Room wifi stopped intermittenly every 15 minutes, makes our work online very frustrating. The noises from the corridors could be heard inside our rooms !
Hotel seems full house occupancy as the Cafe for breakfast is very busy with diners, seatings are full and insufficient service staff as empty tables are still dirty and not set up as we were ushered in.
Pros: a nice spacious room (upgraded as individual booking) Location is good (just across Oceanus mall and seafood eateries) , some rooms facing ocean. Liked pool, sauna (dry and mist), people are nice. Lobby offers a complementary drink. (Garamansi?)
For improvement: WiFi weak and if you are one bedroom suit, you can’t be connected in a bedroom. Pool closes at 7:00 - very early and a full of kids. Breakfast can be improved.
So it is good hotel for groups and families, not so business travelers. I will try Marriott (across the street) or Le meridian next time!
The hotel is centrally located. There are many amenities within walking distance of the hotel which makes 'location' a good selling point. There are markets, various eateries, bars and a couple of shopping malls.
Check-in was quick however we were not happy with the first two rooms we were allocated. The first had an overpowering smell of air freshener that smelled as though it had been sprayed to possibly mask smoking. The second room had not been hoovered as there were bits on the floor.
The hotel itself feels as though it is quite old and the rooms could do with refurbishment, however the third room we checked into was clean and functional.
The hotel has in onsite shop which was well stocked and good value from other experiences.
The cakes that are sold downstairs are amazing, we took cakes back to our room on a couple of occasions.
We did not use the tour service in the hotel that was selling trips. We saved a lot of money by using the grab app to independently travel to various attractions.
We went on the North Borneo rail journey during our stay which was very good. Again I would encourage you to book this independently to save money by contacting North Borneo rail direct, we paid £66 each some tour companies were advertising this trip at £140 !
We did not use the pool area, but we did take a look at it. It is quite small and there are limited sun beds. I would say that if you are looking to book a hotel with a nice pool then this hotel might not be the hotel for you.
The best feature we found of this hotel was the club room, which was well worth the extra money per night. This was without doubt the best club room I have used in Malaysia after using various club rooms in KL. The staff within the club room were very attentive, the cocktails were amazing and the food very good also. You get a really good view of the sunset across Kota Kinbalu from the club room terrace.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again based on the location and excellent club room.
Housekeeper didn't clean the toilet bowl properly and still left off with previous guests' urine stain.
The bed linen and pillow case come with some funny smell so I didn't sleep well at night. (now I'm praying hard that they are actually clean)
The lights in my room actually flicker. Reminds me of those horror movies.
Carpets are not exactly clean and stainless. So I had to live with it.
Breakfast place was kind of.... unpleasant. The cafeteria could be better maintained and maybe cleanliness and ventilation is another thing that the hotel should look into.
Conclusion: hotel needs to be better maintained.
One of the hotel's standout features is its convenient location, with a short walking distance to the vibrant promenade filled with an array of restaurants and bars. This proximity allowed me to easily explore and indulge in the local dining and entertainment options, adding to the overall enjoyment of my stay. Additionally, the hotel boasts a great pool, providing a refreshing oasis for relaxation.
The breakfast buffet offered by the hotel was more than satisfactory, presenting a substantial spread of delicious options to kickstart the day. The variety and quality of the offerings were impressive and left me feeling satisfied and energised.
I highly recommend this beachfront hotel. While its lobby may not initially catch your eye, the fantastic rooms, combined with its convenient location, great pool, and substantial breakfast buffet, create an exceptional experience. It is the perfect choice for those seeking comfort, convenience, and a memorable stay by the beach.
We suggest the following need attention
1. More seating in the huge glamorous foyer. I counted a maximum of 8 seats in total
2. Less red tape when we wanted to borrow 2 towels to take to the hot springs. Not only were we required to sign a form in triplicate the towels were faded frayed & aged
3. Chang breakfast offerings daily though lots of variety of dishes
4. Hospitality Staff need to be more customer focussed rather than standing around chatting to each notable at noodle station
5. Clean Mould around shower recess
6. Remove Paint residue on carpet in rooms
7. Renew old shabby carpets in corridor
There are always tours or groups at a hotel, so they are mostly busy, so don't expect great hospitality.
Upon arrival, we were greeted and welcomed, we then strolled our way to the front office to check in and enquired about the spa that they had. The lady that attended us told us that the spa closed down after the MCO.. we then asked if they had a bath, but unfortunately only executive rooms had baths and we didn't book that expecting the spa to be available.
We wanted to upgrade the room but the lady told us we could only do it through the Agoda app that we used to book the room. We weren't able to do so because we were already checked in.
Long story short, we were then assisted shortly by an amazing manager named JOEY, upon knowing our situation, he immediately adressed the situation and upgraded us to a suite room.. this is a sheer example of 5 star hospitality given by a man with a kind heart. Serving with kindness passion and showing what it truly means to be a hotelier in a 5 star environment. He was patient listening to our situation and quick to find a solution to solve it without further questions.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank him personally through this platform for giving us a wonderful end to our KK adventure..
Thank you Mr Joey Dennis (FO Manager)
