interact with a foreigner. They seemed very relieved that I spoke Chinese. Staying here isn't cheap. My room was about 500 Yuan. But it's an option if you have a connecting flight the next morning and don't have time to go to central Kunming. Don't expect an international hotel chain level of service.…
Large hotel, comfortable beds, not particularly well cleaned rooms, breakfast included in rate but no western offering except egg station (fried eggs, omelette) when busy not enough tables OK location only 10 min walk to main shopping square etc easy for transport to western hills Reception staff speak almost no English and cannot be bothered to help westerners simple reply I dont speak English and move on to a Chinese client!. There are better places to be found in Kunming
We took a double room for 380 Yuan, the twin beds were very comfortable and HBO film channel was a bonus. Chinese style breakfast was included in the price but no coffee or much concession to western tastes. The staff were very friendly but spoke almost no english. It's a big hotel without much charm, but good value for money.
