Nov 15, 2013. Based on a short overnight stay, no opinion on location. The lobby areas are kept up and suggest a 4 star plus past, the rooms not so much. Our room was quiet, and I assume they provide good value (room was booked as part of all inclusive package - no specific charge). A few minor things didn't work, few amenities provided, but we did get a good night's sleep. A 3 star room at best. Food service/availability after 9:00 PM is zero. There is a small roadside restaurant half a block away on the main road that is open.
Recently stayed at the Golden Dragon for 2 nights. I previously stayed at this hotel 2 years earlier. At that time the swimming pool was empty and again, 2 years later the pool was still empty. There are also some construction going on that impacts on the driveway of the property however this was a minnor issue and noise was never a factor. The rooms are clean, the staff are lovely however English is very very limited. The other thing to note is that if your room is generally above the 5th floor and you wish to use wfi, you will need to leave a 300 RMB deposit at the desk to get a router box. This is then refunded to you when you check out. I was told that if you're room is below the 5th floor this box was not required, wifi could be easily accessed. The breakfast bufeft was fine, catered towards the Asian market however there were still 'western' style options available. This hotel is ok, if it's a short stop then it would be fine.…
Kunming is a lovely city. The hotel is well located with bus--and soon to be subway-stops at the front door. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Food is OK, breakfast buffet is a good way to start your day. The front desk staff has limited English but will somehow manage to get you what you need. If you take a taxi some place, they write the destination in Chinese for the driver. This was very effective and efficient. I'd stay here again without a bout. A great value.
This hotel is OLD, it seems to have been allowed to run down. While the rooms were as clean as they could be, the carpets were showing need of replacement, and were almost threadbare in places, the tapware in the bathroom was corroded, there were watermarks on the bathtub, and worst of all half the rooms in the hotel overlook a construction site, which is very noisy until midnight. You can't get to sleep if you have one of these rooms. This has apparently been a problem for 2 years!. The staff have problems understanding english. The dining room dishes are probably 50% or more halal, so very limited range of food.
Please do not use this hotel, especially if you are a non-smoking female. The online images of this hotel are many years old, it is actually badly run down in a state of disrepair. The beautiful pools in the advertising are cracked and empty. The foyer staff will not communicate with a female and have no concept of a non-smoking room. After the first night I asked my tour company to move me to another hotel, however they had their local agents negotiate a non-smoking floor. I could not wait to leave. it spoilt my final night in China.
