Pros: cheap private room, the staff was friendly and helpful. My room was located that I could hear the river, I found that peaceful for sleeping. The location is central for walking to town, the park, restaurants, and shops. I enjoyed exploring the town. Cons: although you have access to the kitchen, it wasn't something I was comfortable using. I did use the microwave for heating tea water but that was it. No refrigerators in the rooms. Overall, the room was what I expected when I booked. The linens were clean and the bed was comfortable, the shower had hot water. For the price you pay, this met my expectations.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this property. We had very low expectations, but it was quite nice and comfortable. We brought our own bed cloth and towels. I will recomend this property for LOCALS rather than other country tourists. We had good meals cooked in the shared kitchen and all other guest were extremly nice and respectful of the Covid-19 precautions.

Pros: cheap private rooms, friendly staff and good location in the town. Also a supermarket nearby. Cons: wifi is not that good in the room, the kitchen wasn't clean at all. It didn't seem that anyone was cleaning it. The supermarket was next to our room and it was loud in the night, which was ok when the window was closed. The staff speaks little english. Everything is old and used also the blankets. No real community If you want a cheap private room go there.

Taken there by our tour guide. Tucan Tours booked it. We had thought we had paid for hotels but cheap and cheerful Tucan had booked us into this dirty cheap hostel. Prices are $20 per night and even that is a rip off. Rooms where dirty. Bedding was ancient and suspicious. Kitchen was so awful i took pictures to seek a refund. Over half the tour group revolted and refused to stay there and made Tucan put us in a proper hotel. Front of the hostel faces the rear of a large supermarket. Waterworks outside in the street so they had no water for the toilets and showers. Our room was dingy with only a small window. No view. No tea and coffee making facilities. No fridge. And no air conditioning. Only a tiny fan. Avoid. We refused to stay there.

Response from MIKEPS21, Owner at Hostal Boquete
Responded 3 Apr 2017
I understand the importance of a first impression and I utilize comments and complaints to improve on things at the hostel, but only when the complaints are genuine. The fact you believed you were coming to a hotel is also a strike against your expectations. I understand about the construction in front and lack of water for a short time at the time of your arrival and apologize, but that is out of our control and your tour guide was informed 3 days prior to your arrival. Construction I will also add that is occurring in the whole town, not just in front of the hostel. I am very skeptical about your comments concerning the other things when before stepping in the lobby hearing a person in your group say "I don't want to stay here". An example of the reason I am skeptical is your complaint of the kitchen. If you had stepped foot in the kitchen you would have seen that it is a fully equipped kitchen with Stove, microwave, coffee machine, hot water dispenser and large REFRIGRATOR. I don't understand how you could have missed it. The rest of your group that stayed found it quite enjoyable and had made a great dinner on their last night.

Pro's: The name says it all. It's an Hostel and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Good location close to centre of town and a fast flowing mountain stream at the back of the Hostel. Very friendly, helpful staff inspite of limited English speaking ability. Con's: Not many. It's an unpretentious Hostel. Construction work at the back made the place look dirty and filthy.

As a hostal get the work done, it does have a nice location. Rooms are overall good, small tv, cable, Wi-Fi, small fan(which you probably wont use), hot water and a nice balcony. Recommended for people with a budget who only need a place to stay.

I have never done a review before, but I find them very helpful, so here goes... I stayed in room 7 for six nights in April. I would definitely stay here again. My room had a private balcony over looking the river, The location can't be beat - right next to the biggest grocery store in town and one block from the center of town. Several people on here mention issues with the temperature of the shower- I did not have any problem - it was easy to get it to the temperature I like. My room was clean and comfortable - keep in mind, this is a hostal, not a fancy resort and you won't be disappointed. The reception staff don't speak fluent English, but they know the basics, and the owner (from the U.S.) is often in the lobby to help. He mentioned that he is slowly upgrading the hostal, one room at a time.

The location for this Hostal is great but that is about all that is good about it. I was with a group and we had five rooms. All were dirty it looked like all they had done in the last month was change the sheets. The reception closed at nine every night but we were not told this. The rooms were overcrowded with beds three in each room which left no space for luggage. Would definitely not recommend.

liked the place - very central in boquete; staff was helpful, the room was nice and clean Boquete overall didn't excite me though: it is a nice village with amazing coffee and beautoful nature BUT there's retierees from northern america everywhere you look! I have the strong fear these snowbirds will take away the last bit of charme - already whole hills are being sold for more "gated communities". Authentically panameño is different!

Although the staff doesnt speak much english, which was surprising, everybody were really helpful! We had everything we needed. The place is very quiet and in a very good place. Close to everything. We just happened to come in a time that for one night somebody had a huge party across the river, so that night we didnt get much sleep. We had a room with private balcony (you can hear noice from the reception early in the morning). My mom and sister had a room with shared balcony and thats where we spent most of our evening since there were enough comfy chairs and a nice view over the river. All in all a very nice stay!
