Greetings from Kokol Haven Resort! Kokol Haven Resort is located on top of Kokol hill at one of the Crocker Range starting point and the Resort itself is 2,700 feet above sea level. You can enjoy the same mountain ambient with the thick blanket of mist cloaked around the hills, thus we are known as the Second Kundasang. Furthermore, the Resort is situated 25km (about 40mins to 1 hours drive) from the central city of Kota Kinabalu, a perfect getaway from the hustle & bustle of the city. Besides the location, visitors may also enjoy spectacular sunrise scenery over the majestic Mount of Kinabalu as well as KK's gorgeous sunsets over KK city in the evenings. The Resort area stretch about 40acres, comprising a multi-purpose court, a mini outdoor gym, herbal garden, strawberry farm, and of course plentiful varieties of fruit tree and jungle trekking. The healthy growing flora & fauna, makes us a home to many beautiful creature especially for birds and butterflies. It is the Resort effort to create a "Haven" to our valued guest, so they may experience tranquility and foremost, to unite with the nature. Lastly, the Resort Hotel provides 32 rooms inclusive one Honeymoon Suite and a VIP Suite.

We drove here to visit and they charged us RM10 per person and said we could use to redeem drinks. We arrived mid morning and they informed that they had no food available as they were preparing for lunch buffet. So we ordered 1 tea and 1 iced coffee where we used our 2 tickets and topped up RM2.

There were many cats and the people in the other table (who had food) kept chasing the cats away.

This place had many gaudy fixtures… presumably for tacky photos. But we preferred natural views.

It was nothing special.

Nice place for a staycation. Lovely view from the hilltop and cool breeze.
Instead of traveling to Kundasang for fresh air consider this lovely place which is not far from the capital.
Beautiful scenery and magical for photoshoots! Rooms package comes with dinner instead of breakfast.

Nice Highland get away a mere 30 to 40 mins from KK City centre. Resort has awesome City and Mountain (incl. Mt Kinabalu if skies are clear) views. Rooms and F&B menu are pretty basic. There is no swimming pool or spa. Resort has adequate facilities for small to medium sized events. Resort is fine for couples or those hankering for a cool, clean and quiet place to escape to.

Worthy a visit only for the view of Kota Kinabalu bay from the top of the hill.
You need to pay 10 rm per person just to step in, even if you will eat in their overpriced restaurant.
Food was less then average and my "Nasi Sinalau Ayam" was tasteless and very poorly presented (just rice and chicken with no accompaniments).
If you call yourself a Resort and you want to keep a high standard, on the same line with the prices that you charge, I expect at least to eat well.
Same dish would have cost me 4 time less in a local cafe in Tamparuli and with much more taste.
40 rm for the dish in the picture attached, is a robbery.

The place is being continually improved and mah Jong table booths are being built. The multi level partying space works very well. The views to KK and mountain are spectacular and the catering is good. Staff excellent. Can recommend for a chill out stay.

I was a bit shock when i was chased away by the staffs (even i was still outside the area haven't reach the resort compound yet) saying they are closed already, and that time it was around 18:20 p.m. That never happened to me in my entire life!! I wasn't check-in to the hotel, it's just for evening dinner with my family for my boy's birthday dinner (which is only for 4 of us). I wasn't sure what's happening, what event was on during that time, even if it's involve a special VVIP guest or 'Datuk', but it was totally absurd and crazy to just CLOSED the compound for your 'ordinary' guests (well we also gonna pay, not only Datuk is paying), that was totally not professional at all and I was really really and really disappointed with it, especially with my kids around and we were been chased away from the resort. I gave them 5-stars review last year, but apparently it does change a LOT for a JUST short time. Anyway, I would never go this place again. Sadly.

We just recently visited Kokol Haven resort for 2 nights stay.

1. The resort needs to notify guests to bring your own transport or to plan your transport as they do not provide ANY transportation services. For a resort that is nice and up in the hills, you should probably cater transport services or at least have the decency to notify guests. They did not even have any taxi numbers they could call. Uber or grab is not available around the area. Luckily for us, the receptionist got her uncle to bring us down to Kota Kinabalu city for 50MYR. Uber and Grab costs around 20MYR to go up to Kokol.

2. The food was atrocious. Our breakfast was tasteless and not much of a breakfast (can't expect much for a free breakfast). As for dinner, if you're staying in, you pretty much don't have a choice but to eat at their restaurant. Our bill came up to 70MYR with just special fried rice and pepperoni pizza which tasted like cardboard and was obviously frozen. We didn't finish it.

3. There are pretty much no activities at all (besides trekking and paragliding which we need to book early and have to find out ourselves). We wanted to cancel our extended night but they say it was too late so we decided to go down to KK city in the afternoon and came back midnight instead with uber (God bless that guy's soul).

4. Service was non existent. We were hungry in the afternoon, but they said the kitchen is closed for a private function and will open only at 730pm. And this was around 3pm. Luckily we brought some maggi cup noodles as we are kind of stranded there without any transport! It's mentioned that breakfast starts at 7am, however when we came down at 730am they were still unprepared. The staff also lack knowledge on food and don't know how to make suggestions.

Positives? The place has a view.

Suggestions? Have some activities, BBQ nights would be good for a start, cycling around the hills or even herb classes in your garden. Please please please get a van to charter guests! You're up in a hill and to feel like you can't help yourself doing nothing but gazing at the view is pointless. Also try get a good chef. It's really not that hard to please guests with such nice property but with the kind of service and mediocre food, I'd probably stay down in KK city.

Stayed one night after reading about the great scenery and views from this place.

There is no booking system so I had to transfer fund for the booking which was inconvenient. The room rate are quite steep.

The sunset and night view of Kota Kinabalu was breathtaking....The view of Mount Kinabalu on a clear morning with blue sky was even more amazing !

Unfortunately I can't say the same for the services provided by the hotel.

There is no room service here, everything was cash first. The staff here really could do with some hotel training...

Its very windy here and the doors and windows were not built air-tight so the entire night we could here the wind blowing through the small gaps. The shower room is good though...

Menu in the restaurant are limited but food wasn't bad...

Check out took more than 15 minutes even though there was absolutely nothing that we could take from the room as there was no mini bar, that really made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome...

Oh yeah, there is no WIFI....

Stayed here for one night in August. Was extremely surprised at the quality of the accommodation - very luxurious room with amazing views of Kota Kinabalu.( ours was a corner room)
Extremely clean rooms with 2 balconies, very comfortable bed & linens.
Staff were wonderful, friendly & very helpful.
Would have liked to stay here longer!

The Resort is nice, not heavily promoted yet and some area is in progress. But if you are looking for a fantastic view of Kota Kinabalu City, this is the place. While enjoying the view of sunset , why not try their Pizza + Cakes!!! yummy..... really recommended :)

*about 1 Hour drive from KK City
*Can do this as Half day tour

Hi, are they still allowing outsiders in, to purchase food and drink and enjoy the sunset view?

Hi yes . outsiders are allowed in with a RM10 per pax entry fee which you can redeem with drinks order I understand they need to charge lest many ppl will take advantage of its vintage views and crowd the place. We were lucky on our visit -although the sig says rm10 per pax but no one was manning the guard hut

I’m not sure about Taxi fares. I’m guessing $80 - $100 ringgit? It’s about a 40-50 min drive from the airport.
