As for the hotel itself, the rooms are clean and modern so don’t be put off by the corridors to them. I’m pretty sure I booked a queen/king bed rather than the two singles I got but I was there for one night so wasn’t going to move. The pool area on the roof is quite nice (although the bar there is closed since covid) but there is nowhere to sit and if just one family with kids is there it’s not really worth staying around other than just to dip. I didn’t get to sample the breakfast as my flight (at 8.30am so not ridiculously early) meant I had to leave before it commenced. All in all, if you need a hotel for one night to make a connection next morning, this place will certainly do the trick.
To add to my frustration, the receptionist appeared somewhat disengaged and nonchalantly dismissed the closure of the bar, failing to provide proper details or alternatives. However, I stumbled upon a hidden gem called The Other Side, a secret bar cleverly concealed behind a faux wall with an old telephone attached. I must admit, it turned out to be an awesome discovery, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who encounters a similar situation or shares the same expectations as I did.
Upon returning from The Other Side, I decided to order some food for delivery. To my surprise, I found the order just sitting on a tray at the reception area, while the manager was fast asleep in the restaurant. It was an odd yet somewhat amusing experience that certainly added to the unique nature of my stay.
Despite these unexpected hiccups, I must commend the hotel for providing a spacious and comfortable room. It served as a welcome retreat, allowing me to relax and rejuvenate after a long day of exploration.
In conclusion, while the closure of the poolside bar was a disappointment, stumbling upon The Other Side provided a memorable alternative. The unusual encounter with the sleeping manager added a touch of quirkiness to my stay. Ultimately, the spacious and comfortable room offered solace and comfort, compensating for the unexpected shortcomings.
Once we had checked in we made our way to the swimming pool only to find there was a swimming lesson with around 30 school aged children going on. We went to the reception to inquire about this and the receptionist didn’t really understand our queries so we asked to speak to a manager. The manager (female, short hair) was then extremely rude! She practically shouted “what do you want me to do kick them all out?” We found this extremely unprofessional and the worst customer service we’ve ever experienced. She then told me to wait at reception and she would be back to finish speaking to me. She never returned! I waited for around 15 minutes and then the poor receptionist told me she wasn’t coming back! I was shocked at this terrible terrible customer service as I had not experienced anything like this in Borneo!
I would definitely not recommend this hotel due to the manager and the lack of customer service!
For under £50 for the night and being so close to the airport, represented value. Probably not the location for sightseeing, just airport.
This is the second review I have written about this stay at this hotel. TripAdvisor, for whatever reason, have chosen not to publish. Maybe this time. Wish I had taken some photographic evidence.
Food options aren’t great - there’s one restaurant in the hotel. However, there’s a few food options just outside the hotel - including a KFC.
Rooms are big and clean - got upgraded to a suite which was nice! Bathroom was clean and facilities are good - there’s apparently a pool as well.
"Download the Grab app before leaving home. It’s an excellent Uber type service that you can use with free airport wifi."Read full review
