The hotel is very well located for Jesselton Pier which is the departure point for boat and diving trips. It is also very good for restaurants in the area.

Our room was smart, clean and comportable but we were not very impressed with the style of bathroom which had a toilet directly off the bedroom with a part door - not very private.

The pool on the roof is excellent with a great view of the bay. Unfortunately our time there was ruined by loud intrusive music - totally unnecessary.

Went in March 2020. We booked 2 superior king rooms.

Disclaimer, I'm used to staying at budget hotels/hostels

Pros
Location was perfect, small 'supermarket' within walking distance, jetty/suria Sabah/jesselton point all walkable.

Bed was comfy, room spacious
Pool was excellent with an amazing view and chilled rooftop bar.

Cons
1. Parking was a nightmare. They offer free multilevel(elevator) carpark at the back of the hotel, the system kept on crashing and it took us more than 20minutes to get our car(twice), missed the sunset due to this.

2. Hot water was non existent on the first day, had to wait more than 10 minutes leaving the water on to even get lukewarm water. Complained to the front desk, they said, it is normal. Okay great.

3. Toilet design very weird, I imagine it would be difficult for a large sized person to use the toilet bowl comfortably.

4. Not enough lighting in the room(seriously need to add more lights), very dark even in the morning as the 'view' was the opposite room

5. This was the most unacceptable part. The RMO was implemented on the 18th of March, we had a room reserved and paid for on the 21st of March 2020. Even up to the 19th, we were not informed via email or phone, and we had to call them. Mercure hotel just told us, "Oh we are not accepting check in, and your check in is cancelled". They could have at least called/emailed to let us know. Was very disappointed and was almost stranded at the last minute due to this.

Stayed here for one night before Malaysia Day. There weren’t that many guests but I think they placed most of their guests on one floor as I heard doors being slammed from inside the room.

The queen sized room was cozy but the placement of the toilet was weird as it was separated from the shower and it’s not totally enclosed. If you’re by yourself, it’s fine but totally embarrassing if you’re with friends as they can hear everything.

I’d have to say that the best service came from the manager and room service personnel at the rooftop bar. My friend and I bought a bottle of wine but forgot to buy a wine opener...I called room service and a really nice fellow said he would bring the bottle upstairs to remove the cork. After some time, we heard the doorbell and found out that the bar manager was at the door to personally remove the cork and they also lent some wineglasses for us to use. So kind of them!

Loved the location of the hotel as it’s nearby Suria and some decent shops.

Compared to the other Mercure I have stayed at previously, this Mercure is underwhelming and probably worse off than an Ibis.

The hotel was old but in a central location. Do note that there is no hotel parking and the parking outside the hotel was public parking which is always full.

While the 1 bedroom suite I booked was for 2 adults and 1 kiddo, only 2 towels were provided throughout my 2 nites stay. The bottles of body wash and shampoo were also empty and it appeared that housekeeeping staff don’t bother to check or refill them.

The Accor group has changed from bottled water to filtered water tap but gauging from the quality of this hotel, we cannot help but wondered when was the filter last changed.

Breakfast was short of variety whereby they don’t even have hash brown which was rather unusual in Asia hotels.

Mercure's location is extremely convenient - a short walk from Jesselton Point jetty, Jesselton Duty Free mall and Suria Sabah mall. Gaya Street is less than 10 minutes walk away too. The room is comfortable, but the bathroom is quite old. Shower leaks through the gap in the glass door.
Soundproofing between rooms is not good - could hear the room next door talking at night.
Breakfast spread is OK, a mixture of Asian and Western options. Aircon at the breakfast area was not working,so they put fans.
Rooftop pool is small but has a nice view. Rooftop bar... Is quite dead. You can enjoy a tea for RM10 with the view of Jesselton Pier, but they need to improve the decor.
Driveway has no roof, so you will get soaked if it's raining. Staff are friendly.

We booked two rooms but only one was available at check-in. The staff Zul informed us that they will call us when the other room was ready but we did not receive any calls even after dinner! The staff at check-in lacked passion in their jobs. You could tell from the way they answered your questions. As for the rooms, our room #1220 faced the wall so the room was in darkness most of the day with no natural light. The water in the standing shower took a long time to go down so the next person taking the shower had to step in a puddle of water. The housekeeping staff actually did not bother to put an extra roll of toilet paper by the side when our existing roll could not last us through the night. I think the only person worth commendating was the doorman (i didn't get his name) who bothered to open every door of any cars at the hotel entrance and not expecting a tip.

Our family of 5 recently stayed at the Mercure for 3 nights on our recent trip to Sabah.
Our stay was nice and comfortable, we would certainly recommend this hotel.
We had a family suite with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The suite included a kitchen, dining , and living area. Great views from the glass doors in the living room.
The rooftop pool was nice, with great views.
Breakfast was good, with a variety of Asian and Western choices, and made to order eggs.
The hotel is located in the northern part of KK, close to Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal. Suria Sabah Mall is a short walk behind the hotel. There is a good supermarket (Tong Hing) around the corner.
There are many places to eat withing walking distance. Places we tried and liked nearby were Peppermint (Vietmamese), Pasta Pasta (choose your pasta and homemade sauces), Fook Yuen (Rice, noodles, Dim Sum, soup).
For ice cream fans, there are some nice ice cream places at the basement level of Suria Sabah mall. Plenty of restaurants in the mall as well.
We had a rental car. The hotel does not have parking, but it wasn't too much of a problem. The street parking in front of the hotel is run by the city from 8am-5pm on weekdays For parking during those hours, we bought parking coupons at the hotel. It was only MYR 1.10 for every 2 hours. Parking at other hours is free. Beware that coupons bought at the hotel cannot be used for parking in other areas.

A go to hotel especially for those on business and work trips. Flexible check-in times are available upon request and location is away from the traffic and noisy city centre. Close to Jesselton point, gaya street and suria sabah mall, the hotel offers a stunning rooftop view of the KK skyline and has a lovely infinity pool. Wifi access is good throughout the day and cleanliness too. The friendly and attentive staff make the stay a great experience and you just wanna return again!

The location is okay, downtown of Kota Kinabalu is just small, lot’s hotels are nearby. The price is very good, compared to size of the room. Yet, the sound proof is very very very bad. I can hear people talking from the aisle, door shutting from other rooms. Especially the room next to me, I can hear very very clearly on every word they said, the sound of them taking shower, flushing toilets, etc.
The breakfast is okay, yet the venue is a bit chaotic. No one at the reception when I walked in and I can’t find any staff nearby, until I finally find a staff cleaning the table on the other side of the restaurant. The plates and cutlery don’t seem very clean.
The staff at the bar was very nice though.

The apartment suite is very very spacious! There are 4 lifts working up and down 25 floors which is very convenient and time savvy.

The rooftop restaurant and pool is a perfect place to watch KK beautiful sunset.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay! Thank you Mercure!

We stayed in a one bedroom suite which was plenty of room for us and our 10 year old. We had a king size bed which was just right. You can always request for a extra rollaway bed. Have a pleasant stay!
